Gold Coast rumour

Recommended Posts

Have heard from a Hawthorn player that i live next door to that Jordan Gysberts may be the player from Melbourne's list heading north with some suncreen.

Would be absolutley [censored] off and devastated if this was the case- seeing as a) he's a number 11 pick and B) he played very well in his first few games

i'm wondering whether the club has found out hence the reason to not play him- the back injury seems a little dodgy as he pulled up fine after collingwood game and then had a week off for the crows.

Thoughts? You've got to understand that there will be at least one player going to the GC from our list

i thought it was only 1 uncontracted player from each list. And Gysberts is contracted for next season so I don't get it.

I prefer the rumour I heard that they were going to take Kyle Cheney

Don't worry about it. There's no point stressing about it, because just like any other rumour it's most likely to be horse crap. How long was it taken as gospel that Petterd was gone? And there's no guarantee that we'll lose any players at all.

Edit: And as Freak said, he's contracted, so good luck with that GC.

If Gysberts is heading North to an expansiion club it would have to be GWS. Gysberts is on the standard 2 year contract all rookie players drafted in the national draft are on, so he's contracted for next season.

Why ? GCcan take up to 16 over 2 years. Doesn't mean for certain that will be uniform acroos all and every club. Gysberts is still contracted by my understanding. Hawk player ? Bit of muck raking I think

I think it's more likely the player has his wires crossed and is talking about Jordie McKenzie...

But that is just as unlikely.

Edit: (Jordie is on the rookie list, so I don't think the same rules apply as if he was a senior listed player out of contract. Jordie will be out of contract, but elevated to our senior list with one of our draft picks. I highly doubt he'd turn down a lucrative offer from Adelaide to stay on our rookie list out of loyalty & mateship, then spurn us for more money on the GC.

He's also a good honest country boy from Victoria.

I'd be more worried about Cheney...)

There is no minimums per club, only maximums.

If GC took all the possible player numbers from all the different source categories they would exceed their list limits.

In fact they should be in a good position to do some horse trading, so they could be a good source for clubs getting youth (in return for some experience/depth outside of uncontracted players).

Cotchin? Roughhead? J Selwood? Petterd? Hurley?

All of these guys were dead-set certs to goto GC in the last 12 months, and they've all re-signed.

Take any speculation on players to GC with a large grain of Saxa table salt.

I have heard that the house GC17 bought for Petterd is now being shopped around to the Gys. And apparently his folks have been offered free tickets to wet n wild......true dinks......

Have heard a similar rumour but relating to a senior player, and absolutely not gysberts...but for two reasons I am not going to offer the name.

The reasons?

one is I'd like it to happen, and so would most who contribute to this site, so let's not spoil it.

two is that the source, while connected, has sometimes seemed to me to be a source of deliberate misinformation.

best take all rumours with a pinch (ps. It ain't Brad Miller.)

Three is it's Cam Bruce. That rumour was floated a while ago.

Your Hawk player got it wrong, wrong club and wrong Jordan. It is actually the Tigers' Jordan McMahon. They are looking for a player who can kick a goal to win a game after the siren, from about 45 metres out.

PS. Ask your Hawk player if Campbell Brown has a liking for the sea and sun?

Jim Stynes was on 3AW last night and when asked about the Bruce rumour he didn't sound too convincing when he said he didn't think it would happen.

I guess if both parties want it to happen, then it's going to be a win-win we should try and make it happen.

If you are correct and both parties want it to happen then IMO it would be most likely done as a trade rather than an uncontracted player selection. Cam is a Life Member and has had a great career with Melbourne and if he wanted to head north for a couple of years I am sure he would want us compensated immediately and to ensure he left on good terms. A swap for a draft pick could be negotiated fairly easily as the GC will have plenty of them. That will leave open their chance of another uncontracted player from another club.

As Redleg indicated, "if you are right" in that regard - that both parties want it to happen....do you think this case could potentially end up in the KOTD tray with the other two cases ? :D

From listening to Bruce being interviewed this season he definitely thinks he has 2 or 3 seasons left in him. He might see the writing on the wall like Brock did and jump before he gets pushed. He would know the amount of talent coming through and the direction the club is taking & would anticipate less game time and less $$$ in his next contract. It would be a wise move by him to request a trade now while his dollars are still up. Who knows maybe the coaching staff are giving him so much game time and playing him loose in defense is to squeeze a better pick out of GC?

Not saying I want this to happen or believe it will at this stage but saying that footy is a business and this trade would work out for all parties.

Surely the compensation pick is also a valuable commodity?

Obviously this coming draft is supposed to be very strong so a trade would be ideal, but that would be dependent on what GC17 is willing to offer and also have to be weighed against what category pick the AFL thinks he is worth.

Having an extra draft pick up your sleeve for later on when you need to top up, could be very beneficial if managed correctly.

Don't think this is 100% accurate.

I'm under the impression that GC17 can obtain 1 uncontracted player from each club, providing they don't exceed the salary cap. The theory a while back was that if/when Ablett signs, the amount they will be paying him will significantly reduce the amount of uncontracted players that they will be able to afford. While Cam Bruce may be an option for them, it doesn't mean we are guaranteed to lose a player.

Best thing we can do is hope Ablett DOES sign, as this will reduce the amount of current AFL players they will be able to take.

I really couldn't blame a player in Cam's position, it isn't as if we offered White, Yze, Wheatley, Whelan an extra year or two for service rendered.

It is a shame to see servants of the club not kept at the MFC, but I can see that the club is trying to put together the 18 to 23 year old core group for a serious tilt at a 5 year window of opportunaty..

    DELUGE by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons overcame their inaccuracy and the wet inhospitable conditions to overrun the lowly Northern Bullants at Genis Steel Oval in Cramer Street, Preston on Saturday. It was an eerie feeling entering the ground that in the past hosted many VFA/VFL greats of the past including the legendary Roy Cazaly. The cold and drizzly rain and the sparse crowd were enough to make one want to escape to the nearby Preston Market and hang out there for the afternoon. In the event, the fans

    INSANITY by Whispering Jack

Somehow, the Melbourne Football Club managed it twice in the course of a week. Coach Simon Goodwin admitted it in his press conference after the loss against the Brisbane Lions in a game where his team held a four goal lead in the third term:   "In reality we went a bit safe. Big occasion, a lot of young players playing. We probably just went into our shell a bit. "There's a bit to unpack in that last quarter … whether we go into our shells a bit late in the game."   Well

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi

    WILDCARDS by KC from Casey

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last
