It's the last quarter and the doggies have just kicked a point. Bell chips the ball to Martin who plays on hanballs inboard to buckley who lays it off to Jones running through the centre chips it to Sylvia who swings onto his right and precedes to ram the ball down the leading Newton's throat. Set shot from right in front 45 out and he's split the middle for his sixth major of the afternoon and I think the Dees are home

great result. now jaded has to sell her shoes!

Jaded, after that game early in the season, I guess you really don't rate Newton :P

but i really like the idea that a commentator would go crazy over newton and use the line 'the dees are back in front' after we kicked the first behind and the dogs kicked the next two :P

Haha :P

I dont think Bell or Newton are deserving.

Bell hasnt been setting the world alight at Sandy. And it was only 3 weeks ago Juice was only just doing the business with Sandy Reserves.

I guess Juice deserves another chance to prove himself, but surely its his last should he fail. Bell is a shocking inclusion. Would much rather see Frawley there.

That's not true. His last two games at Sandy have been good.

Bell is in for the match-up on Welsh. Absolutely towelled him up last time and got 3 Brownlow votes.

Juice will start on the ground, guaranteed.

Man I am excited to see what he does. Bailey has worked so much magic with our youngsters this year, and Juice has as much talent as anyone.

I predict a bag of 7 goals.

of course the commentators going crazy,

in one day newton has just got mark of the day, gaol of the day, and that, which really got the commentator excited, was his 10th goal for the match.

(plus he also had 3 shephards and 5 tackles, but they were overshadowed).

2 good performances are setting the world alight now are they.

I expect Bell to absoloutly dominate with Sandy before he deserves another crack with the Seniors.

Thank god Bode was dropped. Really poor footballer with little upside.

Predict Newton to kick 2 goals from 7 touches and 4 marks.

Morton to have 21 touches and a goal.

Valenti to rack up 9 tackles.

I'd love to see Bell get a run in the middle.

I actually think Bell would be a good matchup for Hahn, who is one of their most important and players and sets their physical tone for the match.

Bell needs to have the acid put on him to go out and match that physicality of Hahn and curb his influence. You would think with Bell being in the postion that he is in would relish an opportunity like that.

My hunch is that the coaches are saying to Bell and Newton, here's your chance don't stuff it up

From what Miller said at the photo on Thursday, Newton has been injured for a large part of this season and he would know better than anyone that if you get injured and can't shake it than it's hard to get back to the form you'd like.

In saying that, there is no doubt that Newton has to show a large work ethic this weekend, it seems that Bails has taken that approach that hard work gets rewarded and it seems to be the corner stone of our side at this time. The two wins we've had this year have come through relentless pressure and hard running (abliet for only one half v freo!), so he'd better pull his weight.

Bell has been really dissapointing this year, last year i would've had him up there in the top 5 B&F at the mid point, since then (again injury interrupting) he has shown very little to warrent a solid best 22 spot. With many of our key players out for the season it gives some on the outer a chance to put their hands up and say "i want to be apart of our this clubs future".

It's a good test this week, and i'll be there to spur them on!

people are hailing bate as a forward but he has kicked less goals than games.

Bate hasn't played all of his games since his return as a forward. Also there are goal assists that you need to take into consideration. Since Bate went forward, I'm sure he's been a significant factor in this area.

I'm still a little bit confused why Newton gets so much attention on these boards.

Is it simply because it took him so long to play? What's the obsession?

Excited to see Bell back, i think he can add a lot to our team if he can get his head right

I cannot beleive that hack Bell is back!!

He has done NOTHING to deserve a spot, id rather see yze, White, Carroll, Holland ahead of him, and since i dont want them to play, that shows how much I dont wont dinga to play!!

Midfield?? u guys are kidding yourselves, he's no where near a midfielder!! what a joke!

Im angry! Bell.. well, lets see, he'll make some bad decisions, run around on the spot, turnover a few by hand & foot, let his opponent kick a couple of easy ones, and, get dropped again..

Sorry 2 be so negative, he's just the 1 player 1 really dislike at our club!

You're very harsh Nudge, though whilst diplomacy is a word you need to research, for a change I agree with you in principle. I hope his disposal has improved markedly since we last saw him in the team.

    EASYBEATS by Meggs

A beautiful sunny Friday afternoon, with a light breeze and a strong Windy Hill crowd set the scene, inviting one team to seize the day and take the important four points on offer. For the Demons it was not a good Friday, easily beaten by an all-time largest losing margin of 65 points.   Essendon threw themselves into action today, winning most of the contests and had three early goals with Daria Bannister on fire.  In contrast the Demons were dropping marks, hesitant in close and comm

    DEFUSE THE BOMBERS by Meggs

Last Saturday’s crushing loss to Fremantle, after being three goals ahead at three quarter time, should be motivation enough to bounce back for this very winnable Round 5 clash at Windy Hill. A first-time venue for the Melbourne AFLW team, this should be a familiar suburban, windy, footy environment for the players.   Essendon were brave and competitive last week against ladder leader Adelaide at Sturt’s home ground. A familiar name, Maddison Gay, was the Bombers best player with

    BLOW THE SIREN by Meggs

Fremantle hosted the Demons on a sunny 20-degree Saturdayafternoon winning the toss and electing to defend in the first quarter against the 3-goal breeze favouring the Parry Street end. There was method here, as this would give the comeback queens, the Dockers, last use of the breeze. The Melbourne Coach had promised an improved performance, and we did start better than previous weeks, winning the ball out of the middle, using the breeze advantage and connecting to the forwards.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.
