While the junk-food eating isn't a massive worry, I'm sure that if you looked hard enough you'll find numerous photographic evidence of some of our players drinking excessively, and yes, even smoking.

That is a much bigger worry, and still, it happens all the time at all football clubs.

Michael Phelps diet

Don't think his diet impacted on his ability to win a bucketload of gold medals.

The Phelps diet is not recommended for everyone. Due to his muscle-intensive physique, the swimmer's metabolism - the process of converting food into energy - far exceeds that of a more average man

It's not that bad, Jarod Waite mentioned on game day yesterday that his addiction is chips with gravy, has it 3 or 4 times a week.

A number of our players apparently had not eaten yet, and made use of the catering facilities available at the MCG. Hot dogs, pies, chips, soft drink - I saw them, being consumed by our boys who should be making better choices than that. Wonaeamirri had a Coke Zero, Jetta had a Coke Zero and a chocolate bar, Zomer had chips, but worst of all was Simon Buckley. He had a pie and chips, and anyone who has had chips before at the MCG would be aware of the generous serving size.

That part made me LOL

Not just a pie, but a pie AND chips!!

I recall a story of Olympic rowers who were competing against each other in the Maccas board challenge. Once a week after training they would go to Maccas to see if they could eat one of everything on the board, if I recall one of them was part of the awesome 4-some...

I remember reading an article about Judd soon after he joined Carl$n.

After a training session he was walking across the street and noticed the young crew Gibbs, Murphy & Co. eating junk food and he totally ripped through them about it.

Explaining that if they wanted to compete at the elite level required to win finals footy they simply can't eat Shite like that, saying that he wouldn't accept it.

Maybe it's the nutrition plan set for them to ensure no more than 4 wins........ :o

As far as the Phelps diet goes, looking at his 2008 swimming results the longest individual event took 4 minutes with most of them taking less than 2 minutes, while he is an elite athlete he is hardly an elite endurance athlete like AFL players. He would be dead way before time on in the first quarter

If you look at the fastest land animals that eat meat, they have a quick burst of speed but then have to sleep all day, the vegetarians can run all day and migrate thousands of miles (and they somehow manage to do it without Powerade :lol: manufactured by Coke edit: comment not related to Wona but to the sport drink industry)

Phelps succeeds despite his diet, not because of it and his arteries are probably building up with cholesterol already (this won't show up for years as the first sign of heart disease is usually death later in life). And no, exercise no matter how much of it is done, does not reduce cholesterol build up, only time in conjunction with low cholesterol intake can do that

And as for the marketing bunkum of moderation, if you want a diet of all things in moderation then be also happy with all illnesses in moderation too

Firstly, I'd challenge your assertion that Phelps isn't an elite endurance athlete. Swimmers train for hours on end, swimming lap after lap. We've seen individual swimmers compete at distances ranging from 50m to 1500m, which doesn't occur in athletics. So thanks for your zoology lesson, but it's irrelevant.

And are you suggesting that occasional consumption of junk food leads to illness, regardless of whether you're an elite athlete? Hmm, I'll have to rethink my dietary habits over my bacon and eggs.

Norm Smith will be turning in his grave Knowing the boys ate Pies & Chips...AND A COKE!!!!! Oh no.

What a Joke! Michael Phelps ripped into a weeks worth of food each day & Burnt it all off (and don't say he wasn't an endurance athlete please-some days he swam 2-3 times a day.) Phelps won 8 Gold Medals. count 'em.

Let the Boys enjoy a day at the Footy. I am sure they will be training early the next morning while we are all still sleeping.

I don't agree that elite level players should over indulge on junk food.

BUT you can't expect them to take a fresh salad to the footy either.

    Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft.
