Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Scully and Trengove

In the media Scully are frequently been compared to Judd, however I think his clean ball skills and gut running really resemble a young Ben Cousins.

I find Trengove difficult to liken to any past/present player, and therefore feel he will become Jack Trengove.

Curious to know what others think?

(BTW if your in a negative Nancy mood then ignore this thread, which is purely for discussing feel-good, light-hearted hypotheticals)

I honestly think these two boys will set there own level. Others will be matched to them.

Watching them in the rain against the dogs was quite inspiring.

Jim Stynes must be so proud.

Scully = Judd... almost - same explosive pace, slightly different style. I reckon Scully's 'style' will become as distinctive as Judd's (you know, the way he holds himself etc). As in, when you see Judd bursting through a pack, holding the ball like he does, you think 'vintage Judd'.

Trengove = ? His balance and awareness bring no-one immediately to mind... i.e. the way he holds his feet in the contest. A thing of beauty.

Jizz.

Agree 100%... I was saying elsewhere that I hope these boys will be the benchmark that supporters of other clubs will compare their players to. I really don't see the point of making comparisons as it seems to indicate that they are not in a league of their own.

Scully - Judd

Trengove - N. Buckley

But both will add there own unique touch!

There are aspects about Scully that remind me of Greg Williams (his great hands and spatial awareness). Gysberts definitely modelled on Hird. Hadn't thought of it, but reading here Trengove is a bit Buckleyish (minus the fig jam, of course).

Scully - Gary Ablett Jr (!!)

Trengove - Lenny Hayes

Gysberts - Simon Black / Scott Pendlebury

Tapscott - Paul Chapman

McKenzie - Cam Ling / Brett Kirk

Grimes - Luke Hodge / Jim Bartel

Morton - James Hird

Blease - Boomer Harvey / Leigh Montagna

Strauss - Jason Gram / Lindsay Gilbee

Scully - Chris Judd

Trengove - Not-as-tough version of Nathan Buckley or Michael Voss, but quicker

Gysberts - James Hird-ish

Tapscott - Paul Chapman like, but taller

McKenzie - Cameron Ling/Junior

Gawn - Aaron Sandilands

Fitzpatrick - Tall marking ruckman/forward? A lean Brad Ottens

Blease - Hard to say, I'm thinking Blease is to Melbourne what Joel Corey is to Geelong...except younger

Strauss - Haven't seen or heard enough

Watts - He'll make his own name - then again, I could say that about everybody

Scully reminds me very much of Paul Kelly from the Swans, & also, a little like what I remember of Bobby Skilton. But Skilts had much better foot skills.

Jack Trengove: Strong overhead, plays tall for his size, great skills off both sides, very good endurance, smart player who does the team things, footy intelligence. Still trying to think of a likeness.

If I HAD to make comparisons, I'd go with:

Scully - Judd. Got the same burst of speed from the packs, with slick hands like Simon Black.

Trengove - Bartel. Good mark for his size, reads the play well, gets to the right spots, uses his body to put bumps and block for others, and bring team mates into the game. Also reminds me of Buckley with his kicking.

It's pointless doing comparisons though. They will be Tom Scully and Jack Trengove; Melbourne champions who lead us to our next flag, and have people compared to them in the future.

Scully - Judd (He has always looked Judd like, thats the first thing I thought when I saw him play in the under 18's)

Trengove - Bartel (Only because I had to choose one)

Gysberts - Corey (He is just like Joel Corey, not fast but not slow, not strong but not weak, not tall but not short. Just an absolute ball magnet)

Watts - Jesus (It is hard to compare anyone to Jack, but Jesus would be close)

Tapscott - Chapman (Strong bodied, goal kicking, long bombing player. I can't wait.

McKenzie - JnrMC (I think we have another player, just like our own captain fantastic James McDonald.

I agree Trengove will be his own man, but in my time he reminds me a little of a young Gerard Healy. it you ask my father, he says Scully reminds him of a young Stuart Spencer.

Now I will wait for the howls of derision.....

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

    TRAINING: Monday 29th April 2024

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the
