Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

This thread really confuses me, I think there's something wrong with the marker on the website.

Every time I look at the forum board, this thread is marked as having new posts 'today', but when I come in, it's the same as last week!

Get used to it.

If we're going to have a topic about a player, let's address it properly.

The man's name is "Jack Watts" not "Watts"

Odd.

Can the administrators please remove this thread and all other negative threads regarding Jack Watts for at least the next 12 months

enough is enough

IMO, this is a terrible idea.

5 pages of this cr@p. Honestly, mods! Going in circles

If you and the others who think this is a terrible thread stopped posting, it would simply die.

Fwiw, the discussion seems to have improved anyhow.

Let's not downplay the importance of Jack Watts

Indeed!

He didn't stroll out of the middle with the ball. He fumbled, chased, fumbled again, chased again... and eventually found himself at the edge of the square with the ball in his hands and no idea what to do next. Had he been tackled while attempting to take the ball it would have been a free, so they just went for the ball instead.

I agree with this Hille wasnt jumping for the ball early on - coming back from knee injury he may have lacked confidence - something NN doesnt.

I think there is a degree of wow factor to NN - but the stats also dont lie and he is in their top 12 and playing senior football. But the essential argument is that draft picks are long term investments. Its too early to judge the value of our choice. There is also the different needs of clubs to consider - our need was for KP forwards.

Hmm. I reckon that's impossible to say. Kangaroos had one, and now look at them. When he was playing what were their memberships like? Are we comparing to other clubs of the time? Grading on a curve?

If Brendan Gale is to believed, 75,000 is possible within this generation of players. If THAT'S true, then 7500 seems a small number.

Personally I think good footy, and playing deep into finals many years running will be what makes the membership numbers climb dramatically. Watts will be a part of that. On his own he wouldn't make much difference. It's the team.

That said, I think Jaded put it best back when we were all looking at NicNat and Watts. People were citing his individuality as a big reason why he would rake the fans in. She said wait and see what the next 195cm Blond 60-80 goal a year forward will do to crowds. Said it all really.

Are you a politician? Just give me an answer to the question.

Oh. Thought it was a rhetorical question.

And I thought I did answer it. It's impossible to answer. You want me to give you a number of memberships Jack Watts will bring in as a successful CHF? 7500 is a completely random stab. All I can say is as long as the mids are kicking it to him and he's putting them through and winning games, memberships will rise. but because of him directly? Who knows...

The comparison would/should be how many would NicNat bring in vs Jack Watts, assuming both become equally good players. I reckon it'd be about the same, really.

fwiw....i've always valued a players worth by seeing how many people are wearing it at the ground.......

Fools. You lose faith so easily- Melbourne chose the long hard road, they went the slowly surely path. Jack Watts is a better quality footballer period, and to all you nay sayers wait till he actually gets the chance to prove us right!

Nick Nat is fully/close to fully developed and may already be shining bright.

Melbourne had clear deficiancies in their list and had to draft for them. Another case of greedy supporters who want to 'have their cake and eat it also'..

Jack Watts is a skinny lanky lad who still wears pyjamas to bed and has a bum fluff moustache. He has a stunning kick on him though..you people will remember this in time.

Supporters do understand that Watts was recruited to be a 600-800 goal kicker ? He was the right pick at the right time.

I have faith he'll fulfill his end of the bargain.

Thought some supporters would be interested to hear this.

My friend at Uni used to play against Watts in BasketBall quite a few years ago and he said he was a freak. He would constantly win games off his own back, including several times winding down the clock then shooting a 3 pointer to win the game. Shows he has confidence in his own ability, so hopefully when he comes back into the side we get to see some of these amazing skills that he has :).

Oh and he also played against Gysberts, who he said was very good as well. I'm jealous of him haha

In todays Article about Jack Watts (http://www.afl.com.au/news/newsarticle/tabid/208/newsid/93314/default.aspx") Chris Connolly says"...continue to build his body as he gets taller and...". So I am curious as to how tall is Jack Watts? I mean his profile says 196 cm, his height when we recruited him (26 November, 2008) was 195 cm...

So how tall is Jack Watts?

Would you rather Ablett Jnr or Jeff WHite?

Would you rather Chris Judd or Dean Cox?

Would you rather Greg Williams or Sean Rehn?

Trengove will be ten times he player Naitanui will ever be, and so much more influential.

Trengove is already 10 times the player of NN.

on the height issue, i am 195 odd and when i ran into jack before the richmond game he was clearly a few cm taller than me.

on the NN issue, he is an athlete, not a footballer. remember that.

as for jack, what stands out for me was that one moment in the essendon game. barely 18. playing at chf in a team that was getting thumped. gets ball. turns. 4 essendon blokes around him. 3 steps sideways - he knew exactly where those 4 essendon blokes were. looked up, took his time and spotted brad green on his own. goal. for me that was enough to see and know he will be a star. give him a 1/2 decent team, some muscle, some fitness, some experience and the guy will be the best player in the comp.

I think you would also agree that Watts would be more influential than Naitanui too.

I read somewhere he is around the 198cm mark now

I'd be very surprised if he was 198cm. Was standing not far away from him at three quarter time at Ballarat. He is no giant, much more a teenager's body than a mature man. Which I guess is the point.

We need to give him time to mature. He is after all only 18 and big key position player takes more time than say a scully or a trengove. When you see him play though you do see a fantastic mover for his size. I can certainly believe he was one of the fastest at Afl camp and appears to have a very big engine. He also shows glimpses of the future such as last week when he very nearly took an absolute screamer in the goalsquare against three opponents. He just at this stage does not get the ball enough so does not yet deserve a game in the ones. He will earn it when he gets a few BOGs for the scorpions, we should be prepared that this may not br this year. Let him have a full pre season next year, have one more year's growth,
and
I have no doubt we will end up with an elite footballer in the riewolt mould, except quicker and more skilled from a ball handling perspective. He is almost scully like in his handballing skills.

From all reports Watts was ordinary today. Kicked 1 goal fluffed a couple and generally had no impact.

That's all true and no doubt Jack Watts would not be happy with his game today. It wasn't what you would expect from a # 1 draft choice. Having said that I'm still convinced about him becoming a champion KPF for the Melbourne Football Club. Despite him having a dirty day and copping a fair amount of sh1t from some of the idiots in the crowd, he showed more than a few things that suggest he is a cut above any other teenager of his height that I've seen in the recent past. He has fantastic pace, thinks well, always seems to have the time to make the right decisions, shows composure and has fantastic second and third efforts. I'm told that last week he kicked the goal to put Casey in front for the first time against North Ballarat. Today, he kicked a vital goal in the last quarter and, a little later put in a terrific effort that allowed Brad Miller to kick the goal that sealed Gold Coast's fate.

I suggest that you keep the faith in him because he will reward us all in the years to come.

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the
