Did he play alongside Farmer at all?

I can imagine how great a fwd line of Lyon, Farmer and Jakovich would be! and then throw in Neitz.

...and Ox and Kozzi and Jurrah 😮

If Oliver can add say 10 more goals a season to his performance and get his handball to kick ratio around 50/50 I think he goes close to one of the best of all time.

Remember his opposition is now at a much higher level than those who we normally think of as the best.

His handballs to advantage are sublime. Would like to hear what people think of his kicking to advanatge

Greg Wells very under rated.

Didn’t he play for Carlton 🤪?

2nd in the Brownlow playing for MFC in a poor side. Only went to Carlton at the very end of his career.

As of no players still playing.

Robert Flower.

Allen Jakovich.

David Schwarz.

David Neitz.

Jeffery Farmer.

Personally believe that Clayton Oliver is the Best Melbourne Football Club Player to have ever pulled on the Red and Blue Jumper.

Not an awful kick, I think at least above average. However he lacks consistency, if he can fix that he'll be a very damaging player for the opposition.

If he's not, then he's incredibly close. Consistency king, mr contested ball. Easy to take for granted these days.

Lacks Consistency Really ??

So 33 35 29 30 36 27 oh and 24 plus 37 34 disposals averaging more than 30 per season Refer to Clarry's Champion figures if you want to see consistency.
G.d help your judgement of other players

Don't get me wrong I love Clarry as much as the next guy, however his kicking can be off sometimes and it is not as damaging as Petracca's ( IMO ).

Still an elite player and deserves a Brownlow medal.

He suffered from back injuries.  He went to work on fishing boats in the Gulf of Carpentaria where the beer, wild women and fishing is.  He came back the next year and was drafted by the Bullies but only played a handful of games.

Probably just wasted the rest of his time.

Do we have two Olivers running around?

What a question,   its like asking Does my bum look big in this dress,   there is not a good answer,

or which child is my favorite

or when did you stop beating your wife, stupid question, she is better than me at most things, so she beats me usually, arithmetic excluded.  Come on Dees 5 goals in the last quarter, 30 point win

I was asked this question once.  Apparently you're supposed to nominate one of your own.

Lacks consistency? Never plays a bad game. A true champion. Already a most damaging player in AFL and has been for years.

Might be wrong but I think Eldiablo meant he lacks consistency with his general foot skills.

Incredible amount of love for Schwarz and Jakovich in this thread, amazing given that both of them had very short periods at their peak, due to injury. But I’m not disagreeing!

Oliver

Flower

Barassi

Schwarz

Lyon

But also Brett Lovett (cool as ice)

I am talking about his kicking only, re previous post. I am being persecuted for thinking he can improve his kicking 🤷🏻‍♂️🙄

Fair enough mate. I did think you meant his overall play. Sorry.

Loved these guys as well,

you need to be a certain age to have watched Robbie or the Ox.
the light in the tunnel was a train after he did his knee the second time. When he came back after the third we were a bit better. Or is my memory a bit wrong.

Ox had a successful comeback from the knee recos but if you didn't get a chance to see him play before them then you really missed out.

His agility pre injury was something that had to be seen to be belived. It was probably his no.1 attritlbute and for a 195cm guy that notion is absured but he really did move like a midfielder.

  • NON-MFC: 2026 Opening Round

Finally the 2026 AFL Premiership Season is upon us. While Melbourne sits out Opening Round, there is still plenty of footy to enjoy with five non-MFC clashes to kick off the new season. It all begins on Thursday night with a blockbuster at the SCG as Sydney hosts Carlton in what should be a strong early test for both sides. On Friday night, Gold Coast gets its chance to open the season in front of a home crowd when the Suns and Christian Petracca take on Geelong at People First Stadium. Saturday features a double-header, starting in the afternoon with Greater Western Sydney and Clayton Oliver meeting the Hawks at Engie Stadium. That is followed on Saturday night by Brisbane Lions hosting the Western Bulldogs at the Gabba, with the Lions embarking on their campaign to win the Threepeat. Opening Round wraps up on Sunday night at the MCG, where St Kilda takes on Collingwood in the only game in town in the first week of the season. There is no shortage of storylines across the round, so discuss all the action from the non-MFC games of Opening Round.

  • PREGAME: St. Kilda

With just over two weeks until their opening match of the 2026 AFL Premiership season, the Demons are already well on the path to redemption and have the Saints firmly in their sights ahead of their mid-March clash at the MCG. What do you think the team will look like when they run out on to the G?

  • REPORT: Richmond

Mars is not usually a place known for lighting strikes but on Friday evening it happened twice in the vicinity of the stadium in Ballarat that carries the name and is a half completed building site with limited capacity for spectators.

  • POSTGAME: Richmond

The Dees ran another clinic for the second week in a row as they easily accounted for the Tigers in the lightning interrupted shortened match at Mars Stadium in Ballarat.

It's Game Day and the 2026 AFL Premiership season is almost upon us as the Demons take to the field for their final practice match before the first ball is kicked in anger in 16 days time. What are you expecting to see from the Dees today as they take on the Tigers at Mars Stadium in Ballarat?
