If I'm not mistaken he has been named as a joint-winner of the Morrish Medal

Like Smedts, if we don't go for a KPF, he could be the versatile defender/mid that we go for.

Might be a bit early for him though.

Good kick, without being "elite".

Goes in hard.

Needs a haircut.

Elite disposal and decision making apparently. Its still early and I'm no expert but I'd be happy with this kid or Tom Lynch for pick 12 at the minute. I think they could both be considered around that pick by draft time.

He was best on ground in the 1st week of TAC cup finals and has played well since the championships.

I like the look of him.

Looks like an attacking medium defender/flanker. How's he do man on man stopping an opponent?

How can there be a second "Tom Lynch" in the league...

Aussies not a very imaginative bunch. Then again I guess Steele Sidebottom isn't bad.

Posted

He barely had any chasing or tackling in his highlights. I'm not bagging him but shouldn't some of that stuff be on there if he was playing on a back flank?

Nathan Brown,,, Jackson Trengove?

Dyson Heppell should be snapped up before 12, from what i have heard of him. If he does slip through then it could be a great get considering this years Draft.

Worth some serious thought.

Posted

He does look good but, as touched on by DG, I'm not sure of his accountability.

I've no question of his appetite for the contest and he seems a competent tackler.

I imagine accountability and the defensive side is something that is drilled in by the coaches once they get drafted.

Not exactly sure he'll be gone by 12 though. I see him as being around pick 12-18 really.

Posted

Good prospect most likely will head to GC.

Posted

I saw Heppell at Visy Park in the TAC Cup Under 18 finals yesterday and he was the star of the day. Late last month Paul Daffey put out his list of the 25 best draft prospects and left this bloke out which is crazy because, unless there's something the rest of us don't know about, he'll most likely go between # 4 and # 6 on what I saw.

He was Vic Country's MVP in the Under 18 Championships and shared this year's Morrish Medal so he's no slouch and I see the media's picked up on him at last too - Heppell shaping as high draft pick.

No relation to Martin I take it. Probably a good thing.

Adam, I hope you're not having a go at Martin Heppell after who the Demonland/Demonology best on ground award is named when the team plays against Saintsational?

As a member of the team who almost gave life and limb for the D/D's it's almost a sacriledge to speak of Marty in any other tones than hushed reverence. His record speaks for itself.

article in the sun today says he may be around at 12 aloing with Lynch... decissions decissions...

Neither will be around at pick 12. Jay Clark is writing nonsense.

Posted

Groin doubts?

"Heppell, who was initially thought to go as high as pick five to Brisbane, could slip as far as No. 12 to Melbourne in what could be a coup for the Dees."

"Melbourne is tipped to happily benefit from Heppell's sudden slide as the Gippsland star was arguably the best-performed player through the second half of the TAC Cup season."

This is all too much.

I wont believe either of Heppell or Lynch are available until I see it.

Shame, cos Jacobs would be really really nice too.

No way will he last til 33.

Posted

Quayle doesn't have either of Jacobs or Darling in her phantom top 25...

Surely not...

Emma and Jay Clark seem to have heard the same information from sources tonight. Bit of banter between the two on twitter at an AFL industry night. Their phantom drafts are very similar. Prior to the last few days no one had Prestia in the top 20 because of his height, now no-one has him below 11! Seems Essendon are split on Atley and Prestia.

We could actually have to choose between Heppell, Atley and Darling (never mind Jacobs) at pick 12. That's ludicrous.

Posted

There seems to be a lot of posturing going on between clubs in the lead up to the draft. Some of it is there to put others off the scent. Don't think Heppell is going to be available for us at 12.

When I said "surely not" I was vaguely trying to allude to the fact that...

Surely, those 2 players, if they last til past 25... Surely they can't last another 8 spots & fall into our laps at 33..?

Can they?

If one of them does, we win this draft, hands down.

KOTD

imagine: Heppell AND Darling.

I mean, either way, we could end up with a Lucas Cook or Karnezis or Andreoli or Luke Mitchell...

But in my eyes Jacobs & Darling are 1st round talents

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the
