Don't get me wrong, as a paid up member for the past 20 odd years (you can do that in later life when the kids have vacated) I am loving the things our present MFC management and players are achieving. However, I get the feeling after debt demolition that we, Trident & Redleg supporters are not being carried along with the club's renewed success.

I go back to 2001 when there was another call to arms by the club, BUY A BRICK (each about $500)which we did, which was to be forever displayed somewhere in the club. The bloody brick is now somewhere in the bowels of the MCG never again sighted by those families the Brick was purchased to represent.

I have raised this matter before, apparently the bricks are mounted on a board inside the old change rooms, "can't fit them through the new doorways" so say administration, so they stay there until someone chucks them as too bloody old, no longer meaning full, more dough to the club unrecognised.

I am most disappointed at not being shown(or promised to do so) through the new facilities which we have all made a contribution too, is it the same attitude to the FAMILY BRICK that I purchased all those years ago without recognition.

Love the club, but sometimes old actions have to be carried through to truly earn respect.

The "bricks" the OP mentions were actually NAMED tiles that were to be DISPLAYED in "aggrandizement" of those generous and passionate enough to assist our desperate club.

I've actually never used a thesaurus.

Personally if the club promised me a tour through the new facilities etc and then didn't I too would be asking why?

Perhaps if they are unable to transport the bricks in, a plaque with all the names would suffice? That way the recognition and spirit of the donation is still present, and if they do refurbish/demolish parts of the old change room you could 'own a piece of the MCG?'

they might be waiting for the players to go on their pre-season holidays i.e. no point have a couple thousand people truding through the offices and gym etc when the players might be trying to use teh facilities and/or staff are busy trying to get the team up each weekend. Plus I don't believe the facilities are 100% completed. They may be waiting to finish it all up first.

I purchased a tile back in 2001, and received a replica which sits here beside me amongst all of my other MFC memorabilia. That more than meets my personal requirements. However, I really value DemonSG and all others who share my passion for the Melbourne Football Club, and are/were prepared to part with their hard-earned to support the Club in tough times.

I have given a lot money to the club, well beyond my means at times, and I do not give an ounce of thought to receiving some sort of recognition in return - it is about the money being used wisely for the prolonged success of the club I love. It is not about me.

Sure, if you committ to something, then you should follow through with it.

But when it is a committment made by a past regime (that to me sounds an ill-considered gimmick) then is it not better to move on and just be glad you have helped the club?

This club like many has had it's ups and down's over the years and it's supporters have often been called on to contribute funds to help keep it alive, you are obviously unaware of this. The idea of the brick was for it to be displayed in the permanent change rooms as recognition of a relatively major finacial contribution. This was a fund raising initative made by the club, past regime or not is not the point, the point is that it was a commitment made by THE CLUB and the current administration needs to recognise that and follow through past promises and have those bricks displayed.

I realize the new facility is a work place but it must be possible to arrange small groups to be given tours as, by the way, has already happened for some supporters. This club needs to be all inclusive and this would be one way to do that.

Another way to be more inclusive would be to have members invited into the change rooms on match day. Obviously not all members could attend on the one day but there could be a system devised whereby small groups could be invited in, now that would really give members a feeling of belonging.

Why don't you put it in writing to the club about being shown through the new facilities if it bugs you that much, so you can knock that chip off your shoulder ?

Honestly, I've been a member of the club for as long as you and I've made numerous donations. I accept "thankyou" as a recognition.

When you're a part of a club that is as old as nearly ~ 152 years, you must understand and acknowledge that there have been many, many contributions for a long, long time now. In time, these have all been recognised in some shape or form. I don't expect the club to have listed every single contribution acknowledged made "in stone" over time, there would simply be no room. But I'm sure (although not certain) they would be archived and acknowledged in some other manner, again, in time.

PS. It's been a busy year with the ongoing move (having just moved out of the Junction). There would still be other things to be done in the meantime. Give the club a break.

Talking about old MCC / MFC fund raisers, I found in my old MFC stuff 2 certificates I would say from around 1978 saying I had the right to 1 square foot of the MCG cricket pitch attached to them is a little cylinder of dirt I assume from the pitch.

Can anyone remember what these were about, I can remember paying something for them

I'm sure the MFC would consider tours of the facilities. If you feel that strongly about it, ask the club ! You may well receive an invite or there might be an option for an open day or something of that nature.

Money is important to most people, recognition important to some, but support is important to all. Everyone needs to be supported, football clubs included. Why do you feel that you must be continually recognised for something you did in the name of charity? Donations are supposed to help those to whom the donation is given, not to provide those who gave the support the eternal right to demand some sort of recourse or payback. Just be happy that you supported something you love.

A thesaurus isn't for learning new words, in my view; it is for finding words with a similar meaning to one you already know.

It's generally used by people in writing when they can't think of a different word or phrase to use so that they don't repeat themselves.

I've rarely had any need for a thesaurus.
