Your motto is the Time is Now for the MFC, yet you don't like White being omitted?

Its time for the MFC to do exactly what Bailey is doing. Read thread on Demonlands update after the Sydney game. White has just 5-6 points! When is the last time you saw White in Melbourne's best players?

WHOA!

[censored]. I have to go and completely redo my supercoach and dream team side now. Valenti off the bench, And White gone? This is a dramatic shift...

Posted

Depends what you want from a ruckman.

Bailey obviously values strong bodywork around the clearances rather than what happens around the ground.

And Jamar was outstanding last time we played Brisbane.

Hmm, when was the last time White was in the best? How about two weeks ago:

BEST

Richmond: Richardson, Deledio, Brown, Tuck, Cotchin, Polak

Melbourne: Bruce, Wheatley, McLean, Miller, White, Garland

You should ask yourself when was the last time Jamar was in the best! This is a disgraceful selection decision for mine....

Depends what you want from your ruckman. Jamar is probably a better option against Brisbane Rucks who are very physical, White isn't.

He is losing his leap gradually, the circle has killed his dominance at the centre bounce.

I watched that game v the Tigers, very surprised he got mentioned in the best! What about the other 12 games?

I dont take a hell of a lot of notice of the best players listed some media outlets. IMO I wouldnt have had White in any best players list at all this year. I think the Demonland player of the year votes would show others also agree (may be wrong). His ruckwork is ineffectual and he is having less and less impact around the ground. Jamar gives us a strong presence in the ruck, but we also know he gives absolutley nothing around the ground. I am happy for Bails to look to the future, but Jamar is not where it is at. Doesnt really phase me who of the 2 he selected.

Posted

It's pretty simple isn't it? White isn't part of the future. His influence has dropped off so much that there is no way he will play in another final for Melbourne. Everyone knows that.

Jamar on the ther hand may be part of the future and will probably be given several week as No. 1 ruck to show if he is or not. If he shows enough then he stays next year. If not, it's goodbye and we recruit more candidates.

Very good decision by DB and the selection commitee. Keep playing the kids and experienting with positions. Find out as much as we can about the entire list so we can go into draft and trade time knowing exactly where everyone is and what part they play in our future.

Jeff White OUT

It's not a ballsy call or tough call.

It's the right call. I like my ruckman who are big, imposing and making an impact. Not floating around getting cheapies.

Jamar. You've been given a gift platter, FTLOG take it.

personally i think white has had a very poor season, especially by his standards. he is one of those players where the stats are deceiving.

out of interest, with white and mcdonald gone, our average games played by this weeks team drops to 57.5 while the average age is 23 and 2 months. with wheelan, miller, wheatly, green and bruce being our only 100+ gamers. and only 3 (mclean, davey and jamar) who have played more than 50 games. that means 14 of our players have played under 50 games. i wonder when the last time we fielded a side without a 200 gamer was?

also i noticed its a bit scary that jamar is the 8th most experienced player (in games) in the mfc line up tomorrow. and that 14 of our players will be 23 or under.

Posted

Wow was not expecting that. Think its brilliant though, would Daniher have ever done this?

Posted

White is a better ruckman and player than Jamar.

However, White is in his last season (maybe second last) and we need to look to the future.

Peoploe may notice that White, Neitz, Yze, Holland, McDonald (inj), Robbo (inj) and Carrol are all not playing.

Why? Because they are not the future.

In fact, the only old players left in our team are Bruce (29), Wheatley (27) and Green (27) and all three have performed very well this year.

Get used to it guyz. if a player is over 27 and isn't a CORE performing player, you will see them at sandy

Exactly, and Jamar is far more suited to taking on Charman in the ruck than White is.

White has had a poor season, both in the ruck and around the ground. We've been relying on him for far too long, and it's time to try and develop other options. In all likelihood this is White's last season, and so it is to be expected that if his form is poor, we should give someone else a go.

Jamar has been playing very well in the VFL, and the reality is he is better in the ruck these days. He is stronger, and it's time he showed us what he can do as number 1 ruck. We have to find out eventually whether he can do it, why wait until after White has retired and it's too late?

Bailey is doing the right thing here. White is in poor form, and you can't keep rewarding senior players if they are not performing... we've been waiting for this to happen for 10 years ffs!

Big call from Bails... but he doesn't seem scared to make the big calls... i'd never thought i'd see the day mark jamar would get a game ahead of jeff white

No, I was meant to merge it into this one (don't need two topics discussing the same thing), but I pressed the wrong option and it got deleted.

My apologies

No sure about White out, but very pleased Valenti is in.

This selection is certainly up there for something different. Lions will be buggered for a game plan in terms of match ups!

Pleased!

Looking at the Herald Sun article, this is the first time I've really seriously seen White as a trade option. What was it Bailey said "He's out of contract at the end of the year and we'll wait until then to decide what's right for Jeff and what's right for the footy club." Which in coach-talk is as close as anyone ever gets to saying they;re looking to trade a player.

Looking at teams like Port (Lade), Swans (Everitt), even Adelaide could use a ruckman that has a good reputation... And recent years have seen older ruckmen play solid roles in sides that are pushing for a flag...

Maybe even the Saints, if they didn't already have King on his last legs and were they more of a serious premiership threat.

I reckon Jeff is a great demon player who like Bruce and Green should be able to decide. If they want to stay the club can make a deal, if they want to go somewhere where they can spend their last year or so in reach of a flag, then they should be given that opportunity. Bailey has already suggested he wants kids, kids and more kids.

It would be sad to see him go, be it retirement, delisting OR a trade... but at least the third option is beneficial for all.

*edit*... On further reflection, assuming Naita is coming to the club, I can't think of a better mentor than a player who adapted his high-leap and played good footy for the latter half of his career...

So with that in mind I'm hopping back into the nice little indentation I've made for myself on the fence... :)

Bode out for Morton would have been good. Maybe there is someone under a cloud, hence they made Morton Emergency. Bailey is obviously drawing a line in the sand, you gotta like the guy. Furthermore, I was listening to SEN on the way home and Luke Darcy was talking about the dees. Although we have only won one game he said that he was very impressed with the way that Bailey has handled himself, he hasn't crumbled under the pressure which can only be good for the players as well.

The Whiting is on the wall !!!!! ;)

Wonder whether they'll play Warnock, Garland and Martin all back? They might play one of Martin or Garland forward. Furthermore they have PJ starting forward. Will Jamar move forward when he is resting? Lots of questions, i'll look forward to watching it all unfold on Sunday.

Lastly, they played Valenti up forward last week and supposedly he did ok, wonder if Bailey will throw him down there.

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
