I say YES

After some good form in the VFL and another 2 tall defenders going down, now seems as good a time as any to give Tommy Mac a run in the backline.

Let him show what he's got.

NB good time as any against the doggies too, no big strong dominating forwards to crush his spirit

I liked the look of him in that Scorps vs. Tigers game, thought he was one of our best, so i hope he gets a run this week.

Nasher just had him on his delistings in that thread, but i think he still very youg as he was the youngest taken in the draft a couple of years back.

i think he is younger than valenti and jetta...nasher i think was wrong to suggest a delisting

If he does not play AFL this year and play well he will be delisted.

And where would we be if we had taken that stance with Frawley.

He was drafted as a 17 year old and you want to delist him after 2 years?

Stupid comparison.

Frawley was a high draft pick and had/has PACE, SIZE and STRENGTH.

Cheney was not a high draft pick and his only attribute is he is hard at the footy. He is not tall and he is not quick.

I don't know about ready to step up, since we haven't seen him yet. I think he's ready to be given a chance at AFL level though.

Tom looked the goods against the Crowbar Tigers, this week looks a good opportunity to blood him.

Cheney? I was refering to McNamara.

Anyway draft selections aside, I would have thought that you would give a tallish defender a bit longer that 2 years to develop?

mcnamara was taken as a bottom age player (the youngest in the draft) who was expected to be a top draft pick the following year. he is a project player who is only the same age as a first year draftee this year. he has shown good form at vfl level, and appears to have lots of ability.

why wouldn't he get a chane to show that?

Add to that the fact that Emma Quayle rated him as the 25th best prospect in the 2007 draft (albeit she did name him 'smokey' of sorts).

This week is as good a time as any to give McNamara a go.

Man. What if we have Garland, Martin, McNamara, Rivers, Frawley and Warnock all deserving places in the side? If McNamara plays like Martin did in his firs dozen games then there's going to be some difficult decisions to make. I'm all for depth, but jeez.

Martin can play forward to add some size, strength, pace, skill and smarts to our forward line which may also boast Watts, Jurrah and Butcher. Unstoppable!

Couldn't agree more, with Rivers & Frawley out I would expect him to be given an opportunity as early as this week.

Bailey said a week or so ago that he was in the mix for selection, hes been in the best for the past few matches.

From what I've seen, he is footy smart and reads the play very well.

Digga, sorry mate but he won't be delisted if he doesn't play a game this season... considering we have kept players like newton on the list for longer with only glimpses of potential.

Hes a young key position player who needs time, draft position means nothing once they are in the system other than the expectation that is placed on them by us and the media.

Yep, bring him in!

On recent form, and with the injuries to key defenders Rivers, Frawley and Garland, you'd think his inclusion this week is close to certain.

I hope they play him, he was really impressive against Coburg, and his last 2 weeks prior to that he was in or close to in the bests. He's ready for a taste of senior footy.

McNamara turned 19 in April.

He's a baby.

And Digga, don't get passive aggressive, you are talking about Cheney in a thread called "McNamara."

People are going to get confused...

I was one, until I read yours, cheers.

If McNamara can come in and impress, we'll have good depth for down back, if that's his intended path: -

Whelan, Wheatley, Buckley, Bell, Martin, Warnock, Garland, Martin, Cheney, McNamara, Rivers, Bennell, Frawley,...am I forgetting anyone.

Of course the likes of Bartram, MacDonald, Bruce, Green, Dunn, Sylvia have filtered through the back half at some stage too.

13 into 6 don't go. But I like this combo at the moment: -

BACKS: - Rivers Warnock Bennell

H-BACKS: - Frawley Garland Martin

;)

In a thread entitled 'McNamara'...

i think he is younger than valenti and jetta...nasher i think was wrong to suggest a delisting

you said:

And where would we be if we had taken that stance with Frawley.

He was drafted as a 17 year old and you want to delist him after 2 years?

you then changed to start talking about cheney:

Stupid comparison.

Frawley was a high draft pick and had/has PACE, SIZE and STRENGTH.

Cheney was not a high draft pick and his only attribute is he is hard at the footy. He is not tall and he is not quick.

so my response:

mcnamara was taken as a bottom age player (the youngest in the draft) who was expected to be a top draft pick the following year. he is a project player who is only the same age as a first year draftee this year. he has shown good form at vfl level, and appears to have lots of ability.

why wouldn't he get a chane to show that?

is quite understandable.

If you were talking about this sentence well i was not talking about Mcnamara.

what world are you in? maybe you are just having trouble following the conversation, because you suddenly stopped talking about mcnamara and started talking about cheney as if they were the same person.

for the record, both players are in their second year at the club, mcnamara has just turned 19, and cheney turns 20 at the end of the year. why would we delist either in their second year on the list? what is the point in taking them if we are not prepared to give them a chance to develop?

    EASYBEATS by Meggs

A beautiful sunny Friday afternoon, with a light breeze and a strong Windy Hill crowd set the scene, inviting one team to seize the day and take the important four points on offer. For the Demons it was not a good Friday, easily beaten by an all-time largest losing margin of 65 points.   Essendon threw themselves into action today, winning most of the contests and had three early goals with Daria Bannister on fire.  In contrast the Demons were dropping marks, hesitant in close and comm

    DEFUSE THE BOMBERS by Meggs

Last Saturday’s crushing loss to Fremantle, after being three goals ahead at three quarter time, should be motivation enough to bounce back for this very winnable Round 5 clash at Windy Hill. A first-time venue for the Melbourne AFLW team, this should be a familiar suburban, windy, footy environment for the players.   Essendon were brave and competitive last week against ladder leader Adelaide at Sturt’s home ground. A familiar name, Maddison Gay, was the Bombers best player with

    BLOW THE SIREN by Meggs

Fremantle hosted the Demons on a sunny 20-degree Saturdayafternoon winning the toss and electing to defend in the first quarter against the 3-goal breeze favouring the Parry Street end. There was method here, as this would give the comeback queens, the Dockers, last use of the breeze. The Melbourne Coach had promised an improved performance, and we did start better than previous weeks, winning the ball out of the middle, using the breeze advantage and connecting to the forwards.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.
