Demonland Player of the Year - Round 20

Demonland

Recommended Posts

6. Davey - Very Very good game. One of the most complete games he's played yet. He showed skill, dash, leadership, smarts, it was just a perfect display of what he will hopefully be able to keep up consistently for the next few years

5. Bate - Was really strong today, and brought his teammates into the game well

4. Jones - One of the best games I've seen him play. His kicking was alot better today, and his backing himself to break the lines paid off today

3. Rivers - Was the Rivers of old today, chopping off incoming passes and generally outsmarting his opponents

2. Morton - Was really solid down back again. Maybe he will develop into a mobile rebounding CHB in the Nathan Bock mould? Who knows at this stage! He is really starting to shine, and can be played in so many different positions. He's probably got the most potential of anyone on our list, and it shows. He'll be a star for us!

1. Valenti - He is a terrier. He ha a great hunger for the contest and doesnt let his size worry him at all. Good game by him today and he deserves a spot on a senior list, whether it's ours or not.

Apologies to Dunn, Moloney, Mclean, McDonald, and pretty much everyone else in the team.

Didn't see the game, so I can't give votes but i'd like to comment on this. I see Morton being played as a wandering wing type player. He's shown us that he is a very good defender, he popped up in the forward 50 a few weeks ago and kicked three, and with his engine he could keep running up and down the field all day. Imagine the match-up problem he would present. Do you tell one of your tall defenders to try to stay with him because they can match his size, or do you give the job to a smaller running player who might be able to keep up but could never out mark him. Very much the role that Richo was playing last year when they moved him out of the forward 50 and almost won him a brownlow.

Morton took a couple of great marks deep in defence today, and showed real courage for such a skinny kid. Earlier in the year he was rightly criticized for squibbing a couple of marking contests. Today his courage in running back with the flight was unquestionable. He literally can play anywhere, and i can''t wait until his body fills out to allow him to fill a key post. He's going to be very dangerous!

A Richo/Goodes hybrid. :D

I'd love to see him play as a key forward.

Super impressive marking from Cale "Kate Moss" Morton today. He has strong hands, even if I could snap them in half.

He is such an incredibly smart player, that even in some contests where I thought "he can't physically win this one", he ended up outsmarting his opponent and taking possession. Will be an absolute gun!

Is it just me, or does Jonesy repeatedly make skill errors? He gets the ball really well, but doesn't do himself (or his teammates) with his disposal or tendency to hang onto the ball til he gets caught. My 11 y.o. daughter made the observation that he always make mistakes.

I though Davey was clearly BOG. Bater and Jurrah also good.

Also worried about McLean. Very slow. And when he goes to ground, takes ages to get up and get back in the game.

MacDonald was also ok, but i think he should call it a day at the end of the season.

Robbo, great guy and was a great player, but he too should call it a day. He doesn't look fit.

Frawley was good, Morton OK, Petterd will be a player, Dunn will keep his place and even PJ was ok yesterday.

Brock Mclean having 4-5 bounces in one passage of play, priceless.

I remember that, someone near me yelled out "BROCKIE... WITH PACE!"... LOL

He was doing the treadmill, but no-one went near him, so he kept going.

It's not just you, but to his credit his kicking the last two weeks has seen a real improvement.

He is finally lowering his eyes and hitting guys with slicing passes straight on the chest. Very pleasing to see, and could be the result of playing under less pressure than normal, but at least we know he is capable of such disposal quality.

He was doing the treadmill, but no-one went near him, so he kept going.

Not to harp on about the fitness thing again, but he seemed a lot better for the two weeks rest. He was refreshed and bouncing around with a lot more power in the legs.

Then some Freo toolbag dropped him in the tackle and slammed him into the ground (where the hell was the free? ) and he was limping a bit afterwards. I guess it's not a good Brocky game if there is no injury involved (yesterday there was blood too, so a complete game from him :D)

I don't like the weighted system.
I agree. You could have played 5 decent games in losses and had an average game in a win. Yet some player who had been average in those losses all of the sudden plays a blinder in a big win and yet scores more points overall.

I'm wondering whether we scrap the weighting system, and replace it with a different one next year. For example, you could take votes the same way as we currently do (5-4-3-2-1), still pick 3 sets of votes randomly, then add up each player's votes from each person and divide by 3. Keeps the votes tighter so that one player doesn't balloon out like Davey did this week as a result of a massive win. Anyone else think that's any good?

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an

    ALAS SPRINGS by Whispering Jack

I got the word on Saturday from someone who knows someone inside the Fremantle camp that the Dockers were pumped and supremely confident about getting the W the next day against Melbourne at TIO Traeger Park in the red heart of the country. I was informed that the Dockers were extremely confident for a number of reasons. They had beaten the Demons on their home territory at the MCG at their last two meetings so they didn’t see beating them at Alice Springs as a problem. They belie

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,
