adding another 42 odd points to the score and we win by 3 goals... i know it's a simplistic way of looking at it, but they all had shots which at AFL level you need to ice and put away, but they fudged them completely...

Johnson marked 48m out on the boundary with about 30 secs left in the term. He knew his limitations so he centred the ball to the corridor outside 50 to Garland, who marked and kicked to Green, who marked about 40 out. Siren went, Green goaled and kept us in it. Had PJ had the shot, he would most likely have kicked a point. I too would like to see him take more responsibility for a big man inside 50 and have the shot, as he did in a similar situation from the same spot on the ground against Hawthorn (although he missed that one), but believe he made the right decision and execution this time round.

Morton is a great kick. One of the only players I trust with the ball in his hands. He is a project player and the fact is he wouldn't be playing in too many other sides at this stage of our career. Unfortunately we don;t have that luxury.

Plenty of players have unorthodox kicking styles, some with good results others with bad, Bruce isnt the only player who kicks that way either. I'd put Morton's poor disposal today down to confidence, he shanked the set shot early, on the biggest stage he's ever played on, then he muffed a few more after that, nothing new there, it happes on a regular basis. His clean disposal was one of his strengths as a junior, if his kicking style is to blame how do you explain that? Are you saying its changed in the last 6 months? Odd comparison if you ask me.

I'm not sure about that mono.... Morts was from reports in the top 5-10 of a lot of the preseason running program. Fairly athletic for an 18/19 yr old kid in his first preseason

Uhhh... Morton aced the beep test at draft camp, and his ability to run and run and run was one of the major points raised about his upside when we drafted him.

He was also noted for his skills, so it's a shame there's been a couple of games where, I presume, he just got a little overwhelmed and careless with the kicking.

It's worth noting that there's also been a few games where he has had just about our highest disposal efficiency (I think he was, for one game early in the year, outright best)

I don't mind Burns. He has a low profile for a Collingwood player and seems like a pretty fair kinda bloke.

i know they missed their share, but i felt like we missed them from set shots 30 meters out rather than from on the run or difficult angles. i could be wrong, but i felt like we missed some easy ones. and perhaps missed a few that we shouldnt have had shots at (see yze) but instead should have passed to open players...

Scotty Burns is my favourite non Melbourne player. He's honest and fair and works his arse off for his side. He's also puts a fair bit of thought into footy. I think after he retires he'll make a very good coach.

Bode - I think of him now much like I used to think of Garland and Warnock. Maybe he shows the right stuff at training and needs the time and confidence to bring that form into AFL level. Persist IMO

Bell - Get him out of the backline. Please. Free him up at half forward and see how he goes.

Brock - Frustrated me very badly yesterday. Not his usual intense self I thought. I can't put my finger on the reason, but by 3/4 time I cringed every time he went near it.

Only had 36 disposals, 12 of them contested (that's a third, if you're trying to work it out), and 9 clearances.

He really did lack intensity, which is why Malthouse gave him top votes on Footy Classifieds last night (5 out of 5)

He can set the world on fire, and still some people will find faults in his game. Amazing.

Melbourne are a much different side that started the season badly. Aside from the result I was really impressed with a number of players who were either no names or were raw. Some of the players like Wona, Garland and to my surprise Warnock are really to starting to give something. This is at a time when what leadership we have has been devastated by the loss of senior players Neitz, Robbo and Rivers.

There is some very good signs from PJ, McLean, Green. Also a player I have been critical of Dunn did a very good job shutting down Swann for 3 quarters.

I sure Bailey took lots from that performance yesterday.

There are very few Pies I admire...Scott Burns is one of them. What a top footballer to have as a leader and role model.

Vanlo, I was thinkig ( this morning when I could..lol ) that this struck me too. There wasnt a real chasm between the teams . Not that I saw. Yet..they used opportunities ..we threw them away..

a good strong effort and hand ball deep in the forward line...not too much else. didnt seem to waste it, didnt have a massive day. (IMO). oh and a good mark 40 out which he passed off closer to goal. cant remember if they scored or not. but he knew his limitations it was smart football. DB really should be telling him, if you could kick 55 you would be a star, go and learn. because if he could mark on 50 and then kick the goal...

could do more. would have liked to see him drift closer to goals occassionally. him or bate...

As this seems a more 'overview' thread..and since ariseing to the land of the sober this morning many comments regarding the specifics are covered fairly well in the '"particular" threads.

Now Im not sure about yo all but often whenat a game I wil sometimes watch a particualr player or two in isolation for a while..and other times just watch the whole thing as an entirity. By that how the big monster that is a team is working ( or not )

Intensity up..and workrate up.. many wil say "surely the same thing" ..maybe I should describe it as "PRODUCTIVITY " up. i.e more seemed to happen.

There were more atmpts to shepherd. But whomever is teaching this craft..needs to furhter the cause with more lessons. Some just dont quite get it ( to me ) Sheperding is more than attempting to take out a path..its denying on-,moves..like in chess. There is more to sheperding than many realise.

I noticed the passing to contest was done with more 'belief' ...now we just need to do it with more "SKILL" Pin point passing is just that.. kicking it to a spot..not spots..or area..its to a definite place. Too many times the idea was there but ball overshot or fell short handing a turnover to the filth.

Sometimes when telling a joke my daughter wil say" Gone too far Dad !!" i.e I should have exited a line or two earlier. This is what the team does often in handballing. Many an occasion there are one or two give offs more than needed.. before it was kicked. The close in work is much better.. just need to know when to kick.

The forward line: Be good to have one probably. How often was that bal lbeing brought down and practically NO ONE was at teh sharp end. Many times teh ball got to or near the fifty and no options at all toward teh hot spots.

is this Mahoneys area ?? Mate step up..this is woeful!! Absolutely no organisationdown this end..and its where it ounts..all that hard work goes down the tubes time in time out.

Some players need to learn to lower their vision. All too often onthe rare occasions someone does get into position..its ignored.. Id rather a mundane goal anyday compared to a HERO point !!

Now this is picky.but when switching across ..do we need to do so quite so laterally ..Last week was beter in a fashion..it went more diagonally..unfortnately too far each time and landed in the dead flank. Keep it shorter like yesterday.. but more diagonal. Its results in a forward movement by stealth...often the difference of 30-40 m which is a possession pass equivalent.

There is more..but some still seems blured...lol

Miller was very good early, went missing in the third (when everyone else did) then did a little in the last.

Overall one of his best games, which isn't saying a lot but he is definitely improving so worth sticking with for the time being.

On Miller.. he has certainly come a ways.. thats good> Well he needed to , but he is trying..so well done. He really needs to egt that ball moving quicker on occasions. Yes..sometimes there's no one up ahead.. often there is. He needs to stop thinking so hard..and just DO !!
