Jack Grimes

Grimes went out and played like most supporters wished they could on such a big occasion for Jimmy............it was like he had grown up watching Jimmys career, and genuinely wanted to go out there and honour him!

He is an absolute cracker...............for the time being, forget Jack Watts........it Grimes time!

Does Jack Grimes get a trip to the Brownlow this year?

That game should see him finishing as a top 5 vote getter for us.

Must say when i heard he re-injured his back at the start of the season I was very unhappy - so glad to see the young fella become so important to the team so quickly. He looks selfless, commited and skilled - exactly what this team needs - and a Melbourne supporter - this kid knows what it means to be a Demon.

Like me, I know you're not his biggest fan, but you'd think Bruce would get an invite, wouldn't he?

Did anyone hear DB talking about Jack Grimes on Footy gameday?

He said they want to eventually get him into the midfield.

Obviously. He was drafted as a midfielder.

You'll find alot of young midfielders start off as running backs.

And that is precisely why, a few errors here and there, are nothing to worry about

...and that's why I never said the errors were a major concern - just disagreed that his disposal v Essendon and Brisbane was 'very good' :)

Can't wait to see what he can do without injury set-backs, with more experience and physical development and when playing on the ball. That is a very good thought!

Absolutely. He's very promising.

Haven't been so excited about a young mid since Scott T.

If he doesn't get the nomination this week there is something very, very wrong. Solid games all year and then BOG in a winning side........

HE WILL GET IT!

On Jack's profile page on melbournefc.com.au under the 'news and video' tab, it is reporting that he has won the Round 14 Rising Star Nomination,

'Lifelong Demon a Rising Star.'

Jack Grimes helped Melbourne record only its second win of the season and in the process earned a rising star nomination.......

If you click on it, currently it doesn't link to the full article. I'm guessing by the time most of you read this in the morning, the link will work.

Congrats Jack.

He won't though.

The criteria is maddeningly inconsistent and vague.

Last week Callan Ward for the doggies had 33 touches and was a driving force in their win, but instead it was given to Aaron Joseph who had 19 touches.

Bit like Jarryn Geary winning it a few weeks back with 17 touches when Jack had 25 odd.

Can't believe a system is so vague and undefined yet they allow betting on it.

Got $20 on Rich at 14-1 though to make up for the $20 I put on Grimes.

Grimes at 31-1 that is. Yeeewww! Looks like i'll be buying the beers come the end of the season

If only I had the cash at the time to put a couple of hunj on like I wanted...

If there was fairness he should probably win, but I can't see them going past Rich - it's so media dominated.

Mind you, maybe they'll go against it to create a surprise/interest lest the award cease to exist next season.

A couple of Friday night games would be handy for Grimes. Extra media exposure. Still, if he keeps playing the way he's playing, they will have to take notice. Don't worry about that.

Wasn't there also a stat about the previous winners and how they'd all played at least 20 matches in the season?

Grimes' average looks good, but they will probably, and fairly, take into account Rich winning his own ball in the middle of a top 8 bound midfield.

Too early to be talking about winners I think, but if Rich slumps and Grimes continues (keep in mind he's been playing on some of the opposition's best players all season) he'd have to be a chance.

In a way I wouldn't mind him slipping under the radar a bit. Sure, if he played for teams beloved of commentators, they'd be singing his praises loud & long. But we all know how good he is, the FD know how good he is, his teammates know how good he is. In a defence that's been under siege for just about the whole of the game time in his career so far, he plays like someone with 208 games, except that he'll get even better over his next 20 or 30. So if whoever decides these things isn't smart enough to recognise his quality, compared to Rich or whoever else, that's their problem not his or ours.

They wont give the Rising Star to a Melbourne player, no matter how well young Jack plays for the rest of the season.

Harsh but its reality.

Ok. But what makes you think they'd never give it to a Melb player?

Rivers won it a few years back. Davey even came second.

A few years ago, yes. We weren't a wreck at the bottom then.

There would be a media outcry if a Melbourne player won the award and I also suggest the judges will take into account our poor finish. I just can't see the award going to Grimes, I dont think the AFL will let this happen.

TBH I think Rich deserves it at the moment.

Doesn't mean Grimes won't be a better player in the long run - which is the important thing.

HEAVEN OR HELL by The Oracle

Clashes between Melbourne and St Kilda are often described as battles between the forces of heaven and hell. However, based on recent performances, it’s hard to get excited about the forthcoming match between these two sides. It would be fair to say that, at the moment, both of these teams are in the doldrums. The Demons have become the competition’s slow starters while the Saints are not only slow to begin, they’re not doing much of a job finishing off their games either. About the only th

    THE BLOW by Whispering Jack

Narrm’s finals prospects took a crushing blow after the team’s insipid performance at Optus Stadium against a confident Waaljit Marawar in the first of its Doug Nicholls Round outings for 2024.  I use the description “crushing blow” advisedly because, although the season is not yet at it’s halfway mark, the Demons have now failed abysmally in two of their games against teams currently occupying bottom eight places on the ladder.  The manner in which these losing games were played out w

HALF FULL by KC from Casey

It was a case of the Casey Demons going into a game with a glass half full in their match up against the Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields on Saturday. As the list of injured and unavailable AFL and VFL listed players continues to grow and with Melbourne taking all three emergencies to Perth for the weekend on a “just in case” basis, its little brother was always destined to struggle. Casey was left with only eight AFL listed players from who to select their team but only two - an out-of-form

GAMEDAY: Rd 10 vs West Coast

It's Game Day and the Demons have returned to the site of their drought breaking Premiership to take on the West Coast Eagles in what could very well be a danger game for Narrm at Optus Stadium. A win and a percentage boost will keep the Dees in top four contention whilst a loss will cast doubt on the Dees flag credentials and bring them back to the pack fighting for a spot in the 8 as we fast approach the halfway point of the season.

    WARNING by William from Waalitj

As a long term resident of Waalitj Marawar, I am moved to warn my fellow Narrm fans that a  danger game awaits. The locals are no longer the easybeats who stumbled, fumbled and bumbled their way to the good fortune of gathering the number one draft pick and a generational player in Harley Reid last year. They are definitely better than they were then.   Young Harley has already proven his worth with some stellar performances for a first year kid playing among men. He’s taken hangers, k
