  1. So pleased to see Wallis shafted. I'll never forgive, or forget, him and Sheedy in 2000 GF. Ed: changed topic title. Added " Good riddance".

  2. Looks like it's Paul Roos for the next six to ten years then.

  4. I reckon Josh Mahoney is doing a pretty good job actually - Very proactive If you have to, judge him when the trade period finishes and we get to see the fruits of his labour

  5. I don't understand all the venom for Wallis.......He did what a player should do in a grand final.....If it was one of our players doing it to an Ess player.....You would all be cheering Lets be honest they beat us up that day and won......It's 13 years ago.... Time to get over it....

  6. I think the 9 year deal is possibly the most stupid thing I have witnessed as a footy observer. I would't want to be following Sydney off the cliff with that one.

  8. That is the third statement of 'fact' from you about a trade involving Pick 2. Stop posting for a while.

  9. True, but it's some of the alternative scenarios which have been suggested that frighten the crap out of me.

  10. No way, that is ridiculous. Toumpas very well might end up a better player than Crouch. Between Aish or Kelly, one of them will end up better than Crouch, no doubt.

  11. Our Sylvia compensation pick for Vince feels about right. Obviously more likely to happen if we get Band 3 and thus pick 20-odd, but regardless, losing Sylvia and 'replacing' him with Vince just feels about right. Unless Sloane or some other A-grader from somewhere is involved, pick 2 stays far, far away from this.

  12. Rucci seems to think it will be a direct swap for pick 2; that guy is a deadset moron. I very much doubt that any pick under 20 would be available and would hope it's our pick 36. Crows midfielder Bernie Vince acts as a free agent a year early And if Vince decides his future is better placed in becoming a Demon or at another AFL club, the 28-year-old could deliver the early draft pick Sanderson is craving to claim one of SA's under-18 national champions such as midfielder James Aish.

  13. If we don't get Michie I'll spew up, I'm sick of getting below star class players.

  14. But they're getting better. If they were getting worse I'd recommend a rest. Just imagine what we'll be getting by the end of the trade period.

  15. I will be highly disappointed if we waste another top 5 pick on an outside player. I believe you should all have a close look at the numbers captured by Champion Data over James Aish's junior career regarding his contested possession rate %, and it ain't pretty. We have him ranked 8th in the draft, with Kelly at 2. When questioned as to why they had him slipping outside the top 5 their response was damning: "Think Aish is a good player and a good user of the ball but we have looked at the correlation between low contested possession rate as a junior and eventual AFL output and if you're too 'outside' as a junior you will struggle to find the same amount of ball at AFL level. His CP rate falls in the same bracket as Cale Morton, Kane Lucas, Jimmy Toumpas and Andrew Gaff." For the record, I have wanted Kelly at the Dees since mid way through this year after covering some of his games for CD in the championships...poised and tough, can find the ball inside, as well as spread and use it outside. He's exactly what we need and don't be surprised if we go down the Kelly path on draft day.

  16. Apparently, his name has been revived in despatches and the fact that he played at the Oakleigh Chargers with Jack Viney wouldn't hurt out chances of attracting him. I just have this feeling that GWS wouldn't mind having a dominance over the top of the draft table as it has done in the past two seasons. A super trade that includes him as one of two midfielders coming to Melbourne in exchange for pick 2 and/or a player would not be beyond contemplation.

  17. Scharenberg will become a Goddard type player through the midfield. Would love him at the Demons, would take him ahead of Aish.

  19. It's not a matter of Roo's popularity - its our popularity as a club that is weighing us down.

  20. Why would he be spruiking our deals all over the place? By all reports, he plays a straight bat and never scores off his deliveries.

  21. If we need to win dirty ,win dirty i say. Troy Simmonds and Brad Green were legit targets. Would have liked to seen how long Wallis would have lasted if Grinter was still playing then. Tapscott could model himself on Grinter across HBF. Long Kick, good mark, good punch, straight lines . and take out the garbage.

  22. No ...win is what you do at a grand final.

  23. If we are looking for the best candidate, and that person isn't available in 2013, then Roos absolutely has to stay here for at least three years. There is no point in having a succession plan if Roos and the successor only work together for one season. Because of this, I'm inclined to think that we've messed up somewhat this year. The indications from the club were that we'd sign a senior assistant coach this year. Now, the fact that we're saying we are happy to wait till 2014 to get the best available may be because we think/know Ling or someone else will be available next year. However, it may also be butt-covering, and right now I'm not sure.

  24. On the other hand, it's just possible that someone from the MFC whispered in Dew's ear that he isn't the number one choice for our Senior Assistant's gig, prompting him to extend his contract with Sydney.

  26. Be Patient. AFL.com.au understands Melbourne is determined to ensure that the club gets the best candidate to fill the job rather than limiting the field to those available in 2014.

  28. Barry playing in the international rules wiill give him the best exposure to AFL footy. Nothing better to learn off blokes like Goodes and Mcload. Will give him majkr confidence boost.

  34. Stop being so pragmatic. Where's the guy who was talking premierships earlier today?

  35. As I have posted recently our midfield has no system, it doesn't work together as a team. Individually they may have a rating but as a group they rate a 3 or 4 because they are competing against well oiled clearance machines like the Hawks or The Cats. These guys hold the ball for nano seconds before it passed off by hand to another who gets it out to an outside runner, who spears a pass forward to a half forward who presents for the pass. In comparison we have MFC players battling for the ball as individuals. If they get hold of the ball and get some space don't expect anyone to lead and present. Where's Brett Ratten as mid coach when you need him?

  40. You should read the crap you're posting. You say we already have enough classy mids on our list (!), when you've just listed Morton (gone), Maric (gone), Gysberts (gone) and Cook (CHF and gone). Strauss (HBF). Blease & Grimes (both really flankers, and who would categorise them as "class"). Then writing off Trengove (played out of position, underdone, and so highly rated by Port they tried to trade picks 8&9 to get him), and Toumpas (pick 4 coming off hip surgery, played 14 games in his 1st season). Seriously man, get a clue. You're obsessed with recruiting manchildren - it's embarrassing and it's wrong. No entry level draftee should seriously be expected to contribute in his first season. Some do, that's great, but that's not why you pick them.

  41. Shuey had bad run with injuries for a while there and Fyfe was "another skinny kid" when he was drafted. I doubt they'd be the player they are today at the Dees. the Pity is not who we have picked but our 'development plan'. It seems like we planned to draft a whole heap of kids and throw them in the deep end and hope they learned how to swim butterfly. What we ended up with was a whole team of kids who can only doggy paddle.....

  44. What has killed us more was our drafting through the early 2000's - the players that should be around the 28 mark now. There are none of them, because we farrked up every pick, setting us well behind all the other clubs and it has really been telling the last 5 years or so. The lack of mature talent in that respect really shafted us.
