Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

I think they'll play scarlett on whoever they deem to be the most dangerous forward. The Geelong back line seems to have the flexibility to line up based on best matchup, rather than best position.

not necessarily. for example Scarlett wouldn't line up on Bennell or Davey, if they're seen as the most dangerous. It will more than likely be a tall, either Watts or Miller.

The beauty of Scarlett is he can play on anyone, small, tall, short or quick. No many match ups up really worries him. We need to exploit them on the rebound, they run off and back their attacking footy. If we can put midfeild pressure on like they have not seen before, then get it in quick, then we are a chance.

We have to be ferocious and uncompromising this weekend, this game could define our future. it is a critical match in terms of where we are and how we are managed to bounce back from a hooror road trip, energy sapping conditions and a thrilling euphoric win.

Cant wait to see how we confront the toughest gig in Footy.

EDIT: sorry, does not have alot to do with Watts, but i have to post in this thread, it would not feel right if i didnt.

does it have to be Scarlett ? It could be Taylor or Mackie. Scarlett would be on Miller if they set up Miller at FF.

I wonder if Tom Lonergan will be dropping back in the hole with Miller steaming out from FF, Me thinks not.

May well do Steamin. Ouch. They have plenty of options, Geelong.

Whatever the case. Miller, Sylvia & Watts must contest at every possible opportunity and if they cannot mark, the ball needs to hit the deck. Here our small forwards need to be proactive and be dangerous. Bennell, Jetta, Trengove, Scully, Davey & Co. the fleet footed players - we need a fair share of goals from these guys against Geelong.

I think if our midfield can play reasonably okay and put pressure on Geelongs (which is really unheard of down at Skilled) and if our defenders make things hard for Geelong, I think this will be a low scoring affair between the two sides.

Our players just need to back themselves, play on at appropriate times every opportunity and play confidently. If they do that and work back in numbers, you never know. Huge task, but I can't wait to see them challenge the best on one of the best surfaces.

It will be interesting to see who goes when LJ is back especially if Miller holds his form, it could get to the stage where the forward line is rotated with players rested for short spells. It would seem that players like Dunn will really struggle to get back and I couldn't see Newton getting another game with the club.

so instead of talking about this weeks game in general, how about we keeping talking about how much JACK WATTS has shown in the last two games. How clean he is with his disposal. How he seems to have so much time every time he collects the ball. How he is going to be the CHF we've been needing ever since the OX went down with those knee reco's. This guy is something we can continue to be excited about and it'll absolutely awesome to see how he goes against the best team in the land. Oh, and the best thing....the game will be televised on channel 10 at 3pm this Saturday!! For some reason i thought Ten only showed Saturday evening games, so this is awesome news.

By the way - 4 posts until 1000

just watched the first half of melb vs port...Watts did some great things.

if i had the choice between Watts having the same body now but have played 50 games or 10kgs...I'd take the 50 gamers...i think games in watts will be more important for this kid than kg's.

Interesting hypothetical. He obviously will get better with

game time but he certainly needs more strength.

He can't yet compete in a pack situation or a 1 on 1.

Once he gets this strength only then will people really see why

he's a number 1 draftpick. Until then, he'll have to suffer the

taunts that Natanui was the best option.

to do with the watts nat debate, i'd throw hill in there. i mean why not that way we can compare a forward a ruck and a midfielder. different roles different teams different needs.

All three when mature will probably be able to take a game and turn it. it just comes down to who can do it more consitently and what the team needs.

I know this is a very unpopular thing to say, but are we fooling ourselves about Jack Watts. From what we can gather about the game at the weekend young jack was beaten pointless by a less than top 50 draftee. Why was this so? Was he injured? Was he unfit? Or was he not good enough?

I dearly hope I am wrong on this, but I fear he may be another Molan.

Reassure me someone. Show me evidence to the contrary.......

It all started with this...

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,
