Clint Bartram [181cm 73kg 16.02.88 - 44 games (21 in 2008), 11 goals (5 in 2008)] - made a tentative comeback after suffering a season ending knee injury after round one of 2007 and managed 21 games but failed to fulfil the promise of his debut season. Question marks still exist over his disposal and decision making and next year will be important for him.

A victim of injury and restrict preparations this year he will certainly have to show something to warrant his maintenance on the list.

The plus for him...is he is far from alone

From memory, in his debut season, it was his tagging roles that caught our attention. He got swag of tackles each game, but I don't recall him ever being a prolific ball winner. Unrealistic expectations on the kid I think.

Another pre-season under Bailey, and we'll see how he goes in 09.

Clint played the tagging role from game 1. He hasn't sustained the standards set in first year, but was persevered with in 2008. Bezzle and Rhino seem to have a mortgage on estimates of player (and poster) worth around here, so I wouldn't want to offer an opinion that strayed too far from the one those two illuminaries have already expressed, however, Bartram will need to regain early form to hold his place in 2009.

I think Clint had an average season.

He played a defensive role, mainly as a tagger. But the best taggers in today's game are the ones who are just as dominate as their direct opponent should be. Worth keeping but needs to have a big season next year.

His first year was as a tagger - so, it isnt been mis-coached!

This year was pretty much his first full year since he made his debut - he will be much better for the 09 pre-season & will improve in 09

....that claimed massive upside in a player when he has a lack of pace and limited penetration by foot. B)

I think a more realistic assessment would be that he arrived at the club already at his best game and hasn't gotten any better. I don't think he's gotten worse than when he arrived at the club. People are just assessing his game as a third year player now rather than as a first.

It's very difficult to assess a player in the first year immediately after a long lay off with a knee injury such as that suffered by Clint Bartram. I think we need to see how he goes next year before we start writing him off. After all, he's still only a 20 year old!

i think thats a fair assesment. and it should probably be noted that his preseasons have been limited by injury, so in effect this year was a continuation of his first (drawing a long bow? lol). hopefully he will have a chance to sit down with bails and outline a plan to work on over summer. and hopefully he stays injury free until this time next year, so we can see what improvement he makes...

Good point. He is really a 2nd year player for all the football he has missed.

Add that to the fact that he was one of few players in the team who gave 100% at all times this year. Criticism at the moment is unwarranted IMO.
