  1. The AFL needed to make GWS more than just competitive. The have to win the thing enough times to make GWS a habit in the Western Sydney market. Seems to be working!
  2. Thanks, Saty. it can be a massive step up in level to the AFL. Surprised guys like Clarrie just keep on going ( even he was managed). Think Josh is a definite keeper, and showed some really good stuff early in the season. A nice rest, building his tank in the off season and getting ready for 2017 is in order. I think that there is a whole clutch of players that can come through as line-breaking half/back wingers, and another group of guys coming through as grunt inside mids. This should give us great flexibility and options, and should support the Kamaze game style. Just need to build the skills and awareness to reduce the errors.
  3. We don't have to do any delistings before the cutoff date. Due to Casey involvement, I would expect us to conclude our VFL commitments before 'exit interviews' are held on the fringe players who are still running around for the Scorps. I imagine everyone knows pretty much where they stand:. Contracted, uncontracted and likely to be recontracted, uncontracted and likely to be put on the market or delisted. i like what we did grabbing Weids and Olli and getting 12 months development into them, instead of picking up a kid this year who would take another 12 months to come on. If we go for Hibberd (likely, but no guarantee I would say) as our second rounder, do some upgrades, we use our mandatory 3 and go forward with a stable list. We should only shed what makes us weaker.
  4. Nah. Sure, we haven't had it easy, but most of it has been by our own design. We are creating something, and when we start to see the benefits of the list we are putting together (over the next two years, I would expect) we may become a destination club, and have sustained top of the ladder time. Geelong - massive father son advantages now paying off, plus 'go home' factor for a few exceptional players. And Mitch Clark. Hawthorn - Destination club, but are starting to look old and fragile. They have been up for a while, and keep getting free agency players etc, but have managed their circumstances well. Umpires still enthralled (Cyril) so always get the rub of the green. Swans - AFL simply have to keep them successful. When they are not, TV numbers are way down in Syd, a major market. Fremantle - Free-fall Fremantle? If they were up the top this year, would we be saying the same thing about them? GWS (and Suns) - had to be made a success, and fast. Fat PHIL was the answer. Our future is in our own hands. We have to be able to compete with, and beat, these clubs in season and in finals, when we do that consistently, we become one of these 'destination clubs' with all the good TV slots, admiring umpires, positive press and players wanting to win a flag with us. I believe PJ and Roos have set us up for this, now we just need our kids to grow into men. It is no use whining about the system. We just have to become formidable and beat it.
  5. Good luck to him. He only got a gig because the cupboard was bare at the Hawks for big men. He came in and did a Bradbury. List decisions have to be made. We made ours. Hawks needed coverage - showed it was a great decision. McEvoy due back for the first final, wonder if Jack will be back in the VFL?
  6. Shark attacks increase with ice cream sales. Should we ban mr whippy? There is a massive difference between causation (X causes Y) and correlation (X happens and Y happens ) we win more with Pedo may be a factual statement. But it is correlative, not causative. There is no evidence that we win because of Pedo. In analysis, we need to be very careful about how we use stats. These Pedo stats are interesting, but tell me nothing. if he was so fricken awesome, why was he playing at Casey? (Oh, they won...because of Pedo????) (ps, the link between ice cream and shark attacks relates to how both occur more frequently in hot weather as more people swim at the beach and eat ice cream)
  7. Thx. Didn't know he changed back before the start. Traditionally 2 teams, two jumpers. Glad we hadn't let that fundamental principle slip...
  8. Tex Walker is plying in a different jumper to his team mates. is this right? is it allowed? supposedly in solidarity with Betts. Means there are 3 different designs on the field!
  9. The way the game has changed in the last year or so, speed and a big tank are critical. We also need exceptional skills. It will be Goodie's call. However, when you look at the list, do you 'improve' it by replacing these two with untried or otherwise recycled players from outside? I would suggest that both would be useful to keep. Trenners can definitely use another preseason, and hopefully demonstrate the key skills that we know he can. He is great cover and potentially can push back into the first 22. Grimes would seem to need some additional skills, and does offer some experienced cover. So, unless we have eyes on specific needs, or can't attract quality offers (Wasn't Trenners worth pick 12 to the toigs?) - we should pop these guys on lower, performance based contracts and set them the task of working their way back into the 22.
  10. Exactly. Pump up his tyres. On a massive pay cut and no promises, I'd keep him for in club leadership and experience. i would say 'the future is in your hands, Chris'....but we know all about what happens to things that hit those hands....
  11. Open letter to you. no one at MFC will give two fccks about your nose being out of joint do you want to go one better and throw a banana at them? yes, we lost. Yes, it was crap. Don't you think they know these things? do they call for your advice often? sheesh.
  12. Port Adelaide will finish above us. They have GC to play and better %. 11th is our destiny.
  13. We don't have to have any loss. We simply snatched this loss from the jaws of mediocrity. When we are 'on' we are an exciting team to watch. When we are off, we are shocking. Today we were beaten at our own game, and then we were just too flat to respond in any meaningful way. It was a crap performance, but there is a lot to be positive about for next year. There will be some decisions made over the off season, and hopefully some more quality outside run and decision making will be pumped into the team. Goody can then get busy and put a quality preseason into the group. Pass for next year? 14 wins?
  14. At the start of the game, Kent was in the city end goal square, already limping. Why did we carry him into the game ffs? Looked like his ankle was shot, and he struggled to run even at the first bounce. where did Jesse start? Down back somewhere?
  15. Sheesh! I think I was going to get reported at the G for antisocial behaviour! in fact, our team should have been. They were flat all day. Smashed in the middle, smashed by the maggots, second to contests. How many times did Carlton intercept mark in our 50? Such poor entry into 50. they had their first goal in 50 seconds and we hadn't even touched it! when we did show up for about 10 minutes, we couldn't convert the pressure into scores. We are a young side, and maybe after the last few weeks we were out of puff. We are much better than we were, but this was a simply [censored] performance that was difficult to swallow. When Jack Watts missed that sitter, it was obvious we were screwed. Jesse needs to work on his kicking. If he was 3.1 rather than 1.3, things are very different. P1ssweak, demons. Instead of heading into the off-season with people lining up for memberships, you have reminded them that we are pretenders. A shameful day at the home of football.
  16. How did King perform? Did Joel Smith play today, or is he set up for tomorrow? Thanks for the updates KC!
  17. Bombers website announcing Hibberd want out. With all of the news flow that he is on his way to the Dees: what price? where do we play him? who does he bump from our best 22?
  18. On paper, Weidemann would get Wietering, and Hogan would get Plowman. I like Hogan at CHF, and Weid at FF. nibbler as small forward?? line by line we look better. We have to dominate the clearances to win this one. If we are soft at the contest we will give them a sniff.
  19. I would suggest the odds of that lineup playing on the weekend are astronomical. Is the Dev league playing? Assume King is still working his way up from there?
  20. Plapp's report highlighted Michies disposal effectiveness for Casey last week.
  21. Jeez, this one comment set this thread off. Who was it, what was their source, and how do we know it is even accurate? many here are already trying to map out the trade. Perhaps, if likely, it needs its own thread? loving the pressure that success at both levels is creating on players. Creating the habit of winning, building something special for Casey and Melbourne. Go Scorps, Go Dees!
  22. Kent- stupid costly errors. by my count, directly assisted 3 of their goals
  23. Apparently he loves it. Which makes him a Pedo phile (boom Tish!)
  24. I look forward to the day when our 'superstars' are untouchables and get the 50-50s their way. Cyril is a dirty, ball licking dog. He also has flashes of brilliance. I bet every hawk fan adores him. He pushes the line and gets away with heaps - big hits, spear tackles, iffy frees. the Hawks are so used to the umps being orally attached to their trouser appendages that Sam Mitchell whinges like a be-atch when things don't go his way. (Oh, and nice girly slap, Sam! I bet the tribunal laughed at you instead of giving you a penalty...) Tide is turning. Our turn will come.
