  1. My take: We were hard around the contest, when there was one. The umpiring (Harmes gets smacked in the head for play on??) was Perth centric again We broke down particularly transitioning through half forward. having a tall roaming our here would have been awesome (instead of watching them crash into each other 20m out). Small forward would have added something positive. Some players had really off games. It happens. We were constantly caught out because of our errors and decision making failures. Take the risk, but have the skill to deliver on it! Our high push up style (to get men to contests) leaves the backline incredibly exposed. We can give up a few this way, if we can get them back the other way (which we rarely did). However, the backline looked inept at times - outmuscled, out-positioned, outworked. If Kennedy kicked straight, it was over much earlier. it is good basis for having a push at 2017, but there is a lot of tidying up to do before we will be a serious threat.
  2. Anyone there that can report? Very interested to know how they are working with the 'fringe' players, including Watts.
  3. I think a lot of the TMac discussion because his defensive acts mark him as AA. However, it is the exit kicking (time and again) that lets him down. If he had the vision/decision making/skill to exit more often to advantage, he would simply be a beast. That is what I want for him, and the dees. Turnovers that lead to goals hurt. we can also turn the blowtorch onto Bernie. That kick in to Jones that ended in a turnover goal was an absolute pie. at our next level, we rarely make these mistakes. I think 4 of their goals came from our efforts inside back 50. It might be ok against the blues, but come September, those are game killing mistakes.
  4. TMac makes really bad decisions with the ball. Cost us a couple of goals. lots of positives, but blues were witches hats.
  5. Might be the women's game that is on before it.
  6. Nah, no chance. I can't see changes in number until next year. Everything is printed and organized already, so why bother? H has left the building, so 8 stays empty until preseason 18.
  7. Rest: Hogan, Chunk, Vince, tmac, Viney, Gawn (rich Spencil and Watts), Run: Frost, Watts (if fit), Hibbs, Jetta, DIonJ, TIm Smith. Forward line of Wieds, Smith and resting (Watts/Pencil) Jetta and Hiiberd to half back, rotating into the middle Frost into backline. Oscar to take Tommy's role (good learning), Frost to run and carry Want to see: HB to HF transitions. Locking down our HF line Mean at the contest better kick out options Set play extractions
  8. Some great positives. In training, attention perhaps shifts to: clean out of contests pressured disposal running out quarters point kickouts when to go slow/ go fast. Slowing opposition runs. some great link play. Excellent intent and pressure. A good first hit out with rays of sunshine, and stuff to improve.
  9. Sounds like fast and furious is the mantra of about 6 teams, if coach pressers are to be trusted...
  10. Its nice that they give the work experience kiddies a go at umpiring (#5). I hope he is properly coached on that completely inept and biased performance. The joy at the The Grand Old Flag... loved it. And I select ads that say "Getting behind the team that are getting it right"....with a picture of Daisy. Very Classy. (Stay Classy, SanDiego).
  11. This umpiring is disgusting. 50m should be 30m, it works out to be 2 kick penalty too much panic and poor technique by Dees.
  12. The Australian article is worth the read. Not an apologist's arse wipe, like the other drivel about this case. When Hird took full responsibility he was on the right path. His advisers swooped in an whispered in his ear. He has not won a single appeal. He looks like a sullen schoolboy, now playing the victim. All of these idiots should have given him better counsel, rather than trying to turn him into a martyr on his death bed (or ICU bed).
  13. .....Who I hope have 10 lean years ahead of them.... would love to the the brown and yellow bandwagon tip over in the doggy do. Grimes goes with my thanks and best wishes: for what he gave the club, and also for making the space for us to evolve beyond him. Our next level to make finals is a significant step up from where Jack was at. I wonder....if we knew H was going, would he have been given one more year at Casey?
  14. This whole EFC thing is a joke. The Board is ultimately responsible from an organizational point of view for setting the culture and allowing stuff to happen with poor oversight. The CEO carries the can as responsible executive. As an analogy, poor Jimmy Hird is just the confused 'sales manager' promoted above his capability. He was a great sales rep, but a crap sales manager. He had no idea that everyone else was doing all sorts of stuff. He is, however, accountable for his actions and those of his direct reports. At a minimum his lack of awareness and ability to ask simple questions of what was occurring is astounding. He had a lovely trip to INSEAD to do a management course whilst everyone else copped the heat. Even there he failed to learn about responsibility and governance. Little Jimmy sales manager was happy to take credit for the results, but had no clue about anything else. Speaks of over-promotion and under preparation of JAH. The whole EFC needed a revolutionary clean out (Bellamys is having the same thing happen now). However, the lack of ownership and accountability of all involved (even the GIll-fish and Vlad) is most galling. Blame everyone else and take no responsibility. Play the victim. Defend the victim. Enough. They should have been put out of business, not have turned over half their list by the time sanctions rolled around, got first prize in the beauty contest (draft pick #1) and be ready to move into the 8 already. The AFL have a lot to answer for, letting the EFC get away with the equivalent of trading (morally) insolvent. The destruction of records is a willful, criminal act. The 'heads up' given to EFC by the AFL is complicit.
  15. I want us to play football that wins games, with a culture and style i can be proud of. Sociable to me and the rest of the Demon family, punishing on anyone who gets between us and what we want to do. Having standards that are player driven, sky high and clear can only help this. J Lewis might be exactly what helps us take our next real step
  16. Brilliant work. Thanks so much for taking these and sharing them with us. Love seeing these and reading the training reports at this time of year!
  17. Seems the formula is: do they have a superstar forward did they do well last year i don't think they have looked at forward units, but rather the superstar sum of parts. GWS looks scary. The dogs should get marked down for adding Choke. Hawks - a lot depends on Roughie coming back strong. Cyril is always Cyril, and their other forwards are more medium types that do well on the back end of superb midfield delivery ( which may not be there this year). Gald we are not Carlton. If Hogan was a superstar, rather than a potential superstar, we would be a lot higher. Also, we don't yet know how Goodie will play. Maybe he will have spencil in FP as rotating ruck (I doubt it, but who knows what he is thinking ??). Of all the teams, with a new coach and potential to burn, we are probably the hardest to judge.
  18. I would take that as a ladder position after the home and away games. Fourth for the pies seems high, but they do have class there. However, their rucks are spuds, so they must not have put much stock in these. And adding Wells with either be a master stroke or the Mitch Clarke moment of this draft. Doggies a bit over rated, a lot of their success came from half back. They have average rucks at best. GWS are just scary. glad we are not Carlton. Or Richmond. on potential, we are probably higher. Up to the dees to turn potential into performance, so we climb in the rankings next year.
  19. Unfortunately, it is not possible to judge what he does from outside. All we see is a cringeworthy toilet brush of an individual that talks like a muppet and wants to be half as good as his pathetic brother. He could be doing brilliantly on a whole series of other metrics that we are not privy to. however, these would include (at a guess): enhancing appeal and reach ( women's league, expansion teams, advertising and mercy revenues, china games) tv rights dealing with AFLPA internal staff operations and performance so, there may be many reasons why he is not paid enough.
  20. I wish him all the best. We will (have already) moved on. I think MFC handled it well, without too much angst or fuss. i dont think we are weaker with him gone- there seems to be significant competition for his position now. We now have one spot open on the senior list. Shame he couldn't have exited before the draft, but can we still take any DFA that we choose if we have space?
  21. I think if we kick 100 points per game, 60 from forwards and 40 from the midfield, we will be in a really good place in 2017. That would mean on average: Jesse 2 Watts 2 Garlett 2 Trac 2 Weid 2 and 6-7 from the spread of midfielders streaming forward. will be fun to watch! So Jesse gets 44 for the season.
  22. The list has now been turned over. We have seem some big (and not so big) names moved out, and some 'prospects' and talent moved in. Do you think we are better off? Are we better off now, or in 3-4 years? I think we have really rolled the dice on the youngsters we already have in the shed, and really done well adding Milkshake and Lewis. These make up for a lot of the experience moved out (Dawes, Grimes), but may add class. The draft seems to be about hail mary choices and strategic backups. Personally, I think we are going to be immediately better off, and also have set ourselves up to be better off in 3-4 years. I think it turned out to be an excellent off-season, overall (I think the Lewis trade turned it from 'good' to 'excellent').
  23. So Dion Johnstone was a preferred rookie pick for the bulldogs, and we nabbed him in the main draft? i think we have two picks, and have committed to Take Allsopp as a cat B rookie as well.
