Decent article about Demonland's forgotten man - Daniel Bell. Basically outlines:

- he's taking nothing for granted;

- Keen to put a horror injury plagued 2009 behind him;

- Wants to go back to his junior footballing roots - he starred as a forward/midfielder in the U18's;

- Still remembering the legacy of the late Troy Broadbridge.

I'm on the Daniel Bell bandwagon in 2009.

It sounds harsh - but anything we get from Bell both this year and into the future is a bonus.

He's a good hard worker and courageous so young players should learn from that.

I really like Daniel Bell, gutsy player who always wants to give his all for the team and is a good bloke.

Very much a confidence player IMO, hopefully he can get a few touches tomorrow and back himself.

I've always loved his heart. But when you look at the list it's hard to imagine he'll get more than a handful of games. He'll probably be brought in to make up for injuries to other players. I still have faint hope, but he was just injured too often... and at all the wrong times.

It would truly be a wonderful, albeit unexpected, bonus if Daniel could have a successful year. He's been around the club a long time, so is now one of the "senior" players in the group. Can't question his heart. And, to "do it for Troy" would, indeed, be a nice touch.

I, for one, wish Daniel all the very best for a great 2010 in the red & blue...

Agreed.

Daniel Bell is tough and courageous but it is his decision making when disposing of the ball that lets him down. He needs to improve in that area if he wishes to keep a regular spot in the side.

I'm also on the Daniel Bell bandwagon this year.

He was a great prospect early on. I can even remember someone on demonology stating "I hope Bell lays one of his bone-crunching tackles on Didak this week". People used to rate him in the early days.

His lack of improvement has come from injury. I know he's played some games, but things haven't quite gone his way with interruptions (for said injuries) and a couple of disheartening games interposed.

I would love to see the return of the "Bone Cruncher" that so many have given up on. Get some more physical presence around the kiddies. If Col Sylvia can recover from a bad start to his career, then so can this bloke.

Rip into'em Belly.

Edit: Had to add 'also' to first line after realisng that I'd just flat out plagiarised another poster.

I'm definitely not on the Daniel Bell bandwagon this year.

Sorry.

He has courage and determination oozing out of him, but not enough ball-winning or ball-using ability. Maybe a move to become an 'enforcer'/Max Rooke kind of player could spark something, but there are other players on the list who'd do better in the team than Bell.

I really hope he does well, and that he's able to improve his decision making: so many times you would see him hesitate and get caught with the ball in defence...

He's played some decent football over the years that makes me think "he might make it" so here's to getting a few good solid years out of Belly.

    UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

    Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
