  1. Seriously if people want to have cheap shots at Saty why are you reading these threads go somewhere else and leave it to those of us who are very appreciative of getting some info on how the team is going. I live interstate and I really appreciate reading his training threads and getting the benefits of Saty's relationship with the players where his dedicated commitment as a supporter is rewarded by giving him information that a lot of people don't get. He doesn't need to make the effort to take the time to write this all up for those of us who can't get there. Seriously have a look at yourself and stop using these forums for an outlet for your own personal issues. Do us all a favour and just don't read them.

  3. Gee it was a joke and JKH did it as such, he was a good sport, he favorited it on Twtter and so did the Club, some on here really do need to get out more into the fresh air, Jack Viney did the same with his 'guns' photo,. Some of the comments verge on the ludicrous. Some of the players take the [censored] to my face, Col Garland being the most recent example on Wednesday, but it is a bit of fun, and we all take it as such, coz we are all adults They actually know I take an interest, especially in getting the injury issues correct, so I can ask and get an answer, including from Dave Mission It is no wonder the players are told not to read sites like this if some of the comments on this post are anything to go by

  4. Just ignore it. Am I the only one who gets sick of what's valuable and great about these training threads getting sidetracked by petty discussions of the form rather than the content? Comments about Saty and his questions/photos have been done to death, and presumably, everyone has had their say and pitched their tents. Time to move on.

  5. I thought we just needed to get 50 or 60 games into our high draft picks and then we'd be competing for premierships.

  6. I was contemplating the recent trade ins, draftees and now rookies, and its apparent that competition for a spot in our team has gone up several notches and will be hard to earn. That Lumumba, Gartlett, Frost, Hogan, are coming into the team, with the loss of just Frawley (Clarke we never really had) means several 2014 regulars won't get a regular game. That what many reported to be the hardest day of training at the MFC occured on the same day as our high pick recruits arrived was no co-incidence. It was intended to give them a rapid reality check that simply being a high draft pick won't get you into this team in 2015 - A mental and physical shock' for Demon draftees after brutal running session, that both our two prize pick in Petracca and Brayshaw were suitably humbled was the intention. That we just picked up two new rookies Aaron Vandenberg (aged 22, 188 cm, 90 kgs) and Mitchel White (aged 18, 188 cm, 85kg), both competing for midfield and flankers spots. That Grimes reliquished the Captaincy to focus on his football, read, staying in our best 22. All indicates that Roo's is consciously creating an high performance environment with intense competition for spots in the MFC 22, and that the bar is high and getting higher. It feels different to anything I've seen at this club for a long time, and bodes well.

  7. Give me a break. I would agree with you that In some circumstances a comment like that could be inappropriate. For instance a kids playground. But seriously, a professional football team training session which is open to the public. I have read on many occasions the players commenting on how cool it is to have a good number of supporters watching. I have been down only a couple of times and have found the players and coaching staff to be very friendly and open to having a chat. I've had the impression they appreciate the support from supporters and the interest. Nothing weird about that is there. Saty is known to the coaches and playing group as a die hard supporter who turns up on a very regular basis and gets information so that he can put it on here. They all know that happens with the info Saty gets. I have spoken to a Board member and the Board and the Club and for that matter the press know about Demonland being the main supporter forum for Dees supporters. As for JKH, are you serious. The kid knows he has to beef up to be competitive. He's clearly come back having put a lot of work into it. In that context do you really think he is going to find it weird that he's being complemented on the work he has done to make himself better prepared as a professional AFL player. He Liked Saty's photo on twitter. Enough said. Some people need to get a grip.

  8. Does every training report Saty posts have to derail into an assessment of how valuable/invaluable/cringeworthy he is? It feels like we talk about Saty more than the actual players. Can't we just read his reports and look at his photos, or not, as we each see fit?

  9. You know what you are going to get with Saty so I don't really understand the angst either. Love his work. I buy a Big Mac because I like it but I always throw away the pickle. Maybe some should try the same with Saty's reports ? It's not that hard.

  10. I'm a huge fan of Saty's work and I'd be lost without his training reports. On the same token, especially this week we've bought in 4 kids who are just 18 years old and have dreamed about footy their whole life. They've got media in their face all week, club officials wanting photos to throw out to us, the members to give us some hope and I imagine they'd be hammered by family and friends giving their two cents on how their following months will play out. My only concern was your new draftee is your classic 'yes' man just doing everything and anything because he's not sure what's expected of him. I'd hope supporters would give these guys a few weeks to acclimatise to AFL footy before we start taking pictures and asking them about their playing weight. They are simply young kids about to go on their dream journey, I don't see the need for us to hound them for quotes. I've just started a new job recently and the first few weeks are daunting as you often are in no position to say no.. you just want everyone to like the work you are doing whether you're snowed under for weekends of pointless work or not. I think there is a fine line between being supporters of the club and having an expectation that as soon as they come to the club who reads out their name, that they're available for pictures at our beck and call. There is an interesting case in the NFL at the moment where a popular running back Marshawn Lynch keeps getting fined because he's uncomfortable speaking with the media. He's just an awkward as hell guy who doesn't like it so he chooses not too. The NFL have responded by fining him $100,000. The sad truth is these athletes now have to speak to us so it doesn't surprise me when the players never say no to a chat or a photo.. The industry they're in doesn't allow them to get supporters offside especially in an era of social media. You say no to the wrong person and Twitter goes bang. I hope when Sat reads this he doesn't take it as a personal crack, it's more a general look at the sporting industry as a whole. It may be good money to play the game you love but there's far more to it than just football these days. God, imagine being a Collingwood player and dealing with their fans.

  11. The rain looked like it would hold off so I decided to walk my unemployed self to watch what was a very enjoyable to watch training sessions. I remember reading reports from Monday that the session was mainly focused on running drills. Today's session was all about skill drills and exercises. The main part of the session was based around five groups The five groups were as follows (apologises to those who were there if I missed anyone) Group #1 The Talls/Rucks - Jamar, Hogan, Pedo, Gawn, Fitzy, King, Vince Group #2 The Backs - Garland, Tommy Mac, Dunn, Oscar Mac, Frost Group #3 Mids - Salem, Jetta, Garlett, Cross, Tyson Group #4 More Mids - Toump, Grimes, Viney, Matt Jones Group #5 Even More Mids - N.Jones, Lumumba, JKH, Newton, (think Petracca joined for a while) The five drills were as follows Kicking drill - players would kick the ball to each other Goal kicking - receiving a pass and having a shot on the run Marking drill - players would attempt to mark against Hard Ball Gets - mostly just players bending over and picking up footys on the run Midfield drill I didn't watch New draftees were involved in some boxing exercises before spreading out to the other groups. Also worth noting that Mckenzie and Spencer were involved in these boxing exercises all session Kent, Dawes, Harmes and Terlich ran laps for most of the session After groups rotated around to each drill, players split into new groups and participated in new drills There was then a midfield drill involving roving where players would pair up and attempt to gather the ball before their opponent. Players involved included N.Jones, Tyson, Lumumba, Cross, Petracca, Salem, Neal-Bullen, Viney, M.Jones. Players like Jamar and Gawn would ruck for the pairs. The boys looked like they were having a lot of fun with this one. Some drool worthy match ups including N.Jones vs Tyson as well as Cross vs Lumumba. A highlight here was when Cross and Viney were paired up. Viney ended up reading the ball better than Cross and came out on top. A few boys also practiced shots at goal Toump, Howe, JKH, Grimes, Pedders Harmes and Fitzy. A great moment when Harmes missed a shot from a snap kick and Fitzy then showed him how to do it the right way. A number of players were also participating in some more boxing exercises, couldn't identify any. Dawes, Kent, Mckenzie, Spencer, Brayshaw and Stretch left early. Noticed the number 10 was on Brayshaw's bag as he was leaving. He still has that devilish smile on his face. A few points - Toump and Tyson looked on, really on. Both were marking and kicking well throughout the entire session. - Grimes looked a lot smoother than I remember seeing him - I love watching JKH gathering the ball, so smooth and silky. Could easily see him slip into the midfield next year. - Dawes was looking very fit (as an enthusiastic supporter noted) - Didn't see Watts anywhere, neither Bail

  12. Reasonable morning to watch training, pics will be up on my Twitter account Demonpk later Only 2 missing today Trengove and Roh Bail On modified program Watts, Terlich, Gawn, Spencer, Riley, McKenzie, Kent, Dawes, Harmes, Stretch, Brayshaw and to some extent Bernie Vince After the physical pounding they took on Monday, today was more about ball work, there was an interesting one being run by Ben Mathews with chain passing and it was being timed, there was another goal kicking one where they received the ball from a backwards kick from the pocket into a central position about 40 out There was also a lot of work going on with picking up ground balls Answer to a burning question, Dave Misson said it would ideal if Petracca played at around 90-92kg, he is 94 at the moment, Angus Brayshaw said he would like to play at 88kg, so yes a pair of big boys. Keeping with the new boys, I asked Billy Stretch, said he hasn't been doing a lot of extra work, just the normal footy traiinig, he said it was genetic from his old man, thinks he will have to put on some bulk. Alex Neal Bullen was a State rep in distance running so he has the tank, says his main focus will be increasing his speed, Oscar McDonald is enjoying it, relishes the hard work like his bro One person bouncing around today was Dom Tyson, so at the end asked how he was going, the smile when he answered was blinding, just pumped to be injury free and able to do every session, really enjoying the coaching, learning so much, looking at going up another notch this year and knows he needs a full pre season to do that Had a joke with JKH about his musclebound physique, which he thought was funny, persuaded him to do a 'guns' pic, will be on Twitter, a good sport Any questions feel free

  14. Well said BD. As I said in an earlier post the Hird/EFC properganda machine has been in full swing in the lead up to the Tribunal hearing in the hope they will influence its outcome. The pattern is very familiar, developed over years by the tobacco industry in their denial about smoking causes cancer and now used extensively by the fossil fuel industry in promoting the so called climate denialist case against climate change. It goes something like this. In the face of overwhelming evidence, pay some tame so called scientist large amounts of money, usually through a so called research institute set up by themselves, and sponsor "in depth studies" which deny the science. Then use their expensive PR machines to discredit the science via their lackies usually in the Murdoch Press and Channel 10. Then claim the science is in dispute. Unfortunately, both in the case of tobacco and climate change the overwhelming evidence is statistically based so there is a fractionally minute possibility that it could be incorrect so this is blown completely out of proportion via these studies. Gettin back to Hird and Essendon...they are latching on to issues such as the doubt about Charter's willingness to appear at the tribunal as an indication that asada's case is about to collapse and then gets tame journalists to write nonsense articles in the AGE and the HS that the whole case is about to be thrown out, presumably rather than in exchange for money which happens for CC and tobacco, in exchange for access and privileged information. The case is not about to collapse - ASADA has more than enough evidence already collected for the case to be successful. And even if it were, then it would be taken up by WADA and heard in CAS under European law away from the political interference and hidden agendas so apparent in Australia. Interestingly, those journos who really know what's going on here and come to it with no baggage, Patrick Smith and Caro Wilson, so far as I am aware haven't written about this so called collapsed case at all in the lead up to the tribunal hearing. They have let their more niave colleagues make fools of themselves, or in the case of Mark Robinson, just continue to make a fool of himself and continue to show why he does not have the integrity or the competence to continue as Chief Football Writer for the HS. MIKE Sheahan must be shaking his head in dispare.

  15. It occurs to me that one of the rationales for the recruiting on "mature" mids in Riley, Mitchie, Vandenburg, Cross, Vince over the past couple of years is to relieve the pressure on our high draft pick mids having to play and perform before they are ready or at the expense of their medium term fitness and confidence in their talent. My opinion is that its rare for a kid to walk into an AFL list and be fit and resilient enough to play a season in the middle. I think it takes until their third season (third pre-season) for them to be at AFL level fitness without inducing a injury, or form drop that affects their confidence. Trengove - pushed too hard too early, developed foot issues then confidence drop Toumpas - pushed too hard too early, developed hip issues then confidence drop Tapscott - hip issues never able to impose on field, confidence drop Watts - pushed too hard too early, unable to impose then confidence drop With JKH, Salem, Viney, Hogan and now the new crop of kids we have and now should be able to give them time to develop their bodies to AFL level before they are expected to step up to AFL level intensity and performance. Hogan, through a training related injury has had two years of development at the club in the reserves or in rehabilitation, and while him playing in 2014 would have been great, it may have hindered his medium and long term ability. When we talk about getting development right its having the depth of list such that your talented kids have to be properly physically and mentally prepared BEFORE they play at AFL level, simply because if they're not others will take their spots.

  16. Not going to go on about it, my only comment is that if he is telling players on our list - particularly very young ones who are just settling in - things that I (and maybe the club?) thinks they should not be being told by a supporter on the sidelines, "don't read it" isn't much of a solution. No doubt you don't agree that he's doing anything harmful and you think I'm being precious. Fine. It's my view, and I shall put it forward, just as you have put yours forward. I love reading the reports. I love that he's got the confidence to say g'day to the players and have a chat; I wouldn't be able to do it. I hope he doesn't stop. I just don't like him saying "the supporters all reckon you're struggling", or "the supporters all think you're overweight".

  18. Funny how the media noise reaches a crecendo then drops away as each element to this saga comes to light. The last couple of days have been typical froath and bother from a pack of rabid dogs. The reality is they are paid to create sensation and as much as I dislike it that is the fact. Sometimes it is hard to see through to the facts underneath but in this case just cast your mind back to a retired federal court judge and American experts in WADA matters reviewing the case and both reaching a conclusion, that it is a strong case. If the case hinged on the evidence of one or two potentially hostile witnesses they would have seen it and would have highlghted that risk. These peoples assessments would not have been made on some yet to be heard testimony of Charter and Alvi but on the statements and documents contained in the brief. They are still in the brief and are admissible regardless of whether these two testify. Alvi wants to keep his licence to practice pharmacology so he wont testify unless he is forced, he has niothng to gain and lots to loose. Charter likewise has nothing to gain and lots to loose in terms of being forced to make statements that may negatively impact on his fight against the charges against him. Nothing has changed since those birefs were reviewed except that the weight placed on Alvi and Charters evidence may be reduced as they cannot be cross examined. What may be interesting is if Dank decides to provide evidence to the defence. That would be worth hearing.

  19. A lot of water and I mean a LOT of water has flowed under the bridge at jolimont since '64. Every month, day, year doesn't go past when I think today is the day when I start to believe we are on our way. Every time I walk away disappointed. What did happen to those once Mighty "Dees'? Well for starters they retired, some have already fallen off the perch. Then I realise the pride of the jumper has been dragged through the dirt for way too long. The saviours have come and gone. My childhood heroes are now but a mere distant memory. Going to the "G' packed with a sea of red and blue, listening to the roar of our loyal passionate crowd, the hairs of the back of my neck would stand up, when the roar rocked the "G". The cheer squad in full voice, rivalling any opposition's cheer squad. It was something to be proud of, even if we didnt win, I could leave knowing the boys had given it their all, the supporters had yelled themselves hoarse urging the team. We are a proud club, we hate to lose, for so many years, losing wasn't part of our culture. We took a loss on the chin, and bid the opposition a friendly goodbye, but deep down the hurt of losing was eating away inside. (laugh now you bastards), wait until next we meet. We were gracious when we mauled another team, yeah we could rub it in with the best of them, but the norm was to be humble and say 'better luck next time". When really we meant, wait unti the next time, we will slaughter you worse that what you got today. Some of us grew up being used to winning, and being successful. That's why we were the "Mighty Demons". Proud, successful and ruthless. The bolts on the wheels needed to be replaced, by the time anyone stopped to check, a wheel fell off, then another, before we knew what or where we were, the bandwagon was in disarray. We had been far too content for far too long, just coasting along basking in the glory. Then it was left for far too few, to do way too much. Our younger supporters were, and are from strong passionate Demon families, they hear all the stories of days long gone. Some blackmailed, some followed in vain hope seeing and hearing the passion in the voice of their old man, and were sold up the river. Next year son, next year, wait and see, we will do better next year. The old man in some cases may no longer be with us, the sons and daughters now have their own familes. The tradition continues, they pass on the stories of our past heroes. Next year will be better, just wait, you'll see. Now some of the new generation know nothing but being laughed at school, and or at work. For some it was just too much, they jumped ship, or denied they even liked football. Some start to question were all those stories that had been passed on, just a myth? were they making it all up? Did we realy have the MCG to ourselves? They say its our home ground, but why do other teams play as many games as we do? Was it once filled in red and blue? Did we really have more at a game and most other teams? Still some refuse to sway, their parent's parents were passionate Dee supporters Every year their hopes are up with every highly prized recruit. Every time, their hopes take another 'hit' as the new found star fails to make any impression. You know its hit rock bottom, when your loyal pet dog, chews up his Demon scarf, then growls, threathening to chew of your arm if you get within a cooeee of it.Surely the dog hasnt turned?, what about throwing the stick in the park? Feed on time, every night, without fail.Ok, maybe seeing me about to kick in the TV, or paying out on nextdoors cat is having a profound impression of my once docile rockweiler (rockie)."It's ok boy. its me, the Dees are on the improve. Once again, greeted with a snarl. Here we are once again, another new draft. Some more talent added to the list, some delisted to make room for the future champs of the club. The dog seems a little more upbeat, as we throw the ball. me kicking the ball, still trying to be Robbie Flower,to a leading Hoges, and nail a pinpoint pass to 'rockie' but instead of the ball sailing through the goals for his 7th goal. I only see it disappear into the distance, dog slobber all over it. Then call him back, and we head off home. I reassure him, the Mighty Dees will be mighty once again. He gives me a lick and we walk off, can't wait for the new season to begin. His new xmas present is a new MFC scarf. We love this time of the year. Full of hope, and promises to be our best for a long time. The prized photo of the old man with the great Norm Smith hangs proudly. I stop and stare, then refelct back. I think to myself we WILL be the "Mighty Dees" once again. I have witnessed success at the top, now its time for all those that haven't to be able to share that feeling. Your kids going to school, prouding wearing a red and blue jumper, not a peep from anyone, for they know the Dees are the Mighty Demons.

  21. I followed the link expecting to see some evidence of "groupthink" about Sam Frost as a player and in particular, to find anything remotely resembling the hysterical about face of many Saintsational posters over McCartin's selection at # 1 instead of Petracca. Instead, I found some vigorous debate centred more on whether or not the deal struck for Frost was a good one for the club. Like some at the time, I thought we had possibly given away too much for the player but the outcome in terms of who we picked at 40 and 53 looks good to me at the moment. Of course, we won't know for some time. You really need to ditch this groupthink line. It means little in this context, does nothing to add to debate and anyway it's not borne out in the discussion you provided by way of example.

  22. I loved his comment about the Bulldogs and McCartney. "They were on the right track". I get the sense that Roos' deliberate, slow 3-5 year evolution at the Dees is significantly similar to what was happening at the Bulldogs. As soon as he was sacked Rood swooped because the philosophy of club and list rebuild is so much alike. I am neither here nor there about John Ralph but I love Roos' direct answers. He might be a new age sensitive kinda bloke but underneath that he is aggressive, determined and steel minded. I was not a real Mark Neeld fan either but it was great to hear Roos be so open about him. He was a tough coach in the wrong place at the wrong time. McCartney the same.

  23. Lol, another Demonland thread descends into farce. Saty's training reports and banter with the players is interesting, but must admit I cringe at the odd thing such as the JKH guns incident, but you just have to let it go through to the keeper.

  24. While I thoroughly enjoy Saty's training reports and appreciate it hugely as I can never get there myself, a comment like this: "Had a joke with JKH about his musclebound physique, which he thought was funny, persuaded him to do a 'guns' pic, will be on Twitter, a good sport" is weird and completely unnecessary. Imagine a grown man going up to a kid and asking for a picture of his 'guns'. That sends shivers down my spine. If the bloke just stuck to giving us a report about how the boys went at training and nothing else then we wouldn't have these problems each time we get a training report. It's human nature to respond the way CB did as what he put was cringeworthy and, frankly, has nothing to do with training.

  45. I like to drip feed who I talked to if they get mentioned, similar to Russian, Fitzy is fit and firing and hasn;t missed a session, if he gets though he is another one who will have their first full preseason, his marking was impacted by the shoulder issues he had in the past, which are now fixed (same with Tommy Mc), on the goalkicking drill hardly missed, but being Fitzy couldn't resist at the end practicing the checksides, he didn't miss one of them either... I posted the other week, we have quite a few 'forgotten" players who are finally getting in a full preseason....the competition for places is going to be fierce,, hoo bloody ray finally Speaking of which I also spoke to Jack Grimes, he made the decision to stop being a co captain because he knows the competition is finally going to be there and he needs to improve his on field output, he is in great nick as well, hasn't missed a session
