Demons want Harvey

There is some talk about that we are extremely keen to talk to Robert Harvey about an Off field role next season.

The club is keen to talk to Harvey as soon as his season is complete, but he is already beleived to be wanting a coaching role with a youthful club in some capacity..

It would be interesting to see if we can land him, as IMO he'd be a great asset in assisting our midfield..

Gary O'donnell and David Schwarz have also apparently been approached..

Harvey instead of Williams? Couldn't do any worse.

Ox? NO.

O'Donnell? Didn't rate him as a player. Not sure

id take todd viney over all of them any day of the week

well maybe not over harvs...but one of them bleeds red and blue and one of them would be getting his first coaching gig

on the other hand, wouldnt mind shwarta being at the club in a part time capacity or for a marketing gig, but not as a full time role

i have really changed my opinion of him towards the end of this year and have started to like him, but i think he is a little bit of a looney tune still...

then again, i quite like his commenatry even though no one else does

in conclusion

i cant make my mind up over anthing

The OX has a good football brain and played his football with passion and zest! Red and Blue all over! Get him over!

Would welcome Rob Harvey and O'Donnell anyday of the week. Would be great additions. AS would Todd Viney!

If we could add one of them would be great!

G-O'd is a very cluey bloke..make no mistake..Am amazed Windless Hill didnt go with him instead of Knights to tell truth.

Am not that overly impressed to date with our secondary coaches. I have no idea what Harvey is like as an educator etc..but there could be no uncertainty of his credibility as a player and thinker on the field.

My daughter may even switch back to Melb then !! lol

Schwarta did know how to play the pointy end of the ground.. and he could certainly show a few how to kick a ball... not something we have an exces of at Melbourne i would say !!

We as a footy club need to help the young guys as much as we can, so if that means getting some of these guys - do it!!!

Ox - played CHF very well (alongside G.Lyon & D.Neitz), does know what he is talking about. Keeps his messages simple - somthing our young fellas prob need (no need to get too technical)

Garry O'Donnell - A very very good hbf in his time, has learnt off the best in Lethal. Very good with the young guys.

Harvs' - Need I say more? One of THE BEST midfielders in the game!!

Of course we all would love Todd back @ the club, but I think he is prob pretty happy at the Hawks at the moment - but, no harm in asking.

Do people writing off the Ox realise he was forward coach of the Dogs this year?

They were the 2nd highest scoring team this season...

Happy to be corrected, btu I don't believe he was the forward coach. I think he was a goalkicking and forward assistant - no match day or strategy role, just more mentoring for some of their forwards. I'm not saying I do or don't like the idea, just think you have over-stated his role.

I think you are right Choko.

If Harvey joins, where does this leave Paul Williams, the last of the footy department under the old administration?

I thought I'd heard somewhere that Williams was chasing another gig, Ballarat or some where. May or may not have substance.

Hrmmmm how did u rate Dean Bailey??

Nice point!

Ox has been the goalkicking coach down there, and by all reports, has been doing wonders!

Williams on the move apparently..

I'd be wrapped with getting Harvey, but not just as a midfield coach. I've heard he rates his ability to mentally prepare before a game. If he comes to the Demons, I'd love for him to be able to impart some of his knowledge in that area to our younger guys.

Well apparently, thats exactly what he wants to do..

I'd rather find an ex-Dee.

Harvey is the most exceptional footballer, who has incredibly made the evolutionary changes over 21 years to maintain football competitiveness. Can he coach? I don't know!

But give me an ex-Dee... yeh, probably Todd.

Or what about Chris Connolly? Could we get a discount for Chris?

Id be happy with the best availble person for the job.. If hes a Dee ..all good ..If hes not.. I dont care.. Just want best person.

By all accounts Harver does have some skill with imparting to the youth.

A vast bank of knowledge.. He interests me

Saint ..Demon.. two sides of the same coin !! lol ;)

Personally, I feel supporters place too much interest on where they feel certain peoples' heart "lies" and the influence that will have on not only their application for a certain job, but their ability once they have attained the role.

Harvey is a professional of the highest quality. Not just as a footballer but as a person and I feel this professionalism would come into his play should he join our Coaching Staff.

Though I just feel a role at Moorabin would suit him better. I have no doubt we would do a fine job at the MFC though.

We've closed ranks with our new Demon President, board, football department, etc.

We've hung tough with the AFL, in that we are 150yrs old.

We've made moves to go back home to the MCC and our MCG. At the same time we have moved further in the last 2 months than in the last 5 years to find a summer home where the Demons can "burn".

We debate our clash jumper and demand Red!

We are one, man!

Give me an ex-Dee in any coaching position we have available, if he qualifies !! (Sorry DB, you are honarary due to your "hang tough" year, and we do want you going forward)

This attitude makes us Demons. Makes me feel good against the McGuires, Kennetts and Dimitriou's of this game!!

2024 Player Reviews: #35 Harry Petty

Failed to fulfill the promise of his breakout six goal effort against the Tigers in 2023 and was generally disappointing as a key forward. It remains to be seen whether Simon Goodwin will persevere with him in attack or return him to the backline where he was an important cog in the club’s 2021 premiership success. After a bright start to the season, playing mostly in defence, Howes seemed to lose his way in midseason but fought back with some good performances at Casey and finished the year back at AFL level. Originally an NBL basketballer with the Brisbane Bullets, he moved across town in 2019 to the AFL Lions where he played 19 games before crossing to Melbourne where he was expected to fill a role as a back up ruckman/key forward. Unfortunately, didn’t quite get there although he did finish equal sixth in Casey’s best and fairest award. Date of Birth: 23 February 1999 Height: 198cm Games CDFC: 14 Goals CDFL: 13

Sadly, had to wrap up a great career in midstream on the back of multiple concussions which culminated in the Maynard hit in the 2023 Qualifying Final. His loss to the club was inestimable over and above his on field talent given his character and leadership qualities, all of which have been sorely missed. The son of former Demon Brownlow Medalist Shane, Taj added a further 16 games to his overall tally of games but a number were as substitute. He is slowly fitting into the team structure but without doing anything spectacular and needs to take further steps forward in 2025 for his career to progress. SLIP SLIDING AWAY by Meggs

It was a sweaty, slippery night at Cazalys Stadium, a tough slog with low scoring and missed opportunities.  The Hokball Hawks hung on to win by a goal and sit second on the ladder, relegating the disappointed Demons to, almost certainly, finals spectators.   We had to win this match. When news broke of late withdrawals of talisman Kate Hore and key back Gaby Colvin, expectations plummeted, and Demon fans despaired.  The bad news was the signature song of 2024, a season that’s
