Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

2008 Player Review - # 13 Adem Yze

Demonland

Recommended Posts

13. Adem Yze [187cm 85kg 21.09.77 - 271 games (6 in 2008) 234 goals (5 in 2008)] - the veteran had little impact in 2008 and played out most of the season with the Zebras.

One of the Demons' better players of the recent era, Yze was only a shadow of the great all rounder who roamed the MCG for 14 years and was for a long time the club's most valuable player. The end of his illustrious carer came last month with the announcement of his retirement from the club.

Was a joy to watch between 98 and 06. One of my fav players and would've certainly been a player that the opposition fans would've been wary of each week.

Yze was good enough to play 22 games this year, but the club was more interested in youth than playing a player on 350-400K a year.

I'm not sure that's true, but its definitely fair to suggest he would have played more than 5-6 games had the circumstances been different.

He should rightfully have pulled the plug at the end of last year, and all this year really did for him was draw wrath and acrimony from supporters who used to love him.

One of my favourite players in his prime, but one of my pet hates is when champion sportsmen try to milk their careers even though the cow has long been dry.

I'll try to think of the good times.

His teamates and the football dept. thought he was still capable, otherwise they wouldn't have included him in the leadership group.

A quality player for more than a decade.

Again all the more reason why these groups really lack focus and direction  ..

OOze..was a great player once and in his day. Never struck me as a team player.. more often seeking confirmation of self adulation at the expence of the other 17 on the pitch. Not known for the 1%-ers. A prodigious talent in moments..a selfish player for the most.

whilst I wish him well in further travels.. glad he's finished up at Melbourne..not troubled at all he saw little game time this year...seems a fitting reward !! ;)

Adem Yze - One of the best players for Melbourne from 1998-2005. Known for his precision kicking at his best. I prefer to remember his valuable contributions to the club - such as his 1998 season - one of his best seasons, rather than his last 2-3 seasons where he has struggled for form and consistency.

Yes difference between Bailey and Daniher, is Bailey did not play him and went for youth.

Had little influence on games in his last years. I am still tainted by the images of Yze playing against Adelaide round 21 2006 I am afraid. I don't think I have been so disappointed in our softness since the Simmonds incident in the 2000 grand final.

good player in his hey day but too many weaknesses for mine.

Glad we are moving into a new era, put it that way.

What happened in that game?

When I was a boy I listened to matches on the radio and heard commentators sing the praises of the likes of Vagg and Kenneally, Townsend and Emselle... clever players who could snag a goal, a couple who would drift in and out, have a purple patch, but all seen as valuable commodities in team terms. This is how I see Adem. A clever player who could manufacture something, natural flair in many sports, unassuming and media shy. Strong family background, values and traditions. Yze was one of the best all-rounders in my time. He could kick an unlikely goal, he could take a death-defying mark, he could find a mate with laser-like accuracy (yes, if you look further back than 2007 you will find that he was highly rated as a deliverer) He had a big enough motor to be considered for occasional forays into the mid-field. Mecurial is a word that was used to describe the OOZE in his hey-day. He remained a Demon throughout. I never joined the chorus who were calling him out on commitment grounds. He remains one of the stars at MFC in my time. Yes the star has faded but the contribution over the journey is as great as a Didac, a Medhurst, a Farmer, a Vagg, a Kenneally, an Emselle or a Townsend.

Since his retirement I've done my best to erase his last three years from my memory. Before that he was one of my favourite players and a delight to watch.

Reckon there'll be an ammo club somewhere around next year with a gun new player on their hands too. Is his brother still kicking around?

Congratulations Oooooooooze on a great career.

You did some incredible stuff. Great acrobatic marks overhead and on chest. Kicked miraculous goals from deep in right pockets.

Your hand and foot disposal ratio was highly skewed to foot.

You were not 'hungry', you just had confidence in your ability to effectively execute by foot. Invariably, you did!

You played in a Daniher era of corridor and long disposal to effect fast scoring. It was alternatively successful over 8 years.

You played with some very good players and your style enhanced the team.

You would be placed in the center when clearances were immediatley necessary. You would be placed forward when a game needed to be won.

You cleared, you goaled.

You will always be the Ooooooooooooooooooze.

Thanks for the Demon effort, Adem Yze. Good luck!

Work ethic was the only thing that kept Ooze from being a champion of the game.

Still, he had a decorated career. Done some amazing things and was a loyal servant to the MFC.

His teamates and the football dept. thought he was still capable, otherwise they wouldn't have included him in the leadership group.

The football dept inherited the final year of a overpriced contract for a player who began to deteriorate some years before.

Given that 25% of the voting playing list were new to AFL football its clear that any senior player was naively adjudged leadership material. Says alot about the quality of the 2008 list this year. Yze was dumped half way through the year.

Had he been uncontracted at the end of 2007, I could not see why the current football administration would not have done then what they did at the end of 2008.

Should have been traded at the end of 2004 when the traits that undermined the final years of his career started to appear.

Ultimately, it was the football dept.'s decision on the leadership group. They determined the process, and they ratified the playing groups' choice.

Hopefully this is your final post of Adem Yze bashing.

Fool. They established and ratified the process not the player. When the players voted him off the leadership group six months later it speaks volumes for where he was at.

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

    TRAINING: Monday 29th April 2024

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to
