they offered their last pick in the 100's....

that is an insult but then again, something would have been better than nothing....

number 17 can be handed onto one of our future young guns - ah brett lovett!!

It's probably as much, if not more, an insult to Johnson himself than to the Melbourne Football Club but I think it probably went over the kid's head.

I understand where you are coming from HT but I would like to believe that footy first and foremost is a sport based around passion rather than primarily a workplace.

i agree, whoever said that most of the players would support johnson in his move obviously doesnt get. I can assure you the player my friend spoke to made it pretty clear the players were furious with him....as you would expect....thats what team sports are all about......no matter what level....

After viewing a 'youtube' clip of Chris Johnson from a deluded Carlton supporter, I've changed my view of CJ leaving. The highlights (of his 2 career best games V Brisbane and WB this year) are laced with clangers and turnover. He has a very poor habit of turning the ball over with 15 metre chips.

I'm surprised the video didn't contain that complete 'muff up' against North in round 4 when instead of having a ping for goal on the run from 50, he made a beautiful 20 meter pass straight to a stunned North defender.

If Carlton are basing their defense around this guy, then perhaps their future isn't that bright after all.

I'm willing to bet large sums of money that he plays more than 50% of games in the VFL next year. CJ doesn't warrant a 2 year contract.

5 pages on Chris Johnson!

So what - do you think there is something more worthy of discussion right now?

This whole issue has been taken way too casually if anything

5 pages indeed. We need this information for future analysis of CJ's form, and who are the forum [censored], or who are the wisest and most knowledgable. You can't do that on a paper napkin.

Read it and weep!

He's irrelevant because the bottom 6 in our 22 have never been the problem and that's where he sits at best.

We extend out to around 30 players capable of playing football - our problem (as mentioned in the best 22 thread) is that our best 6 are sub-standard. We need stars and hopefully we going to get some out of the 2007-9 drafts.

3 years ago Young, Guerra, Osborne, Ladson and Campbell weren't looking like premiership players - they're interchangeable with our bottom 6 and it's the Hawks top 6 that make the difference.

You definitely have a point, but I think Young, Guerra, Osborne, Ladson and Campbell are still quite a bit better than our bottom 6. AT THIS STAGE.

You wouldn't have said that 3 years ago when Hawthorn didn't have established stars in Hodge, Franklin and Roughhead. They were all fringe players.

The point that old55 makes is spot on.

yeah, I take it back, that makes him dead right.

Look the counter-argument to mine is that 3 yaers ago Bateman and Sewell didn't look like key players in the premiership either. Chris Johnson is not irrelevant if he's one of them.

Yes that's all true, but I would argue that if CJ is better than the 25th player in our squad, then someone inferior is running around out there on match day and our side is just a bit weaker, then indeed we have lost something... do you see what I mean?

Also everyone is saying how rubbish he is, but nobody was saying that when he had 33 touches in our win over the Lions - our only REAL win for the year. He also played a number of good games consistently around this period before getting injured.

So how do people think CJ will play against us? Grgic played a good game against us when we next met. Come to think of it, there's something I find quite similar about those 2 players - except Grgic was better.

God im a doughnut! I realised while i was at work today what i had posted! I was trying to work out who C.J's direct opponent was against the lions, went to their website and somehow convinced myself he was going to them!

Others have corrected you on this.

You should avoid the rumour mills and get closer to the actual facts. FWIW, 70 to 80 is optimistic where he is at given his management hocked him for a month to all other Clubs and did not get a bite. Carlton have illustrated his actual "worth".

Overall, its a pity that a thread on Dean Bailey has been sidetracked to another thread on CJ. Gee I cant wait to the real season comes around

Never has so much been written about a player who has been so ordinary.

Lets move on.

Oh I don't know.. It could be because he is a young individual drafted by MFC, as well under father-son rule, and has had 4 years or so of expense and development shovelled into him. Showed a 'glimpse' later this season? Voted in this forum in top six players in quite a few matches.

Will this kind of outcome, ie lost for no return, continue in future with our young recruits?

Will Carlton continue to be allowed by Vlad to rape and pillage and supplement their cap through suspect means?

Could be worth another page or so... <_<

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
