  3. Hes had a couple of quiet games... three games ago he had 19 possessions, 10 marks and kicked 5 goals. The game before that he had 20-11-5. Give me a break.

  8. better last year when we lost to the Pies and North twice who were in terrible form. Just beat Carlton and lost to a terrible Freo at home? we are far better than last year and it will show at the end of the year. we are finally beating the average teams and a couple of wins against the good teams are just around the corner

  10. What is everyone's obsession with the draft? We have been there for years and we have got a heap of top end talent that is still young and developing. I'm not saying we completely ignore the draft, but the fact is we are now entering our premiership window, time to load up on ready made players to fill the holes we need to win it all.

  11. And that is EXACTLY what the difference is with our so called "stars" Real stars of the game live for the big moments, whereas most of ours seem to overawed in every big game we play. If only the entire side were as consistent as Oliver, regardless of opposition, we would be world beaters.

  13. Tom McDonald was interrogated from media yesterday and he told them it was none of their business and it was his decision or similar, said he’d be right for Saints and he was OK. Sounded quite bristly and I’m unsure where he’s at. May be some media today but it was quite funny. Basically said [censored] off

  15. I agree with others Billy Stretch hasn't performed well consistently at the higher level. Billy had a solid start to last season. His form since then hasn't been inconsistent in the seniors. He's 21 and only now starting to build a better frame for AFL. Clearly he drives standards in our young players in training and has a lot to offer there. I think we saw the FD persevere with playing him more the first few years due to Roos wanting to get AFL games into young players wherever possible while we were building. I think its now a deeper team and the opportunities aren't as easy for Billy. I truly believe he has the ability to be best 22 as he matures. I feel he's the type of player who could build into a really reliable player who doesn't star but you know what you get from him every week playing on a wing or HB/HF.

  17. but club admin, mfc shop and social club are not at aami additionally aami is bursting at the seams so as we increase the size of the football dept and facilities there is nowhere to grow additionally at aami we are just a lowly tenant (and not the only one) and have no say in any aami future development aami is not a long term option (nor mid term)

  18. what would be useful would be an independent web site that put up videos of contentious decisions and invited discussion on them there are just too many bad or missed decisions that don't get adequately discussed (unless someone like clarko, eddie, terrible twins whinges) publicly and the afl are just happy to let them slip through the cracks the media are also very remiss (know which side their bread is buttered) in discussing/assessing umpiring in a comprehensive way despite the fact that it is one of the fans major interest focuses/frustrations. they should be able to openly assess it weekly without it becoming a witch hunt the spotlight needs to be put on the rules and umpiring, the fans are getting increasingly disillusioned at the inability of the afl to apply (or even define) the rules of the game both fairly and in a manner that fans and players alike can understand

  19. The last 2 weeks have not concerned you at all Wise? when the pressure is applied, and i mean Real Pressure, The MFC falls away.... have been doing it for decades. We are now a mid table club, but until the club learns to smell blood and go in for the kill, regularly, that is as far as we will go. Our list is still over rated. It still contains lots of potential, but top end leadership is not there. For all the good work last week, from the 17 minute mark of the 3rd Quarter we failed to score a goal, with 68 inside entries. That is a massive problem against real pressure.

  21. Brereton made the observation within the game. Did the coaches fail to do that or did Jesse play a different game to their instructions? The quicker it's sorted the better because Hogan playing as a KPF would've quite likely have meant the 4 points went to us. I love Hogan as much as anyone but brushing this off as nonsense is a nonsense in itself.

  22. Warming up here... 30 degrees at 8am. A 5pm start for the Aussies will be very warm. Hoping to find a nice bar to watch in the aircon. The Colombian match was a wipeout from a spectating viewpoint. Think of yourself in the middle of a Collingwood cheer squad 30,000 strong all on their feet for 80% of the game. I suppose I should be thankful that they left their vuvuzelas at home. As an aside the TV coverage is always showing the pretty young ladies in the stands. In reality the crowds are 80% male if not higher. The VAR is starting to dominate games. Cannot think of many sports where scoring is so hard which makes for real tension when the ref goes off to watch the TV. Wonder why soccer doesn't try more onfield referees. A relatively stationary ref at either goal plus the roving ref springs to mind.

  25. We have a different team and structure to the one that lost to Hawthorn and Richmond. And we haven't even played Sydney. Hawthorn lost to Brisbane FCS. Are they one of the "good teams" you're referencing ? Sydney have lost at home to North, Port, and the injury plagued Adelaide. Are they this infallible outfit ? Richmond were beaten by Port one week before us. And they never had the numbers we put up against Port. I don't think there are any great teams in the competition. And I certainly don't think a mentally fragile team wins 18 quarters in a row. The most quarters in a row Hawthorn have won in their history is 13. Do you know how many flags they've won in the last 50 years ? There were plenty of crap teams they were coming up against during this period, so it's lazy to reference our opposition during that streak. We're far from perfect, but I don't buy this "mentally fragile" BS. When you smash a team like we did against Port and you don't get reward for effort on the scoreboard and you leave the door open you're a chance to have what happened to us happen. Especially in that type of environment interstate.

  26. Our biggest issue ? It's going to sound simplistic and it's not the only issue, as there are others, such as Lever going down, Garlett not playing to his best, and not enough goals from our mids, but for me it's Petracca not only stagnating, but going backwards. GWS are not the same team without Toby Greene. Collingwood are a far better team now that De Goey has elevated himself. Caddy's rise has been huge for Collingwood. Caddy has kicked 28 goals and averages only 2 disposals less than Petracca. De Goey has kicked 17 goals and averages 2 disposals less, but is far more impactful with his 18 disposals than Petracca's 20. Petracca has kicked 9 goals from 12 games and just isn't impacting games the way he can. Imo, if Petracca had taken the next step as a player we would have won more games. As I said at the start, there are multiple reasons that have adversely affected performances, but for me Petracca's ordinary year is at the top. Match winners can make a huge difference. He should be ours.

  27. We have competed with the best. There is strong evidence. We performed really well in three quarters against Geelong, Richmond and Port putting ourselves in positions to win those games. I thought we were really unlucky against Port with a few things not going our way in the last quarter (injuries/bad calls in crucial moments). I definitely think this team has competed with the best and has put them selves in line to beat the better teams. The small sample this season is enough proof I think. This team is in no way polished or settled. There's still so much room to improve which is exciting as a supporter. The areas in which we need to improve are clear and in front of us.

  28. I agree. That said, and this is not meant to be knock on hogan, but what i think we lack atm is a player who by force of will drag us over the line. All great teams have one, sometimes two, such players. Im thinking of current players like selwood, Dangerfield, dusty, kennedy, sloane and buddy. Playets that impose themseves on the game and do the extraordinary when most needed. Thw closest we have is viney, but whilst he will aways give 120 per cent he probably lacks the class. I would love hogan to be that player. Oliver has the potential to be that player and you'd hope trac also (but it has to be said he would need to go up a level).

  29. If I recall, nearly all the big trees there are elms, ie introduced, not native. I believe most councils grant permits for felling them more readily than for natives. Because natives good, foreign bad. So our deal is, for each elm chopped, we plant TWO natives. Also free bike parking for councillors, free car parking for recalcitrant planet hating polluting car driving councillors, a wombat sanctuary and a ban on plastic bags.

  33. The Cup that keeps on giving. Unbelievable drama to finish off Group B. You can’t script this stuff. Missed penalties, VAR intervention, cracking goals. Iran almost sent Portugal packing, a one on one at the death and fluffs the shot wide. Iran would have topped the group. Agony!!

  37. Word from my contact is that Tom Mc did not pull up very well from the bump on Friday night and was not looking or feeling too flash on Saturday night. His/her opinion was not to lock him in as a definite for this weekend at this stage. I am hoping the extra couple of days may help.

  38. It looks like we may have to cut out a small chunk of the scoreboard and a fair section of the stadium roof. MCC not gonna like that. Not to mention all those cars we'll flatten. Maybe we can sort a compensation package through Zurich?

  42. Roos was quite harsh on Jones in his book. Before Roos and for a long whilst under Roos, Jones had the impression that he almost single handedly had to carry the team. The more contests he went for, the more stats he accrued, would somehow translate into a win. He would fight Roos over this. I feel he's gone back again and is returning to this mindset/ignoring the coaches and playing how he thinks he should play. Maybe he's still upset with Viney being named as co-captain?

  45. Showed on Footy Classified 2 occasions, 1 by Jones, 1by Brayshaw, totally ignored Hogan and bombed to Port player sitting by themselves in backline. They’re stupid stupid stupid these morons, we should have won that game on Friday by 4-5 goals. We were easily the better team on the night, it was just brainless decisions by midfielders that cost us, and Garlett needs to come back in side to replace Hannan.... bloody disappointing loss

  46. I'm still not convinced that the back line is the problem. Oscar will take McCartin and J Smith will take Battle. No other talls needed. But getting the forwards in the right positions will enable us to kick to advantage instead of to packs.

  47. Lever was AFL Game Day on Sunday, very professional and oozed leadership, very impressive person & level head for his age. I reckon the stint in the coaches box will set him up for a ripper 2019. Anyone else catch it?
    2 points
  48. Good point. And in one way, it makes bugger-all difference. I think the key of this is that we are football nomads and have had to beg and scrape for a training ground somewhere, anywhere. From our days at the Junction oval, to days where we literally had nowhere to train, to now at Gosch's ... and how long before Eddie gets an idea that CFC needs office space at the square stadium and the CFC women need somewhere to train .... like Gosch's .... I'm exaggerating but not much. Eddie has pulled strings to expand CFC's land grab before. If I understand it, this new Yarra Park thing, if it gets off the ground, will be OUR office, OUR oval, no-one else's, no one will have a claim to it, it will be a HOME rather than a temporary facility where we are liable to moved on like street beggars at the drop of a hat. The players in fact might not notice any difference at all, the spectators hardly any, but the club will have a HOME. A social club? Other facilities to help raise $$$. All round it's very attractive. I can understand why people who don't barrack for the MIGHTY DEMONS might be able to find negatives ... some may even be justified! ... but for the MFC it's very attractive.

  49. hey guys, long time reader, 2nd time poster. The lever injury has come at the worst time of the season and we are scrambling to try and work out whats best for our backline. Having hibberd fall back and fill a spot is killing any run we have. I like smith in the back, give him time but i dont think he is a good second back just yet, but could be. Imagine if hunt and frost ever improve their kicking and decision making. The speed out of our backline would set us up greatly. With so many forward entries into our 50, surely we have to play a small forward, its just crazy that we dont. I like spargo. Keep him in. Jeffy? who knows what will happen. But i agree having lewis, vince and tyson in makes us so slow. Not sure what to think of tyson. Good inside but not a outside player like he is being played. We just need to work and adjust our backline. We are a strong team but lever going down has changed our setup. Anyway, hope we beat the saints and get back on track.
