  1. Absolutely he's worth it. Tough, has pace, aggressive, hurt factor by feet, backs himself. He's also got two years in the system. Those that follow junior footy closely say he was a definite top 5 pick in his draft year and likely top 3, so why wouldn't he be worth pick 2 with two years development and runs on the board in a crap team ?

  2. by 2015 he would be our #1 mid. Can't say that about anyone in the 2013 draft class so, yes, he is worth it.

  3. Funnily enough the thread is called Trade/Draft rumours, CK has heard something and passed it on as rumour, for that I thank him as it gives us all something to debate. Don't care who his sources are and don't care if none are right. When he posts it in a thread called "This is what is 100% happening and this is my source's name to back it up" then I may question whether it's from an impeccable source. As it is a rumour thread I don't demand this and would really wonder why anyone would, treat it for what it is, a rumour. To all who have posted something they have heard no matter the source, thanks from someone with no contacts within the club. '

  4. Surely if Frawley gets a big offer we match it.

  6. Went to a function last night and spoke to a bloke who knows mfc board members. We are offering pick 2 for Shiel but GWS are playing hard ball. The good news is that the file isn't closed yet.

  7. Avid reader seldom poster here... Been reading along on the trade speculation (wont buy in to much being more than that at this stage, but fingers crossed) and felt a periodically mustered urge to weigh into conversation. Just a collection of my opinions really no insider news at all and maybe not the most appropriate spot but I suppose it does somewhat concern Dylan. It seems to me that at this stage pick 2 will be remaining with us, like me I am almost certain the club wont trade it for anything short of a guaranteed 20-24 yr old midfield star in the making, and to be honest I would be amazed if any other club would let a player like that go (mine included I hope in future circumstance). It just doesn't happen. I wouldn't trade Jimmy Toump for pick 1 this year even though I'm happy to admit, if not condemn him for the fact, that he was a little underwhelming this year. This means this kind of trade despite not being limited to it, is almost certainly only going to happen with an uncontracted player, or at least a player who is grossly unhappy. To my knowledge none of our purposed targets meet this requirement. So where am I going.... Well the though obviously occurred to me that some of them will in fact be out of contract next year or indeed the year after. Perhaps this whole episode is a somewhat elaborate ruse to put the idea of the generous contract they could be earning at Melbourne in their heads early, have our interest made clear to players that fit our criteria. Like many I am sure hopeful that our performance will improve next year, and we all know the perception of an improving club with 5 or 6 wins is better than a sliding club that may even have scraped into the 8 with 11 or 12 wins (for whatever reason). Could we be getting a sneak peek at what the MFC is hoping to pull of next year? A slightly more useable draft pick around the 4, 5 ,6 mark being offered for a now out of contract young gun like Dylan Shiel? Or indeed one of the other slated targets whom's contract status I will happily admit I'm hazy on.... Or mayhaps this scenario will be put to stubborn clubs like GWS this year to urge them to action. Something along the lines of "Hey guys you know he is going to be super keen to come here for way too much money after we string together a few wins under the super coach, and next year there is no way we have pick 2 to give ya.... soooo come on, trade with us.. please..." Ahh feels so much better to get these conspiracy theories out of my head, they argue to much in there.

  8. Source told me the following: Vince for Pick 21 & 4th Rounder Melbourne officials are meeting up with Heath Shaw this week. If Shaw doesn't go to Geelong, he'll be a Dee. Apparently were keen on Blair and Eilliot. Lyons seriously thinking about coming to the Dees. Essendon want picks. We are keen for Leroy Jetta for a 5th round pick. Greenwood, Mitchie and Mellington all likely to be Demons. 3 way trade between us, Freo and North. Adelaide are heavily into Greenwood though. If we get Shaw, Vince and Jetta, Apparently Roosy thinks we can win about 8-10 games next year. Roos is aiming for 8 wins next season. In other team news: Riewoldt could walk out of St Kilda tomorrow. Has a meeting with them tomorrow, apparently not happy with the direction of the club. If he leaves. Trade is brewing. Pick 10, Q.Lynch and 3rd pick for Nick Riewoldt. Montagna done deal to Essendon.

  9. The fact that he hasn't played yet is no big deal on my eyes, frankly we have played kids for no reason these last few years and have ruined their introduction to AFL football and their confidence as a consequence. Get his body right and teach him how to play a role and we will see what 2014 holds for him. We still have a number of kids so he isn't helped in that regard.

  11. Shiel for pick 2 is an absolute no brainer. The issue is whether we can convince GWS to do the deal.

  12. Absolute rubbish. Has no interest in playing for us and will either be at GWS or Geelong. I appreciate all the rumours but, going by what you've heard, we will end up with 11 new players. We won't get half that.

  13. Couldn't give a stuff about a senior assistant. Roos is the coach and by now his competitive juices will be flowing again. If Roos implements the right culture and structures other stuff will evolve over time. The media need stories, so the fact that Melbourne is progressing slower than first thought will occupy the airwaves and papers, but in reality it means sfa. It would be more important if Roos was entering his final year, but he's not. In the overall scheme of getting better as a footy club right now it ranks low in the level of importance. If the club can't find who they want they should shortly put an end to conjecture and say they'll assess this position in an on-going fashion during the course of the next 12 months.

  14. U don't get nothing for nothing. If a club wants pick 2 they will give up someone of quality. The closer it comes to the end of the trade period the more serious the decision making will be and all the posturing will go out the window.

  15. The motto on here as been "In Roos We Trust"... until he trades for someone we know little about or we don't rate, then we crack the shits and the FD don't know what they're doing!

  16. So how will they get into the top of the draft? A hamper of spuds? Need to sacrifice someone, or miss out.

  17. Absolutely nowhere does it lead me to believe we are negotiating with Adelaide for trade involving pick 2. I don't know where you get that idea.

  18. Think you are mis-reading it - what they mean is that if we end up with Vince and Lyons it will be through two completely separate deals.

  19. Look, he might be worth Pick 2, but I'm not convinced.....I'm maligning the constant barrage of negative commentary if you dare have a debate.

  20. We are desperate for ready to go mids and don't really want to wait for Aish or Kelly to play 50 games before they can have a big impact on games, I think we should aim higher with our pick 2, which I think is what you are saying. At worst we will be getting a quality mid with our pick 2. With our results since 2006 and trade history in mind I think Shiel will be a good way to use our pick 2. But why would GWS want to give him up just to pick up another mid.... What do we have that they would want?

  23. IMO any player that illegally takes out one of my team players are scum! Over time I may forget but I will never forgive. I simple don't understand why any MFC supporter will make excuses for such behaviour against their own team. I am all for hard at the ball play etc but cowardly king hits and taking out of other players even if it done by a MFC is unforgivable.

  25. When have they ever? I'd be happy to give Adelaide our second round pick for this guy and Vince.

  26. no, but damn well knows how to find the footy. ridiculous we didn't give him more opportunities.

  27. How dare you have an opinion? Can't you see that all those in the 'know' rate Shiel? Fwiw, I watched the GWS replay last week and he hardly got a touch against us.....just sayin'

  28. Compo pick and 3rd round pick for Lyons and Vince would be fantastic. Adds immediate depth to midfield stocks, and creates competition for space. Add in another ready made with our 2nd pick, Shield and Bugg for Pick 2, and cross as a DFA, and our mids are suddenly almost strong

  29. People who think he is not worth pick #2 have absolutely no idea
    2 points
  30. The idea that we might give pick 2 for him is just ridiculous. He is a relatively unproven, young player who was taken late in the draft and has been in and out of the Adelaide side. I know trade period makes people edgy, try and put it out of your mind

  31. Without going into specifics, my info comes from within GWS. FWIW There are a few players up there who would like to come home but I don't think that is any different to any young players at other AFL clubs. I am not that confident that we will see Shiel in MFC colours.

  33. We have had separate meetings with both Shiel and Bugg and it would seem that both are interested in coming back to Vic. GWS are backing in their ability to retain both on new contracts to avoid losing them. It could be a bluff in an effort to get more in return from us.
    2 points
  34. Stupid comparison. Shiel would have easily gone top 3 in his draft year if he hadnt been pre listed by the Giants.

  35. LOL I'm not sure whether you're alluding to Trent Cotchin once being a pick 2 or that James Aish is the next Cotchin. Both arguments are so heavily flawed that I won't begin!

  36. I think we are finding out that hiring a coach for three years down the track AND get someone that stands out. Eddie wanted Bucks. GWS targeted Cameron. Sydney chose Longmire internally. And Swapfox - it wasn't the media who said we are to sign a successor now. It was Roos and Jackson in the opening press conference. So we don't have a SA for a year. Roos doesn't need one and he can have some luxury of time for the decision.

  37. The worst thing about what essendon did that was that they didnt need to. They would have won anyway - we all know that. So they didnt need to be dirty pricks. And yet...

  38. Jack Grimes will go back under Roos. Plays by far his best footy as the general off the half backline

  39. Look here is an idea. Could we just have Roosey coach for a three year contract and if he wants out we look at the next best coach available at that time? Radical idea I admit but after what we have endured can't we just do this coaching thing well and by the normal formula. Succession plans are great but do they always give the best outcome? I think the jury is still out on this one, after all you may have groomed an apprentice to take over in a year when Ross Lyon is available. Why are we in our poor position playing these games?

  40. Holger Osieck might not understand anything about the game but he is available.

  41. Again what the hell would any of us know. It is what it is and will be what it will be. It will be this year..it will be next year. I don't really care. It is an asst coach being training to be a head coach. Roos will pick who he thinks is right when the person and the time is right. I will lose no sleep over this.

  42. That hit to the throat was a very cowardly and dangerous act. It could well have ruptured Green's windpipe causing suffocation. If any player did it to another player it would be an act of outright aggression and if done in the street would lead to serious assault charges. Dean Wallis was in my opinion a coward, and remember Brad was being held during that encounter by another Essendon hero. Would I want a couple of seasoned Melbourne players to perform the same act on an 18/19 year old first year player from another club? No!!!

  43. If we are looking for the best candidate, and that person isn't available in 2013, then Roos absolutely has to stay here for at least three years. There is no point in having a succession plan if Roos and the successor only work together for one season. Because of this, I'm inclined to think that we've messed up somewhat this year. The indications from the club were that we'd sign a senior assistant coach this year. Now, the fact that we're saying we are happy to wait till 2014 to get the best available may be because we think/know Ling or someone else will be available next year. However, it may also be butt-covering, and right now I'm not sure.
