Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

It's the $50 MFC / MCC membership.

If you are a member of the MCC you can have the option of purchasing a $50 package which is officially an MFC membership as well or a regular $130 ish membership.

I have gone the $50 option as money is a big tighter this year but it still shows support for the club.

Plus i love the Grey Smith Bar!

bloody hell! 4 of the pies at that bar would pay for the deluxe membership!

Rang the club this afternoon and organised to renew my membership.....

On top of that, I have signed up my 10 week old son for the first of many memberships with our beloved club.....

Really starting to get excited about where the club is heading.....

GO Dees :P

It will depend upon the actual mix of member types against what was budgeted and not just the overall membership numbers.

Whilst people are getting excited by our membership tally, we actually generated the lowest revenue from memberships of all clubs last season. This would be attributed to the increase number of MCC/MFC members due to the affordability of the package. So the type of membership is more important to the club's coffers than just the numbers.

And I don't see why people deride Hawthorn members for signing up their cats and dogs, because in dollar terms, they contribute more to the club than the MCC/MFC members. BTW, I'm not having a dig at the MCC/MFC members, because your contribution is a donation in addition to your MCC subs.

Fair point on all accounts. Did we generate lower revenue from memberships than Brisbane last season, who I think had fewer members?

It's not the signiong of the cats etc, it just over inflated how many actual members they had

Came across this on BigFooty which shows our unique situation.

Interesting to see the latest breakdown of AFL clubs supported by MCC members published in the November MCC Newsletter

Melbourne 21%

Essendon 13%

Collingwood 11%

Carlton 9%

Hawthorn 8%

Richmond7%

Geelong 7%

St Kilda 5%

Kangaroos 3%

Sydney 2% maybe 3%

Western Bulldogs 2%maybe 3%

Brisbane 2%

No club listed 8%

----------------- = 98% or close to 100%

West Coast

Adelaide

Port Adelaide

Fremantle fewer than 1% each and in total

With the cost of membership ranging roughly from $400-600 a year, you can understand why MCC Demons fans don't chip in that extra cost to cover a full membership. They already get what they pay for in their regular MCC membership and that's why the move back into the MCC is important.

If we can tap into that well of Dees fans who are members then automatically our membership would increase from our level of about 29,000 to high 30's or even low 40's. We have to offer something unique to these supporters to give them incentive to part with more cash and i feel that the the Club when they come back into the fold offer a $100 MCC only membership which would include things like:

An MCC memebrs only night with the club. Meet the players etc.

A special MCC/MFC pin or tie.

Just some ideas for the future. I have more but the company boss is in town so it's time to minimise my screen!

Go Dees!!!

Agree.

The other point that is relevant in the membership mix is how much marginal benefit is derived by the Club beyond the membership numbers. For example how much does each member spend on merchandising and entertainment while at or connected with the football where all or part of the revenue stream flows to the Club.

I suspect that multiplier effect is smaller for MFC than other Clubs.

TheOx5, this has been discussed many times through various threads. Just to give a balanced view there are many MCC Demons who do chip in extra or buy full Mfc memberships. Just making sure MCC Demons fans aren't viewed as non-mfc members....

However, I imagine there would still be some that are solely MCC.

When you say "we have to offer something unique" , you offer good suggestions. However, there is already a MCC/MFC membership as well as the renewed ties and financial acknowledgment by the MCC to the MFC prior to Christmas along with the AFL.

Agree.

I have no doubt merchandise purchased by opposition clubs was far greater than that purchased by Melbourne members and supporters last season. Would have been a massive blow to the club, as we already know.

When we shamshed our way through 25,000 did we break the tally counter

Wait until 30,000........

I think this has been a longer term issue for MFC.

I agree that the $50 MFC/MCC membership is too low to ensure the future of the club.

But what it does do is get these people on the books so that they can be contacted in the future and coaxed into the $160 MFC/MCC membership or the full membership once their finances allow it.

Correct. Its important to at least create a link and connection with these supporters than have none at all.

True. But my point is last season would have been a 'significant hit to the rib cage', and the bottom line due to poor onfield performance.

I doubt it.

Given its a perennial problem, they would not have budgeted too much from such merchandising last year. Its a hit but not a significant one compared to some of the bigger ticket issues.

Yeah, it's 25,691

Gee, that was a rather good jump from 25,006 - Up 685 from Sunday/Monday. Probably on the back of Kaspersky Lab announcement. Either that or its the start of the season. Or both.

A win over the Kangaroos will be a great boost for membership heading into Rd 2 v Collingwood. Go Dees!

Its a good effort considering all three sides you mention have played finals for the past two years and are creating expectations that they will be challenging the Cats and the Hawks this year.

I knew the North membership figures last year were swelled by a one off can rattle that could not be perpetuated

Good on the MFC for updating the website so regularly. It's like a sport of it's own.

Here, here. One of the many discussions that took place at the SUMMIT last year. An improved website with regular updates.

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n
