Tomorrow is the day upon which delisted players must nominate if they are to feature in the NAB AFL Draft on November 29.

Wednesday 19 November (2.00pm) - DELISTED PLAYERS NOMINATE

The alternative is that such players could opt to nominate instead for the pre-season draft on December 16.

In the latter case, it's important for Melbourne because we have pick 1 in the PSD. I suspect that a lot of players who might have nominated in the past for the PSD only will now try their luck in the national draft and that the PSD is going to become even more meaningless and irrelevant than ever.

According to the AFL website Ben Cousins was given the choice today by the AFL Commission to nominate for either draft and it will be interesting to see what he and others like Chris Johnson and Tom Hislop chose to do and if these players end up at the clubs they favour at the moment.

I think that's the point. Once upon a time the club with pick 1 in the PSD had a big advantage at draft time because it held this trump card which could enable it to get an extra quality footballer. Among other things, changes to the rules by the AFL, have emasculated this choice to the point where it's virtually worthless.

If a team like Collingwood or Essendon was in this position right now, you'd find they would be making submissions to the AFL for some sort of special consideration as a result of the changed circumstances. Unfortunatley, we have other battles to fight and might not do anything about it.

The delisted player who has caused the most amount of interest this year is Chris Johnson.

Irony is a bitch

Apologies to High Tower and others who want to be rid of threads involving Nathan Carroll and CJ but here's an interesting article from the AFL website - Carroll heads draft nominees

"Carroll is one of the 43 delisted players who launched their draft nominations ahead of Wednesday's 2pm deadline.

One of the players not on the list is former Fremantle midfielder Josh Carr. Carr has been in training with his former club Port Adelaide and could still be picked up in the pre-season draft.

The same applies to ex-Demon Paul Johnson who has been in pre-season training with Carlton."

There's an idiot at the AFL who can't tell the difference between loyal Demon Paul Johnson and the other fellow. Ah well ...

Here's the list of players who have nominated for the national draft, to be held on Saturday November 29.

Steven Armstrong (West Coast)

Clinton Benjamin (Carlton)

Greg Bentley (Port Adelaide)

Luke Blackwell (Carlton)

Please tell me one good reason Cousins should be exempt from the same timeframe as everybody else?

Uhh... because he only found out that he was allowed to nominate AFTER the normal deadline for nominations, not to mention he's been given a whole host of bizarre compliance requirements to consider before making his decision.

Seriously, it'd make anyone re-think their career if it involved having someone watch you [censored] three times a week.

I would take Hislop but the fact that he nominated for this draft and not the PSD suggests we're not interested.

Rather I would suggest that he is not interested. I see his nomination as a tactic perhaps to be used by the Bombers to get him back or some other side.

hawks possibly. but i agree with you

Tim Clarke (Hawthorn)

Jason Davenport (Geelong)

Chris Egan (Collingwood)

Tom Hislop (Essendon)

Kris Massie (Adelaide)

Matthew Moody (Brisbane Lions)

These are the only players in my opinion that should be drafted IF melbourne want to go down the road of getting ex players. I think they should draft a player who hasnt played afl, vfl before and get a kid though. For me Moody and Clarke are the best there however the above players i wouldnt mind getting if melbourne wants to go down that road

Clarke could be alright as a filler player in that 25-28 age bracket where you only have a couple of players.

Has his best couple of years of footy ahead of him and his training/work ethic is close to the best in the business.

Would be good for a couple of years then give him the arse if you're about to have a fair dinkum tilt at the flag

I thought Danny Meyer would be decent when he was drafted, but something has happened along the way...

get the feeling either us or Port Adelaide are a chance to take him in the PSD.

Exactly right. Probably got an exemption for a wax appointment.

IMO the player with the most talent in that list is Nick Davis (besides Cousins)

When the Club has stated that it is focussed on rebulding the list through youth why we would take a 25 to 28 filler player?

And if he is not seen as part of any real tilt at success why would you bother with him?

The age bracket problem will disappear as our junior players mature and step up.

Leaving the "other" guy out as enough has been said in other threads.

I have always rated both Luke Jericho, Kris Massie from Adelaide for some reason but lets face it a lge forward could be handy for a couple of years until Watts comes on as a key position player. So by this logic even though both of these guys have not done much might be worth a look for PSD or our last pick in nat.

Courtney Johns,

Aisake O'hAilpin,

And a very short list of talent.

Take a punt on a kid FFS.

Yeah it's mystifying to me too why Luke Hodge, Gary Ablett and Adam Cooney aren't on the list

    TRAINING: Monday 16th December 2024

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
