Rivers - trade or keep

Tough one this. A favourite son, BUT we have had bugger all from him for 2 yrs.

Another topic suggests there are clubs who would trade for him.

Thoughts? And how much would we want.

For me; trade = yes (sadly); how much = 2nd round pick.

definitly keep. He needs a full pre-season, which he wont get cos he's on modified to start with, but if his groin/abdomen/adductor/whatever is wrong has been fixed with this radicul treatment he went to get done in adeliade. then him along with stef and matty warnock could prove to be a potent backline- i still reckon col should stay down there, not big enoughfor a key forward role

How does this make the team better? We finished dead last, and we've got threads here about trading away our two best players for magic beans. Sure, everyone can be traded, but if we don't get the trading right now and get bent over completely, you might as well shut the club down.

So for the next 5 years we can keep using the same excuse for losing "we've got the youngest list, what more do people expect".

Trading proven players for untried 2nd round draft picks is ridiculous. Rivers has finally got some bigger bodied defenders around him, and is the perfect foil for Garland, Martin and Warnock.

If Rivers is a crock, others clubs will do the necessary medical checks before handing over a 2nd round pick.

His body will hold up in 2009 & you will all remember exactly what The Boy means to our structure.

Keep.

Some supporters have memories like goldfish - Apologies to any goldfish swimming around Demonland.

If he can get his body right we will once again again have the services of one of the best footy brains in the AFL. And as others have correctly pointed out with the development of Garland, Martin and Warnock he will be able to play on a flank.

Very much worth the gamble.

No. keep him down back

let him ge tthrough the pre season. the club will be weary and want to take it slow like with robbo's injury, and make sure he is 100% when he comes back. and bring him back thro slowly with low gametime increasing each week

The club isn't keen to lose him for not much and see him become someone they hope he can become.

The value isn't there for Rivers in the trade market, we are better off keeping him, getting his body right and playing him in a back pocket. Martin at FB and Garland at CHB.

Imagine Rivers playing on the 3rd or 4th forward, or playing loose, more value than pick 30ish.

    GAMEDAY: Rd 16 vs Brisbane

It's Game Day and the Dees are deep in the heart of enemy territory as they take on the Lions in Brisbane under the Friday Night Lights at the Gabba. Will the Demon finally be awakened and the season get back on track or will they meekly be sacrificed like lambs to the slaughter?

    UNBACKABLE by The Oracle

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi

    WILDCARDS by KC from Casey

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last

    LIFE SUPPORT by Whispering Jack

With Melbourne’s season hanging on a thread, Saturday night’s game against North Melbourne unfolded like a scene in a hospital emergency department.  The patient presented to the ward in a bad way. Doctors and nurses pumped life-saving medication into his body and, in the ensuing half hour, he responded with blood returning to his cheeks as he stirred back to life. After a slight relapse, the nurses pumped further medication into the bloodstream and the prognosis started looking good as the

GAMEDAY: Rd 15 vs North Melbourne

It's Game Day and it very well could be the last roll of the dice for the Demon's finals aspirations in 2024. A loss to the bottom side would be another embarrassing moment in a cursed year for the Dees whilst a win could be the spark they need to reignite the fire in the belly.
