Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

I was just wondering if anyone here has ever had a player that, for some reason, they just loved. They don't need to be the best. They don't even need to be good. Maybe it was their haircut or their running style. Whatever it is, I'd like to hear it.

For me, I just loved the way Nathan Brown played. There was something about him I thought was great, and I was really sad when he retired, although I did understand why.

What does everyone else think?

Balls?

Hahahah, I'm glad you asked - it gave me the motivation to edit the wikipedia entry from Rodney "Rod" Grinter to Rodney "Balls" Grinter.

He is the last truly hard-hitting bastard we've had play for us (unless you include Byron's cameo).

A Couple of interesting Grinter facts:

He put Terry Wallace on a stretcher in 1988

He was on the mark when Jim gave away that penalty kick in 1987

Incidentally, Stynes was my favourite for a long time even though I am sometimes critical of his post-playing contributions.

Even though I can't stand the bloke now, I used to love watching Farmer play as well. I remember one particular Queens Birthday match (2000) where my mate mentioned to me at half time that Jeff was the most over-rated player in the league. The Wiz then proceeded to kick 9 in the second half. The Wiz is also responsible for my all-time wittiest and simultaneously most unappreciated football heckle when, in a much later match against the filth, he made Prestigiacomo look like an absolute nonce which prompted me to scream my support for the "Prestidigitator". Needless to say it was lost on the toothless.

Thanks for that. I loved the Irishman too. I used to go all the time as a little kid with my grandpa and keep an eye on him. My name is Jimmy and his is Jim so we both loved to watch him play. Also, my first footy memory was of Jeff Farmer's incredible mark on Gary Lyon's back. Good times!

My favourite player is probably Schwarz.

He certainly could turn it on.

I remember Farmer handballing to Lyon in the goal square when Farmer could have had a set shot from in front - good times.

A wiki devotee reverted your change!

How about Mark Jacko Jackson - always worth the price of admission. Though not necessarily for his football prowess. I seem to recall him running the length of the field to get in on a fight in the backline - by the time he got there it was all over. Handstands, puffed out chest and the chin... classic!

Robert Flower

Laurie Fowler

Gary Hardeman/ Greg Wells/ Stan Alves

David Schwartz - up 2001

G Lyon/A Jakovich/ J Farmer up to 2000

Not that hot on Grinter who was a capable footballer but blew it with his sometimes indiscriminate white line fever thuggery.

Yes, I also remember out at Waverley when Hawthorn players were witches hats, and G.Lyon and J.Farmer created on eof the best goals of all time IMO, stand by for the commetary: -

Farmer, at half back kicks it to Lyon on the wing, Farmer runs on, Garry Loin Chop handballs to Farmer on the run, farmer bounces, once, twice, there is no one up forward - a vacant forward line - Farmer 60m out unleashes a torpedo punt, its landed in the goal square, bounces....GOAL. What a goal!

Agree with all that, was excited by A.Jackovich too. '91 played I think the last 11 games and kicked over 70 goals. 11 against the Kangaroos at the re-developing G (Southern Stand). D.Bennett played alright that day too at CHF.

I also Loved Flower, Lyon, Tingay, Yeats, I too had a massive love for riggers

Brett Lovett - was just so tough and reliable with a great football brain

Mine: - R.Flower, B.Lovett, G.Lyon, S.Tingay, loved Yeats too, Viney for his in and under work (honourable mention to his snap at goal in the Elim Final v Nth Melb '87 - started the momentum), Stynesy, Ox, NEITA!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Warren Dean could have been anything, except for injury.

Thought Mouse was great.

But over the last 20 years, and accepting the others named were sensational. My presonal favourite was Andrew Obst. Not overly gifted, but always had a crack.

P.S. wished we had not let K Dyson go either.

    GAMEDAY: Rd 09 vs Carlton

It's Game Day and the Demons are once again headlining another blockbuster at the MCG to kick off the round of footy. MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,
