Three of the latest rumours I have heard regarding MFC trades in and out

1/ Chris Dawes to the dees for pick 18. This is from a reliable source at Big footy - normally gets things right

2/ Ryan Cook has requested a trade from the Pies to the Dees. Rumour has it Brent Stanley also wants to come to the Dees

3/ Simon Buckley was touted as a possible trade option if an attractive deal could be sought

Any thoughts demonlanders??

Anymore Pie rejects we could take? Which 6-7 players do we get rid of to accomodate them and our draft picks?

Dawes for pick 18 is a massive win for collingwood. He is slow, not a great kick and makes poor Decisions. He can take a good mark but for someone his size you would expect that. He has had every opportunity at collingwood to make his mark and has not. 10 games in 3 years in a side desprate for a strong forward is pathetic. He cant even get a kick in the vfl. People saying big forwards take longer to develop, i.e 5 years need to re-assess this bloke. Its not like they just reach 5 years of development and become a star, there are signs from the beginning. Dawes has given us no reason over 3 years to think he will be any good in the future. Keep pick 18 and take panos, should still be around. I would rather take a punt on this kid than some collingwood reject.

To me collingwood are trying to get another pick in the top 20 so as they can go after fev, don't be stupid melbourne and aid there cause.

Having just read the papers and seeing the Jolly deal involves a pick and players, I would imagine these sorts of players will be involved in that deal.

Pies rejects are still rejects.

Would prefer to pick at geelongs rejects than Collingwoods.

There are some good players on the move, keeping picks and players until the last day of trade week is a a better strategy than moving picks and players for Dawes before the dust has settled.

16/5/88, 193kg, 99kg. 2006 Draft Selection No 28. From what I have seen of Dawes he is more a roaming tall than a key position, never seen him take a contested mark. Has played a few good games for the Pies but has spent most of his time playing VFL. His first year at Collingwood was spent recovering from a knee reco the previous year. Collingwood fans seem divided over whether he is a hack or a promising forward who should have got more games ahead of A Rocca.

Buckley I'd keep and hope that he can get his body right. He has explosive turbo speed and can kick long. A player who can break a line and kick it long. Saints could have done with him against the Cats, had no one with turbo speed to receive and jet away from a contest carry it, and kick it long.

Cook and Stanley. Er no thankyou. Positions on the list are precious.

If we could not get TEMEL, Dawes is the ideal type we need to balance our forward line. We need a strong type whom can play a KP role yet roam somewhat. Also can break packs. The only concern ,I have unlike TEMEL, he doesn't seem to be major goal kicker-only kicked 10 goals from 10 games.

Buckley!

Get the best pick you can for him Bails. List clogger! He will not be in the best 22 on our list.

A bit expensive for mine. Make it Dawes for Newton and you have a deal.

That is more like it! I would probably persist with Newton for one more year. Offer them Miller.

I think we need to keep all of our picks. Only trade to improve them or remove list cloggers. I would only accept a player in trade for one of our list cloggers.

Simon Buckley should not be up for trade, This kid has shown good signs, Give him an extended run without injury and we could really unearth a top line mid. As for Collingwoods rejects NO WAY we shouldn't be even talking to them, One reason alone It's Collingwood. We should be using everyone of our picks in the top twenty for ourselves.

I completly agree, Buckley is a much better player than any of the collingwood rejects. Once he improves on the faults in his game, and injury does not occur. He would become a regular 25+ disposal player

As for Dawes. No

I'd be interested in Dawes if the trade were Buckley and 34 for Dawes, 18 is to high for him.

Not interested in Stanley or Cook.

After reading these posts it makes me wonder how many people have seen chris dawes play. I for one enjoy watching him play as he is actually fairly agile for his size from what ive seen in the vfl. He is aggressive and likes the body on body stuff and knows how to out manouvre an opponent one on one which I believe none of our forwards can do. He is exactly what we are after he is young big and well developed in the body. I think some people just dont like him as he is a Collingscum player

Dominating at VFL level equates to jack schitt! Collingwood have been dying to find someone to replace fraser and rocca. If Dawes was a strong player he would have been in that collingwood 2009 side as a regular fixture.

A player for player deal could work if people think he is a chance at making it, but pick 18 is still decent enough to unearth untapped potential that could help us build towards a flag.

Dominating at VFL will not mean you are going to have a successful AFL career.

i rate buckley! why do we want players that can not get a game for the colliwobbles

why do you rate a player that can't get a game for us?

That doesn't mean anything either it could be the coach just doesnt like him. My mate Sam Lonergan from Essendon couldnt get a game under Sheedy purely because he didnt like Sam. Now Matty Knights has come in the only games he has missed have been from injury and the one game suspension he copped.

All I am saying is maybe Malthouse doesn't like Dawes as a player or a bloke. No one knows if a player can be better at another club so why do people slam them without any rational thought

Dawes is a good prospect, will never be a superstar. He's done nothing to warrent a trade for pick 18.

I would trade Miller for him though.

Keep Simon Buckley

Yes is fast but he has too many bad points,he never get the hard ball, if he has an opponent anywhere near the ball he lets it go,and then he does not tackle, unless he is the second man in,he is a receiver,so he needs to be in team like the saints, but at the saints he would be sent back to the vfl, because Lyon does not tolerate that sort of player, he would find himself out the door once, he contract is up.

Who says he wouldnt get a game for us? He was injured all year and showed plenty of promise In 08.

agreed, but the same theory was used for anyone that couldn't get a game for the pies, it doesn't mean they are no good.

i think the argument about not wanting player x "because he can't get a game at his club" is flawed.

A poster on demonology said he heaqrd the following:

Jolly to Pies

rusling or Dawes to Demons

Pia & Brad to Swans?

Any thoughts on losing Brad or Pia?

Personally dont know much about Dawes, but Rusling was meant to be the great white hope for pies, but has been decimated by shoulder injuries........cant be worse than Miller though surely?

Brad seems like an impressive person and leader, but just doesnt dominate games.

would have to be picks involved or the swans are getting bent over.

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the
