Trading draft pick # 1

There's a snippet in today's Sunday Sun suggesting that we might trade draft pick # 1 to Fremantle for # 3 (presumably as part of another deal - Warnock?). We would still get our preferred choice of Jack Watts and they would get Naitanui.

Interesting?

Don't be surprised if Melbourne gives up the No. 1 pick in the national draft after all. But it still may get it's player.

Industry sources predict the Demons and Fremantle could yet swap overall picks 1 and 3 in the draft.

That deal would ensure Fremantle claimed Nicholas Naitanui at pick 1 and the Demons could still take their preferred pick, Jack Watts, at 3.

If we want Watts and the eagles want Rich like reported, there would be no need for this trade from Freo.

Maybe the Eagles are considering Natanui???

If we were to do this is there any guarantee that WCE will take Rich and we still get our boy Watts, or if WCE did take Watts are we still in a no lose situation if we had to settle for Rich?

Personally i don't mind trading our 1st pick to freo and getting their 3rd pick if we could still get the players we have our mind set on.

This is how it would look

Melb gain R Warnock and Pick 3

Freo get Pick 1

WCE Pick 2

Thoughts?

What I'd like to know is if prearranged pick orders and trading between club is legally binding, ie if we give you this pick based on you doing this etc

This is assuming that the dees drop the game against the tiggies.

I actually do not mind this trade at all. I know freo are playing hard ball, and this is a way for us to avoid giving up a top 30 pick.

Pick 1, 2, 3 are all golden nuggets, and we all know WA teams are high in Rich and NikNat. THis would allow us to grab watts at 3.

I do propose this though. Who is to say that the dees are not looking at selecting Niknat or rich with pick one? If they do want watts, they will pull the trigger on this deal with freo. IF they do not make the trade, you can bet the dees will not select Watts with pick #1.

ive actually started leaning towards rich as my preffered choice just ahead of watts then natanui.... something about rich i just think he will be special and his disposal is already deadly... sure we need the forward but i dunno.. anyone read dermetts article he basically said rich was the best player but watts could take time of course...

And we would retain pick 1 in the PSD.

I believe this would have been written after Freo beat Collingwood, which meant that Port got pick 3 in the draft, and it is common knowledge here in Adelaide that they are looking to get Nik Nat to the Port! (other Fijians there include Rodan and Carlisle)

But then Port went and pulverised North yesterday, which gave Freo back their no. 3 pick.....

Article is a non-event now.... Just must've had nothing else to print ;)

Well, the point is, by Helping out freo, obviously we will gain a player..

The rumour is if we trade pick 1 for pick 3, there will be something in it for us, thus 2 theories hasve emerged..

We get pick 3, Warnock, Freo Gets Pick 1 & 19..

The second is..

We get: Pick 3, 21, Murphy,

Dockers get: Pick 1, 17 & 51 (ish)..

Dunno bout it, but thats the 2 theories I have heard, they are being floated around alot atm!!

Trade wek should be very interesting for us, more so than in recent years..

1 thing seems certain, Watts a demon, thankyou VERY much!!

If we take watss #1, west coast rich at #2 then freo get nat at #3

So we may as well keep Freo happy, give them pick 1, get Warnock and Watts, keep the PSD for Primsall

That way you run the risk of him being either a) traded somewhere else or B) potentially resigned by Freo.

If you have the chance to get him straight up and the club is that desperate about it then do it

Exactly, thus the rumour does make a little sense, but who knows..

Perhaps this article was written in the belief that Port would finish 14th and take Naitinui?

If this is true, West Coast must be leaning towards NikNat.

Currently, I see danger written all over NikNat and Watts. Both could be superstars. Both could not.

I don't think any of the top 3 are neccessarily better than the other; they are all totally different players.

I'd do the swap; would also take the pressure off Watts being the no1 pick if he falls to us @ 3

Hope Hutchy is right.

Also, I don't understand why people want to waste our PSD pick on Warnock when we can get him using other means, and leave it for another uncontracted star, who we probably can't trade for. Am I missing something? Help me out!

It's a smokescreen guys! Fremantle want Rich, not Nit Nat. Swapping picks with the Dee's would insure this. West Coast dont want Nit Nat. Eagles would be in limbo if this happens.

Your probably right actually.

If we still get Watts and pick up Warnock without any damage done. It will be a cracking trade for both parties.

Oh man. Whoever it is that keeps linking Murphy's name with Melbourne every offseason needs to be kicked in the groin. Terrible, terrible trade. The 3 + Warnock for 1 sounds interesting, but probably unlikely now that Port got over North.

How about this deal: we don't swap picks, we screw Freo and get Warnock in the PSD and for once in our soft existence we don't accommodate other teams and the hell with all of them.

When was the last time another team did us a favour?

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,

    GALLANT by KC from Casey

The world “gallant” is not one that is readily acceptable to losing teams in our game of football so when it was used in the context of the Casey Demons’ loss to Sandringham in yesterday’s match at Casey Fields, it left a bitter taste in the mouth.  The Demons went into the game against the St Kilda affiliated Zebras with the advantage of playing on their home turf (not that this has been a major asset in 2024) and with very little else going in their favour. The Saints have close to a full

    MEANWHILE by Whispering Jack

… meanwhile, at about the same time that Narrm was putting its feet on the accelerator to obliterate the long-suffering Euro-Yroke combination, I heard someone mention in passing that Kuwarna was leading Waalitj Marawar by a whopping 46 to 1 halfway through the second quarter of their game over in Adelaide. “What is football coming to?” I asked myself.  In front of my eyes, the Demons were smashing it through the midfield, forcing turnovers and getting the footy to their forwards who w
