lol, if MFC ALSO had not lost the games they were favourites for (NM & WCE) they would then be 7-1.. and if they had not lost to Hawthorn in round 1 they would be 9-0, and if they had won only 1 less game in 2008 MFC would have Jack Watts & a the #2 pick also.

Possibility on MFC making the 8 are slim... very slim. So slim it would make an anorexic person look morbidly obese.

Your point is?

We won't make the 8. And that isn't negative - considering we have to win 8 games to do that and we still play teams such as Geelong, Carlton, Collingwood, St Kilda etc.

I'd call you a fool, but I don't want to be negative...

So instead I'll just draw attention to your bizarre signature.

You make me not want to drink redbull.

Haa another step closer to the 8 fool Haa.

Our games for the rest of the season:

Round 10 vs Geelong: LOSS

Round 11 vs Carlton: MAYBE

Round 12 vs Collingwood: LOSS

Round 13 vs Adelaide: LOSS

Round 14 vs St Kilda: LOSS

Round 15 vs Essendon: WIN

Round 16 vs Fremantle: LOSS

Round 17 vs Sydney: WIN

Round 18 vs Brisbane: LOSS

Round 19 vs Richmond: WIN

Round 20 vs Hawthorn: MAYBE

Round 21 vs Port Adelaide: LOSS

Round 22 vs North Melbourne: WIN

Which would leave us at 8-10 wins for the season. Not enough for the 8.

And you call us fools.

Even if we win all the games we 'should' and 'might' we're still behind. We'd need to win all of those AND some games against pretty fancied teams (and some of those would be road trips).

Posted

We'll be extremely unpredictable this season (as we've already shown). I think the harder second half draw will help us. No pressure, nothing to loose. I expect us to play better against a St Kilda, rather than a North Melbourne. If I was being extremely optimistic, I could say that 5 or 6 more wins may well happen. That said, I'd have absolutely no idea which teams we'd beat and which we'd loose too, because as I say, we'll continue to be totally unpredictable. This should be frustrating but exciting at the same time.

Posted

We are too hot and cold at the moment, we will continue to surprise some teams and then lose games we expect to win like north and west coast. still reckon we will win 8 or 9 for the year. Likely finish 10th to 13th.

Posted

There are sides I reckon we'll surprise a few and trouble. Like St Kilda... They have a great defence, but not much of a forward line. Our defence, currently the 4th best in the league, will cause them more issues than most. That game, along with the Geelong one, will be won by the goal-kicking mids.

The annoying thing is that we might get run over by a running side like Essendon or Carlton, which will be, sad to say, hard to swallow.

The Pies one is big for me though. Big audience, big opponent with no home ground advantage. The biggest win of the year would be the Cats next week if miracles could happen... but the Pies one is a far greater possibility, and has the potential to be a watershed day for the club with what I'm sure will be a MASSIVE turnout. Absolutely massive.

We will not make the 8 this year. We were never going to. I would suggest that if you think we will you have dangerously high expectations and suggest you water them down know rather than make unreasonable dummy spits on this sight when our team links together a few bad performances. Fairies don't exist at the bottom of the garden.

Even if we did, we'd have to fall across the line to get in and even then, we'd just be making up numbers.

We're still looking at 9-12 IMO -- which I'd view as a successful year under the circumstances.

Posted

To make the 8 we have to win the Sydney, North Melbourne and Richmond matches easily, then we'd also have to beat Essendon, Hawthorn, Adelaide (away) and Port (away) or maybe Brisbane (away) or Carlton.

Obviously we'd have to win at least one more interstate game, plus we'd have to beat the teams below us on the ladder and put up a good show against the likes of Carlton, Essendon and Hawthorn (and by that I mean win one or two of them).

Short answer: we won't win enough games.

But I wouldn't be surprised if we knocked off St Kilda or picked up another interstate win.

Posted

We have the 2nd or 3rd best defence in the AFL at present depending on which stat you look at so making the 8 is still possible.

Attack, tackling hard and good delivery to the forward line is going to be critical. Nietz said he wouldn't have got a kick against West Coast because of the poor delivery into the forward line, if he was playing, so that is a priority for the Dees to improve on.

Go Dees Attack

Do we really want to make the 8 this year ? Do we want that attention. To finish anything under 5-6 is a waste of time. There may be some warm fuzziness to be had to do so but it will be very short lived. Making the eight per se is not a real goal...to make top 4 with a real chance to tilt is. Making finals is not a goal..its a path. Premierships are the goal and to do that consolidation of a good working and competitve team is the vehicle to do that. That team needs more consistency and skills than presently presenting.

Should we look to the 8 this year ? I dont think so. Lets spread some games around and build the base.

With Fremantle & Port Power in the 8, there's are good chance we will play them in the 1st week at THEIR venue - if we sneak in. Then it's all over.

Should we look to the 8 this year? Wouldn't be a bad idea to give the young ones a taste of finals action & make them hungry next year.

Finals experience should never be Scoffed at.

Making the 8 this year would be MASSIVE to this club-who knows the first week could be at the MCG-If we make the 8 we deserve the experience.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
