  1. Thought some might be interested to know that the West Coast Eagles have tabled a 6 year offer to Chad Warner which is front loaded with the early years at $2million per year. WCE are stacked with Draft picks in next year’s Draft, so expect it to happen.

  2. I don’t like the whole we have to find him a Victorian girlfriend thing but Judd’s girlfriend is a Dees player. She’s a Vic gal. I ran into Kolt at the AFLW Hawks vs Port final (he was wearing a Hawks scarf but we’ll let that slide since his girlfriend plays for Hawthorn) and I mentioned that Judd is “dating” Lily (Johnson). Kolt was quick to say they’re not just dating, they’ve been together for a while and it’s serious. So there’s that.

  3. Being given #10 came as a big surprise to Disco, totally unexpected. This is because there was talk of one of the new boys getting it (probs Harvey) and he thought it had been decided. He’s humble and very grateful to be wearing the number of a much-loved Club champion. There was consultation with Gus before the decision was made.

  4. He is not going to get anywhere doing that The trainers took the rear view mirrors off the bike later in the session. Since then, Rick hasn't looked back.

  6. I can't see Reid staying at the Eagles. Leaving aside the go home factor, they are years away from being a genuine flag contender. Arguably the tigers are closer given their incredible bounty of top end draft picks. Maybe he says, come with me boys, I'll take you on my back to the promised land. But I think it's more likely he'll leave when his contract is up for a Victorian club that is the premiership window. If so, it could be a win win for the Eagles like the Judd - Kennedy scenario as, assuming no injury issues, clubs will pay through the nose for him - and for good reason, kid is a genuine star (though given how AFL ready he was physically, he's pretty close to his ceiling already I reckon- a bit like Ollie Wines when he was drafted). On Kennedy, I just checked the Eagles all time goal kicking list. Incredibly he is leading it by 199 from Darling and 200 from club legend Peter Sumich.

  7. I reckon they don't expect Reid to stick around, so they're going early so as to convince Reid and others.

  10. I’m old enough to remember when Robbie Flower burst on the scene as a spindly bespectacled 17-year-old from Murrumbeena in 1973. His spectacular 272 game career with the Demons is a well documented one. We lost him 10 years ago, all too young at 59 years of age. There was some excitement in the early 2000’s when his son Brad appeared on the scene with the Oakleigh Chargers but he lacked the height and size to make it to the big time and only got as far as the odd game at Sandringham VFA, mainly with their reserves (circa 2002). Now, the grandson Jett Flower has been picked up at Coates Talent League level. Unfortunately, there’s no grandfather/grandson rule but we wish him luck!

  14. Anyone could remind Judd that all 17 other clubs overlooked him and it was the then Premiers who took the punt on him at pick 18 in the rookie draft😉

  15. I agree the jury is still out on Jefferson. But disagree that that his body and form was not adequate to get a game late last season. It appears that perspective is based on him not being selected when there was 'effectively nothing was on the line'. I think that is an incorrect assumption. The exact same argument could have been made about JVR in 2022. But wasn't because few questioned his talent or competitiveness. We were screaming out for a key forward at the end of the 2022 season yet didn't select JVR, despite his good form and seemingly being physically AFL ready, because they obviously prioritised his development - which JVR acknowledged in 2023 was the right call. Yes, jvr only had one season at VFL level, and Jefferson has had two, but he was also miles ahead of jeffo physically when he was drafted. Jefferson's second half of the 2024 VFL season was terrific. He would have acquired himself fine if he had been called up, and on form alone he would have deserved selection. But just as was the case with JVR, the club's focus was his development. So no call up. And no need for any miraculous transformation. It's instructive that Goody had already said Jeffo is very likely to selected early in the 2025 season.

  16. Harry Sharp has looked good from day 1. Glides around the field, comfortable with ball in hand, he is not disturbing the pecking order as he is keeping a humble and happy disposition. Howes started preseason with the occasional fumble and misskick. I feel a few may have jumped above him. Today he had a good run at it. Hoping he is finding some confidence from it. His body is looking taller and stronger.

  17. If we kept Harris we'd probably lose Georgia Gall and right now I think the time is right to keep Gall with the offer of a good contract and more game time and let Tayla walk. She'll do well for the Hawks for a year or two before probably falling away. We've still got Zanker and Bannan for experienced talls (or at least experienced for AFLW) as well as Gall, Georgia Campbell and I hope Aimee Mackin is back in 2025 for another quality medium forward. Tayla has poor discipline as she so often gives away cheap free kicks and poor commitment. She continues to prioritise boxing and other interests over her footy preparation. We got the best out of her and a flag, but I'm not disappointed at all that we are moving on even if it signals the list is in a rebuild.

  18. There were a lot of misconceptions about her departure from Carlton, which I had a long conversation with both her and her mother about a couple of years ago. She didn't want to leave Carlton, she was delisted. She also told me the figure being quoted in the media about what she was demanding was not remotely true. She came to Melbourne at the lowest pay rate available, by her own choice, and opted to focus purely on her football. Her first season at Melbourne saw her as the second highest goal kicker in the league and finished second in the club best and fairest behind Daisy Pearce. Her second season saw her playing more a ruck/midfield role, so less goal scoring opportunities, yet, she kicked the winning goal in the grand final. Her mother told me that if it was up to her, she would have stayed with Melbourne after the exhibition games, but in Lisa's words, it was Tayla's choice, and ultimately she was happy she was at Melbourne. I don't think it would be Tayla's choice to leave Melbourne, I'd say it's possibly Melbourne exploring possible trades. Which disappoints me somewhat, if true. But then nothing official has come from either Melbourne or Tayla, and I take the media speculation with a grain of salt.

  20. He had a poor pre-season last year due the foot injury against North in 2023. The good news - he completed the full session yesterday. We may have a very handy swingman in 2025.

  21. I don’t believe an offer has been tabled, but they have certainly been active for some time and I suspect will ramp up their intensity should Judd commence the year strongly. Warner is their clear priority.

  23. Happy for him to play both ends depending on match ups and how the game is progressing. And he did play at both ends in the same game this year. (The Port win) And I’ll always remember the Brisbane final in 2022 when they threw him up forward and he almost turned the game with a couple of snags. His versatility is what makes him a valuable player.

  24. After believing he was tied to us, then being told otherwise that he wasn’t (should’ve verified that info better) have just been told that Toby Sinnema is indeed tied to us and we will have priority/access to match a bid on him if he’s good enough in the 2025 draft👍🏼

  25. I was introduced to Toby this morning. He’s 16yo and lives in Hampton Park. His mum is Chinese, his dad is Dutch. He’s hoping to be picked up by us in next year’s draft. He loves training with the boys, they’ve made him feel really welcome and he loves how far the coaches push them during training. He’ll be training again this Friday and again “a week after the holidays” which might mean on the 9th of January when they all resume or maybe he means the week following that one. He’s a well-spoken, friendly and polite kid.

  26. At AFL level you don't get silver service against the good teams. Forwards have to be able to win their own footy when the ball isn't to their advantage. That's what makes you a quality key forward. It's not easy to do. Good ball movement certainly helps, but you need many more strings to your bow than relying on a game-plan. You need smarts, athleticism, aggression and courage to become a gun key forward. And you need to become a gun to carve out a successful career. van Rooyen will get better and better with experience, because he has the traits to make it. I'd back him to become elite or close to it. Jefferson ? It's an important year to see what's in his makeup. He's coming from a long way back.

  27. If Petracca did decide he wanted out at years end, you couldn't be more certain of anything other than the MFC will be making an enormous offer to Harley Reid and sending the picks from a Trac trade to the WCE to get it done.

  28. Thanks Goodwindees, makes a lot of sense. Hearing Bombers will offer Reid a massive deal and also have 2025 picks and future picks to get a deal done makes sense for West Coast to offer Warner that sort of deal in advance

  30. Her courage is easily mistaken for strength. I'm amazed she's lasted this long, because she never fails to go and, as you say, is repeatedly thrown around by much larger footballers. In the early years of AFLW her guts and desire to do the team-oriented thing meant she held her own. I reckon she's improved her disposal - or at least got better at playing within her limitations. But she's never been a great kick. As the competition has improved, sadly for her, but probably happily for the competition, lots have gone past her now. I'll be sad to see her go, because I think she's the sort of person who others love to play with and be around. And she's just fun to listen to. Taking out sentimentality, though, you're right: she's not in the best 20 anymore.

  33. The best kick in the draft someone said I think. XL's leadership was obviously a huge plus fir rhem, unsurprising given we've lost gus and nibbla. But what I found really interesting was Taylor's comment that XL connected with everyone, 'including staff' etc. That sounds very much like gus. Every organisation needs such people.

  34. I mean I don’t want to lose him but let’s not get hysterical over it. The thing that annoys me in a situation like this if it comes true is West Coast and Freo didn’t draft him and had the chance. We’ve drafted him and developed him and given him the opportunity to be where he is today, and then the first contract post that “I’m home sick”. Let’s hope it’s all BS.

  36. Melbourne are prepared to offer Judd a deal to 2029 like they did with JVR. They’ll be happy to accomodate another 2 years though if that’s all he wants. He’s very happy at the club and also has a partner who plays in AFLW side.

  37. Yes I agree - Petty was disappointing last year but was coming back from a significant injury. And right from the start his accuracy was not there (which was a strength for him in 2023) Having said that, he was still 11th in the league for contested marks in 2024 and played less games than everyone ahead of him other than Charlie Dixon. I think another big body is needed around JVR - not sure if Disco or Jefferson are there yet? Maybe AJ is the answer? For this reason I think they will want to use Petty as a utility - if May, TMac, Lever hold up then he is not needed in defence.
