Personally, i'd like DB to maybe remove the shackles from Frawley a bit and let him play as a running half back flanker. From his first game he always seemed to enjoy taking the opposiiton on and having a dash from the backline, and although his kicking action is ungainly, he seems to hit targets. Wheatley is playing this role at the moment and he doesn't hit targets as often as he should, so it could be worth a try. I feel we really lack a bit of pace running the ball out of the backline breaking the lines.

Of course the other option is putting him up as trade bait, weren't the Saints keen on him at the draft and again last year?

It would seem a waste of our first round draft pick be a depth player, but he is still young and will improve, so i will take the abuse i will receive on that point also.

I read that Frawley played much of his junior footy as a winger, but then had a growth spurt and played KP.

However, I'm not sure Frawley's skills are good enough to play primarily as a rebounding defender/winger.

I don't mind what his kick looks like, but when we're chipping it around the back half of the ground he has an unfortunate knack of failing to hit targets.

PS. It's not like the other guys you mentioned have nailed down a spot in the backline, IMHO. They might do so in future, but it's early days...

martin is 198cm and 97kg. which small is he playing on?

but i see your point. we suddenly have martin, garland, warnock, frawley and rivers who are all vying for KPD spots of which there are perhaps 3. it is a situation we havnt been in for years...

If you actually read my post, i did state what my personal preference was for Frawley. The trade was only a side note suggestion.

I wouldn't want the club to shop him around, but if another club came forward with a good offer, would we not have a think about it, considering we now appear to have a bit of depth on that area?

Garland plays on mobile running forwards, not huge marking monsters. Nor fast leading powerfull marks.

Frawley has good pace and good size, but there are some concerns. He's a poor reader of the ball in flight, he spends too much time worrying about his opponent only to be easily out manouvred. Even smalls like Medhurst have made him look silly in a marking contest.

He has ability, but lacks footy smarts.

We could have had Jack Riewoldt. I wish we did. But Chip has scope for improvement.

I'm not a huge fan of discussing trades at this stage of the season but I think it might be worth offering him around and see what offers we can get in trade week. He, now, seems to be surplus to our needs and is one of our few expendable players who might have some value (given he is very young, was selected 12th in a very highly rated draft, and does have good physical attributes and potential to develop into a good player).

I agree Jerry. I remember in the Carlton game Frawley played on Fevola (and did alright I thought), but at times he took the ball and ran with it out of defence. He showed some pace and he kicked well, so I reckon a half back flanker is the way to go. He can have Bell's spot for mine.

I think he will eventually take over warnock. Warnock has been serviceable this year, tho im not sure he is the long term answer.

just the kid time. 19 yrs old. another typical example of demonlanders calling for a teenagers head before they have reached 20 games.

KP defenders take time, and he has barely had 1 preseason in the gym.

I believe Martin, Warnock, Frawley and Rivers will be the 4 KP defenders of the future, and i must say i agree that Garland could have a future in the forward line especially as he was drafted as a forward.

Garland is the most versatile of the bunch, and if we have 4 good KP defenders, why not give him a go.

Either way this is a good problem to have.

If someone offered a 1st rounder in this draft you would have to consider it. With 3 first rounders we could target an extra mid or KPP forward.

The big if would be Rivers, if he doesn't come good it would be risky to trade Chip. Can someone fill us in if Cheeney and McNamara are simular types?

He might be insurance, has more development to be pumped into him. He's still young. If Rivers can't get his body back together it might be worthwhile to keep him. I wouldn't look to trade him just yet. He's a handy type
