Sorry mate... at this stage we have only got 5 picks altogether - so that 2 of Daw, Grimes and LJ MkII will have to miss out!

The choice is going to be somewhat more complex this year with a number of different factors involved. Liam Jurrah was available to us because of special circumstances which enabled him to be registered for the PSD but not for the preceding ND. There's no guarantee at all that a Liam Jurrah MkII is going to be available.

Then there's Luke Ball who according to Caroline Wilson doesn't want to play with the wooden spooner. If that's the case it makes him a greater pompous git than even Chri$ Judd who left a perennial finallist to go to Carlton who were then an on field basket case with a wad of first round draft picks. Sure, Judd did it for the $ but at least he had the balls to go to a lowly club and help the cause and apparantly to also to ignore the family's wishes (grandma wanted him to come to Melbourne). The other bloke and his family don't seem to have the balls for either.

Yes. I would prefer Bradshaw than Luke Ball.

1) Scully

2) Trengove

11) Carlisle

18) Fitzpatrick

34) At the Moment Pass(if we delist another player we can look at this then)

PSD 1) Ball or Thorp

Depends on Ball but we either add 3 midfielders a 2 KPP or 2 mids and 3 KPP.

I like Fitzpatrick because he gives you the option to have a tall forward/second ruckman @200cm tall.

We get the two best kids in the draft, take the best slider with 11, pick up a Jurrah clone @ 18 and Thorpe is taken as a gamble. Ball in the psd is the icing

Oh man, I need to take a cold shower.

Totally agree with you there 45hotgod16, although you can't speak for everyone these days .

*silence*

Also agree with no chance of another Jurrah-like available at PSD #1. Impossible.

edit: well ok, almost impossible.

You're on the money there.

KOTD in November.

If Ball is unavailable then the boys have to decide whether Pick 34 is worth more than whoever is left for Dec 15.

But it really is a 'best of a bad lot' decision.

Whilst I know there's another thread, and not saying that he's "another Jurrah" I would appreciate comments/thoughts on Liam Patrick's position in the draft. He seems a very talented player, but am unsure as to what position he would best be suited to in the AFL. Is he worth a consideration as pick 34 (assuming that we decide to use it) or does he go in the rookie draft?

Sorry mate... at this stage we have only got 5 picks altogether - so that 2 of Daw, Grimes and LJ MkII will have to miss out!

Still plenty of time to delist some more players. It all depends on who's up for grabs in the various drafts I would think.

I'd love us to make a play for Liam Patrick although at 21 he may be a little too old for a project player and he'll take a few years to get up to AFL standard. However the problem would be leaving him for the Rookie Draft. GC17 could easily snatch him with their raft of free picks before we get a look. The only realistic way to get him would be a late ND pick or the PSD.

Anyway...

1 & 2 - Scully and Trengove - I don't really care what order as long as we get them. Morabito is still an outside chance but I think Trengove has firmed and his leadership gets him over the line.

11 - Best available tall. Talia or Butcher would be nice.

18 & 34 - Go for the risky/talented options. Griffiths, Temel and Daw are all possibilities. If they want a safer choice for 18 I'd say Vardy. Our ruck brigade is still not great and he is real quality. Should be around at 18. Many people want Grimes for 34 and I couldn't argue with that except that it would be going for a certain fair player rather than a chance at a brilliant one.

PSD1 - Someone out of Left Field. We've had success twice with this and things always happen in threes. Also the crop of delisted players, while talented, seems to be very flawed. Many of them are serious injury risks and there seem to be some attitude problems. I'd prefer to see us pull a real talent from obscurity and give them a chance. Liam Patrick is an option, as stated above. There are sure to be others.

Sorry to say it again... but at the moment we have only have 5 picks. So it's a bit fanciful to prepare wish lists with both pick 34 and PSD in it

No cause if Ball comes to us then the club will definately delist a player prior to the PSD.

I know nothing of the PSD or rooking so,

Would we be able to place someone on the rookie list, like say: Daw or that "other" Liam.

1: Scully

2: Trengove

11: Best available forward

18: Vardy

34: Grimes, Daw, best Avlble

50: Of Daw's still around

PSD: Hopefully Daw or the 'other' liam or best available.

I like Vardy alot.

The harsh truth is that if Ball wanted to come to the dees he would have said so already (we have the cap room for him). We are the last in line for Luke Ball (of those 4-5 clubs in the running for his signature).

Bradshaw wants to go to the Swans...so why get in the way of him doing it. We don't need a player with 3 years of footy left (less if injured). We need 6+ year player who will be up and about when our footy club is in the mix for a flag. Great player, but just doesn't make good sense for either party.

As for the draft, this suits me:

1 Scully

2 Trengove

11 Butcher/Talia

18 Vardy/Black

34 Fill a need/best available at that pick.

PSD- Pass!

As for the cap space, would be worth a look at extending a few contracts to keep those GC bastards from getting in the ears of our kids.

I think Hooper would make a good 34 or 50 :D.. Good mate of mine, it'll be great if he played for Melbourne. A really good leader for his country club back in Ballarat. Friends claim to feel safe and confident when he's playing.

Where is the truth in anything you just wrote. Has he said that he definately said that he wants to stay at StKilda? No. Who are these 4 or 5 clubs in line for Ball? I can only think of the Saints if you are thinking Collingwood you are dreaming no chance of him getting there.

You're very definite about this.

-Bit rough on the player to delist him at the last minute - when other doors might be shut. Who do you think it will be?

-If Ball doesn't come to us, do you believe we'll keep this player and pass on the PSD - so that its effectively him or Ball?

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
