Grumpy analysis today!

Garland was very good for mine. He oozes class and is a very smart player. Incredibly happy to have him back on the field!

And McKenzie was terrific too.

Watts was not our best, but he was very good. He played in front of his opponent all day, he ran hard, he put himself in the contests and his set shot on goal is orgasmic. He is obviously a lot fitter now than 4 or even 2 weeks ago, because he makes more contests and runs harder. Though hopefully he spends less time on the wing and more down in the forward 50 from next season onwards.

And while there have been some terrible injuries this weekend, and some heartbreaking ones too, I'm pretty shattered about Grimesy. Stupid f'ing Etihad surface!

Frawley - kept at task - better than Milne in 1 on 1's but let him slip badly at a couple of thrown in's.

Grimes - injured and missed - yep....DEVASTATED!

Jamar - had little influence - beaten well early and worked hard to have more touches & almost double hitouts than Gardiner

Jetta - did almost nothing - his lack of influence is increasing by the week

Jones - taught a lesson - struggled

MacDonald - tough but slow - tries hard, turns it over

Moloney - displays diminishing zest - works hard, good in the contests, looks slow at times

Rivers - milestone to forget - Riv's struggling a bit

Scully - was rarely noticed - looked a bit tired today skull

Trengove - a rare winner - looked like game 113 not 13 for Trengove, he is a star

Watts - our best player - no that was Trengove but doing some better things each week, not killing it & needs to go harder, goal from 50 in 2nd all class

McKenzie - overwhelmed by class - harsh, wrong assessment that! 24 touches, 5 tackles and one of our better players

Spencer - an underwhelming display - uncoordinated, could be more damaging if was less unco

Jaded has nailed it with regards to Watts. He's looking much fitter than his debut game where he was knackered after about 10 minutes. Today was probably his best game for the club, not a break out game but a game to build on for sure.

Agree, game to build on. Should play evey week from now on (which I am sure is the plan). Hopefully will spend more time closer to goal with each week. Good that he is working hard up the ground to become involved.

I hope the last two years has been a very good development period for him. He is just showing that he could make it as a forward.

I would say that the last two years have taught him a huge amount about defensive work. That will stand him in good stead as he is asked to take on the rebounding defenders week after week and shut them down while still scoring a goal or two himself. It's a good role for him and he could be very good for us filling it.

I was at the game, and have the following to add:

Jamar was solid, but failed to dominate.

Watts worked hard, and was a target to kick to. He is building some form and is looking good.

Dunn is starting to lock down a forward role in this team- he is here to stay.

If it was not for Bate's red hair, I would not have known he was playing. He was owned by the saints backline.

Spencer is too weak/slow for AFL, and lacks the skills to really warrant selection..........he is still the second best ruckman on our list as at todays date. Will get another contracted offer for 1 year, not sure from there.

Jetta goes missing far too often. Can look good when he has it in his hands, but that is rare.

Garland and the back six were under siege, he dealt with it head on and came out on top.
