  1. Some great positives. In training, attention perhaps shifts to: clean out of contests pressured disposal running out quarters point kickouts when to go slow/ go fast. Slowing opposition runs. some great link play. Excellent intent and pressure. A good first hit out with rays of sunshine, and stuff to improve.
  2. Sounds like fast and furious is the mantra of about 6 teams, if coach pressers are to be trusted...
  3. A point kick out that was not a disaster.
  4. Its nice that they give the work experience kiddies a go at umpiring (#5). I hope he is properly coached on that completely inept and biased performance. The joy at the The Grand Old Flag... loved it. And I select ads that say "Getting behind the team that are getting it right"....with a picture of Daisy. Very Classy. (Stay Classy, SanDiego).
  5. This umpiring is disgusting. 50m should be 30m, it works out to be 2 kick penalty too much panic and poor technique by Dees.
  6. The Australian article is worth the read. Not an apologist's arse wipe, like the other drivel about this case. When Hird took full responsibility he was on the right path. His advisers swooped in an whispered in his ear. He has not won a single appeal. He looks like a sullen schoolboy, now playing the victim. All of these idiots should have given him better counsel, rather than trying to turn him into a martyr on his death bed (or ICU bed).
  7. .....Who I hope have 10 lean years ahead of them.... would love to the the brown and yellow bandwagon tip over in the doggy do. Grimes goes with my thanks and best wishes: for what he gave the club, and also for making the space for us to evolve beyond him. Our next level to make finals is a significant step up from where Jack was at. I wonder....if we knew H was going, would he have been given one more year at Casey?
  8. This whole EFC thing is a joke. The Board is ultimately responsible from an organizational point of view for setting the culture and allowing stuff to happen with poor oversight. The CEO carries the can as responsible executive. As an analogy, poor Jimmy Hird is just the confused 'sales manager' promoted above his capability. He was a great sales rep, but a crap sales manager. He had no idea that everyone else was doing all sorts of stuff. He is, however, accountable for his actions and those of his direct reports. At a minimum his lack of awareness and ability to ask simple questions of what was occurring is astounding. He had a lovely trip to INSEAD to do a management course whilst everyone else copped the heat. Even there he failed to learn about responsibility and governance. Little Jimmy sales manager was happy to take credit for the results, but had no clue about anything else. Speaks of over-promotion and under preparation of JAH. The whole EFC needed a revolutionary clean out (Bellamys is having the same thing happen now). However, the lack of ownership and accountability of all involved (even the GIll-fish and Vlad) is most galling. Blame everyone else and take no responsibility. Play the victim. Defend the victim. Enough. They should have been put out of business, not have turned over half their list by the time sanctions rolled around, got first prize in the beauty contest (draft pick #1) and be ready to move into the 8 already. The AFL have a lot to answer for, letting the EFC get away with the equivalent of trading (morally) insolvent. The destruction of records is a willful, criminal act. The 'heads up' given to EFC by the AFL is complicit.
  9. I want us to play football that wins games, with a culture and style i can be proud of. Sociable to me and the rest of the Demon family, punishing on anyone who gets between us and what we want to do. Having standards that are player driven, sky high and clear can only help this. J Lewis might be exactly what helps us take our next real step
  10. Brilliant work. Thanks so much for taking these and sharing them with us. Love seeing these and reading the training reports at this time of year!
  11. Seems the formula is: do they have a superstar forward did they do well last year i don't think they have looked at forward units, but rather the superstar sum of parts. GWS looks scary. The dogs should get marked down for adding Choke. Hawks - a lot depends on Roughie coming back strong. Cyril is always Cyril, and their other forwards are more medium types that do well on the back end of superb midfield delivery ( which may not be there this year). Gald we are not Carlton. If Hogan was a superstar, rather than a potential superstar, we would be a lot higher. Also, we don't yet know how Goodie will play. Maybe he will have spencil in FP as rotating ruck (I doubt it, but who knows what he is thinking ??). Of all the teams, with a new coach and potential to burn, we are probably the hardest to judge.
  12. I would take that as a ladder position after the home and away games. Fourth for the pies seems high, but they do have class there. However, their rucks are spuds, so they must not have put much stock in these. And adding Wells with either be a master stroke or the Mitch Clarke moment of this draft. Doggies a bit over rated, a lot of their success came from half back. They have average rucks at best. GWS are just scary. glad we are not Carlton. Or Richmond. on potential, we are probably higher. Up to the dees to turn potential into performance, so we climb in the rankings next year.
  13. Unfortunately, it is not possible to judge what he does from outside. All we see is a cringeworthy toilet brush of an individual that talks like a muppet and wants to be half as good as his pathetic brother. He could be doing brilliantly on a whole series of other metrics that we are not privy to. however, these would include (at a guess): enhancing appeal and reach ( women's league, expansion teams, advertising and mercy revenues, china games) tv rights dealing with AFLPA internal staff operations and performance so, there may be many reasons why he is not paid enough.
  14. I wish him all the best. We will (have already) moved on. I think MFC handled it well, without too much angst or fuss. i dont think we are weaker with him gone- there seems to be significant competition for his position now. We now have one spot open on the senior list. Shame he couldn't have exited before the draft, but can we still take any DFA that we choose if we have space?
  15. I think if we kick 100 points per game, 60 from forwards and 40 from the midfield, we will be in a really good place in 2017. That would mean on average: Jesse 2 Watts 2 Garlett 2 Trac 2 Weid 2 and 6-7 from the spread of midfielders streaming forward. will be fun to watch! So Jesse gets 44 for the season.
  16. The list has now been turned over. We have seem some big (and not so big) names moved out, and some 'prospects' and talent moved in. Do you think we are better off? Are we better off now, or in 3-4 years? I think we have really rolled the dice on the youngsters we already have in the shed, and really done well adding Milkshake and Lewis. These make up for a lot of the experience moved out (Dawes, Grimes), but may add class. The draft seems to be about hail mary choices and strategic backups. Personally, I think we are going to be immediately better off, and also have set ourselves up to be better off in 3-4 years. I think it turned out to be an excellent off-season, overall (I think the Lewis trade turned it from 'good' to 'excellent').
  17. So Dion Johnstone was a preferred rookie pick for the bulldogs, and we nabbed him in the main draft? i think we have two picks, and have committed to Take Allsopp as a cat B rookie as well.
  18. I believe first round starts at 7 pm.
  19. So they know how to back winners. last time I checked, it was a free country and people were allowed to hold their own views and opinions. Whether or not I agree with them does not make them or their products 'suck'. It is perhaps this type of holier-than-thou attitude that led all of those who have been told they suck for holding a belief to rise up and put Trump in the White House? i have always had excellent experiences with New Balance, and would welcome them back.
  20. I suspect any DFA action for the Dees was flipped on its head with the special and unexpected snaring of Mr J Lewis. Any thoughts of needing to bring in 'experience' through the DFA is then moot. De Santo, Barlow, etc no longer required. i could really only see a fwd/ruck type ( maybe Hannath) added if he is better than what we can get in the draft. It will mean one more has to go, as we have to take 3 (including rookie upgrades) in the draft.
  21. Thanks and good luck Lynden - apart from against us. Our game style passed him by, more than his ability to 'play AFL'. The emergence of the fast attacking defender, quick decision maker and attacking switcher was not really in his repertoire. Taking the solid grab and kicking long down the line is a Collingwood tradition - and suits Dunns style. Our back line is going to evolve around Tmac, Omac and Frost as fast, mobile talls. They made lots of mistakes taking the game on in 2016, but when it worked, it looked like the basis of a style that Dunny no longer can deliver on. He has been fantastic, and I believe he was a real champion of our club in some very dark times.
  22. Thanks for your efforts at Melbourne. i love the fact that our team has evolved. I see the role he played is now superseded by Hogan. Our game style has evolved, and Chris helped us fill this void and allow Hogan to develop. With Hogan re-signing, he was surplus to needs. And we don't really know yet where Goody will take our structures and gameplan. We have limited places and specific needs. With Hogan, Weids and Hulett, and with Pedo in reserve, our young forward line has the pieces. A ruck/forward is the bit that is missing, to support Maxy. Mitch King will have a lot of admirers if he can step up into this role. Dawes, simply was overtaken in his role.
  23. This doesn't have to be win/lose. whorethorn need to rejuvenate, and move on players that will probably have 2 years or less at elite level. They still have heaps of 'experience'. Trade in for youth and talent, which they lack. Demons, with heaps of talent, trade in experience and a couple of years of elite/ near elite footy smarts, to work with a highly talented (but inexperienced) list. We pay a third year with a 50/50 chance that JL runs around at Casey, and takes a CrossType role. still doesn't explain paying big coin for Vickery, who I would have behind Fitzy on their list (and that is not very far forward!) Dees can get real value out of this. Cost us so little in the trade, and 3 years is perhaps a little long, but I reckon he will thoroughly prove his value.
  24. I think this is the sort of trade in we would chase if we thought we were right in the premiership window. We would want a pretty good deal to take him now. We would probably look at more of a 'developer' if we see our premiership window is 3-5 years away. It is a 'need', and if Sydney pay a hefty chunk of his salary, I wouldn't say no, but I think they will chase a developer for this role.
  25. I wonder if Clarko knows that the 2016 style/list was not going to cut it in 2017. Then he has to reinvent the game plan and find a way to deliver on it. We may think ( even hope) that the sky is falling for the whoresons, but perhaps all we are seeing is a pivot and evolution. interested in the Fagan comments. Let's see how that plays out up north, and at the Hawks. i'll get the popcorn and settle in, could be fascinating!
