Heat on AFL, Ben Holland, Brendan Fevola over wild behaviour

THE AFL is under pressure to ban Mad Mondays after another drunken disgrace left a footballer in trouble.

Melbourne forward Ben Holland was allegedly injured after a scuffle broke out when he tried to help teammate Nathan Carroll into a taxi...

Melbourne football manager Chris Connolly said the club had been working on policy that not only limited players' alcohol intake, but encouraged them to support those who drank too much.

"It's that very situation that might have led to (the incident)," Connolly said.

"I think Ben was trying to encourage Nathan (to go home) when he may have had too much to drink."

Connolly said the club had tried to put an end to the Mad Monday binge sessions.

"My understanding is the behaviour of all the players was outstanding except . . . for the behaviour of Nathan."

Thats all we need as a club, not

Un-needed player. Even if he stays on the list, I doubt he would get a game next year. Should just pay out his contract and send him on his way.

I doubt anyone would pick him up in the PSD.

Carroll was involved in bar fights in Greece and Germany last summer and was at one stage locked up in jail.

Greece, Germany and now Holland.

My advice to Nathan is that, in the future, he should stay away from anything to do with Europe  !

Dissapointing, very dissapointing.

Team mates stick together, they do not fight Chop. He needs to put his dead down and concentrate on football instead of always trying to be a macho man.

He is the bad influence we dont need at this club with so many young guys.

Good riddance.

What an idiot. I've heard alot of bad things about Nathan Carroll, perhaps some of them true, his behaivour certainly indicates it.

Hitting a teamate who is trying to do the right thing by you is very poor form.

This year started badly with alcohol related incidents and it looks like it is going to end the same way. I'm a Carroll fan, but enough is enough. The right thing to do is to delist him and pay out his contract.

swap to freo for warnock? all the bad boys go there, farmer, johnson, carr, tarrant, headland etc

Fremantle would not want Carroll. Especially since they've had him before and got rid of him.

Like I said before, I like "Disco" but he has probably stamped his own ticket.

Don't forget Martin and Rivers.

We have a surplus of key backs for the first time ever. Not a good time for a fringe key back to [censored] up. But then again, that is Carroll's style.

Carroll is a known and avoided serial social problem amongst all other AFL Clubs.

Carroll's brother played for Freo. Any hints why they avoided Nathan like the plague back then?

He had poor off field form then in WA. He is known amongst other Clubs to be someone to avoid socially.

Its does raise a question of judgement over MFC players who choose to socialise with Carroll when alcohol is involved given his habitual incidents.

You are fooling yourself if you think a Club will trade for a delinquent like that.

I know the Club is financially stretched but over the past year Carroll puts a compelling case on and off the field for an early payout of his contract.

I'm not interested in wasting money paying anyone's contract out. We've done enough of that in recent times. Find another resolution.

Carroll wouldn't be on 'Harris' money.

Considering we'll be paying well short of the salary cap next year I'm sure we could afford to pay him out.

Especially consiering a kid on $35,000 will probably take his spot.

The other resolution is keep him on the list.

Would it be a waste of money paying out a bloke DB decides he doesn't want at the club for whatever reason (ability or behaviour)?

Is there a 3 strike behaviour policy in the player's contract?

Surely if there is, he must be on very shaky ground.

I'm not normally one for hanging players -- I haven't done so for McLean/Sylvia/Carroll's indescretions in the past, but this is just getting ridiculous now. Give him the bullet immediately.

I thought his brother played for WCE but i agree with you. CUT him loose. I'll try to find a loophole so we don't have to pay him out but if we can't, just DELIST.

Trent Carroll played at both Freo and West Coast. Nathan was on Freo's rookie list but was discarded and ended up at Melbourne. I don't think there's a snowball's chance in hell of him coming anywhere near Freo (we just sacked Farmer, why would we pick up Carroll)

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
