How good was this guy? Fast, skillfull and could take a nice screamer!!

good one MFC, keep these blasts from the past happening. Love to see a lyon, Jackovich, Swartz and even a Rodney ginder greatest hits Video

Go Dees

Outstanding film clip of a truly brilliant footballer.

He is the best I have seen in an MFC jumper in the past 40 years.

For those who never saw him play, you missed a star and a treat.

And with all due respect to some fine MFC players since we have not had another like him or as good as him.

I hope the current generation of Scully, Trengove, Watts and co develop to become players of that high quality.

Go Dees

Amazing player. He always took on about opposition three players, treating them like witches hats. His baulking and evasive skills were sensational.

Greatest player of all.....

I can't recall the exact date... late 70's i think ..we were playing Essedon at Windy Hill and Robbie kicked the greatest ever goal in the history of the VFL / AFL ....He picked up the footy around the wing i think and bounced the ball a number of times and baulked 7 or 8 Essendon players and kicked the goal....

The goal was never captured on film as only the main games were filmed in full those days.. however i was there and the goal was so great that even the one-eyed Essendon Supporters all rose and gave him a a one or two minute standing ovation after the goal...thats unheard of !

Anyway he was asked to appear on 'World of Sport' the next day to just talk about the goal....thats how good it was!

There will never be another Robert Flower....

Good to see all the Robbie love in here.

I still have my signed poster of robbie picking up the ball one handed.

Through out the 80's Robbie's silky skills was more than enough of a reason to head to the G on a rainy day.

I nearly teared up. My favourite footballer and probably, favourite sportsman of all time. A beacon in the dark years who kept us coming to watch the Dees because of his brilliance. Also a modest and loyal person who stayed with the Dees despite huge offers from stronger clubs.

I am thrilled to say he became and still is a friend of mine.

Agree. I was there too and it was the greatest goal I have ever seen. He actually picked up the ball between half back and back pocket and ran the ground, dodging and weaving and finally putting the ball through the big sticks. Only time I have seen the opposition fans stand and clap a piece of play from the opposition.

I'm with you on this one ... 100%

Never, never ever forget that day out at Whitten Oval ... "when we gave our all for Robbie" ... he is a legend of our club.

Great footage! How Keith Greig won 2 Brownlow Medals and Robbie none defies belief.I could never work that one out.

For a player that talked himself into getting a run with our club. Not overly tall, skinny, quick without being the quickest.Should never have played VFL football however his determination and self belief must have been unparalled.

Also his courage in the latter part of his career to play on when his shoulder kept popping out about 3 or 4 times a game was amazing. Also a GUN State player!

wow... he was well and truly retired when I was born, I missed a lot it would seem... Jesus H Christ he was fast.

Great compilation from mfcnow, not sure if he/she posts here but congrats if so... keep up the good work.

And thats not all the best of him. Another piece of work i remember was i think @ the MCG against Carlton, Robbie got the ball around Half Forwrd, surrounded by about 3 or 4 Carlton players of a very strong Carlton team & Era, he took a half step this way, a half step that way baulked here, sold the dummy there, without moving off the spot. They couldn't lay a hand on him, eventually he put the ball to boot kicking over his shoulder to I think go through for a goal.

Just a magical player with mystical powers.

He Would be a superstar today, up there with Gary Ablett Jnr. No problem at all. Perfect player for todays football running the lines through the zones & floods.

Great video, what speed and vision he had. Amazing. I will watch the Jimmy one later when I have time. I once had a video (VHS) and I think it was called Dublin Jim - it was my fav, was about Jim in 91 winning the Brownlow taking his dad etc, not only do I no longer have the video I wouldnt have anything to play it in, has anyone seen it on DVD? I have searched and had no luck.

What a thrill to see a clip on Robbie Flower whom i rate as the best pound for pound player to ever play the game

To those who never saw Flower play just look at the poise and balance he had even on crappy grounds

Was equally good by hand and foot on either side which so many players today lack

Sure its a highight reel but he did that every week

Flower was all class

Thanks for the memories

Not to denegrate another fine wingman but when North played Melbourne dual brownlow medalist Keith Greig played on the opposing wing when Flower was playing

Schimma alwways got the job on Flower

How was that run through the Carlton Players very early on.

R Flower could play today with that style...

Probably the most skilled palyer ever to play the game. gave me much pleasure watching him in those barren years in the 70's and 80's

I really wish I had the pleasure of watching him live, because every vision I've seen of him makes me think that he would [censored] all over Ablett and Judd even in 2010. Amazing.

There were a number of Demonland Trackwatchers at Gosch's Paddock this morning to bring you their observations from Preseason Training. KEV MARTIN'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS They were going hard at each other. The sims were in two 15 minute blocks. The second block finished a few minutes early, they gathered and had another 7 minutes at it. I think they were asked to compete, as they would play against an opposition. There was plenty of niggle, between some of them. At the end o

Better late than never … and quite frankly, there’s very little to report other than that training took place at Casey Fields this morning, that Tracc was there nursing his rib injury and that some photographs are on the club’s social media including this one of Clarrie in Raging Bull stance that gives rise for confidence. The other news is that the club has a new train on player in 185cm Dandenong Stingrays midfielder Noah Hibbins-Hargreaves (love the hyphenated name which is just so fitti

Welcome back to Demonland for those like me who have been on vacation. I’m posting this with some trepidation because of a certain amount of uncertainty surrounding the return of preseason training in 2025 after a flurry of weddings including those of our coach, one of our superstar players and a former premiership champion player and bloke, not to mention the recent mysterious incident that occurred on the Mornington Peninsula.  I believe that the team reassembles this morning at Casey Fie

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to
