  1. We'd probably need to throw in pick 20 while we're at it.

  2. apparently all 17 clubs have written to the AFL commission demanding that MFC get no more than Band 5 for Col Sylvia on the grounds they already have a promising list

  3. For Buddy, Hawthorn get The Rolling Stones. For Sylvia, we get Milli Vanilli.

  4. Oh wait. There's a new contender for worst post of the year.

  5. Okay... so I was jogging along the track by Warrandyte river yesterday afternoon and this bloke needed a hand getting his kayak out of the river. Gave him a hand and we got chatting, turns out he's a relative of Tom Rockliff's manager. Not sure if I should reveal this but Rockliff is apparently 'signed, sealed and delivered' to the Dees.

  6. Spends most of his day swivelling and kicking blindly because he lacks poise. Those players are a dime a dozen. Certainly not for Pick 2, and preferably not at all.

  8. Thanks for putting the thread back on track. Let's hope you weren't sold down the river.

  9. I heard from a canoeist in Gardiner's Creek that Fremantle get pick 5 as compensation for taking Sylvia and they plan to re-draft Leigh Brown with it to solve their tall forward problems.

  11. In the nicest possible way, you're a dope if you think not drafting skinny kids will bring success earlier. For every Ollie Wines who comes on the first year with a big body there is Luke Tapscott another 'big body' who fails just like the skinny kids. Dyson Heppell, Fyfe, Whitfield, Brad Hill, Aaron Mullett, Steven Motlop, Toby Greene and my new favourite example Chad Wingard are all skinny kids. You're overlooking our bad drafting and picking players, for their body size. It's not the types of players we picked that were wrong, it were the players themselves. Therein lies the problem.

  13. I had never heard of Viv until the start of this thread but now badly want him to come to the club for mainly completely irrational reasons Sylvia has gone to Freo and i desperately want Michie to be better midfielder than him Like the romance of a kid cruelled by injury, only playing one senior game in 3 years, returning home and bursting onto the scene and ripping it up for his new club from day one Love the name. Viv Michie. Calypso Cricketer meets Pooh Bear, but most of all I want him to come because He wants to come to us. One of my favourite players already

  14. Who are our abundance of outside mids? Who says he is outside only? Not saying he is the right choice but getting sick of this "you're either inside or outside" or skinny at 18 means you'll never win a contested ball. Just pick the best rounded mid and back to develop them accordingly.

  15. Either your info is crap or Roos is a fruitcake.

  16. My source told me we are interested in the following: Kane Lucas/ Josh Bootsma/ Brad Sheppard - One of those players will be traded for a 3rd pick. Bring on Sheppard, hes a gun. Alan Didak - Has spoken to Paul Roos, if no one picks him up we'll get him. Savage - Happy to come to us if for second round pick if he doesn't go to Carlton. Mitchie - Richmond might make a run at him. Cross - Between as Blues and us. Janesch - Staying at Adelaide since Callilan most likely will go. Callilan for a 4th/5th pick. Don't be surprised if we only use 3 picks in the drat on kids. After pick 25, the draft is very very weak. Liam Patrick - Senior Rookie list Jake King - Roos keen on him. Loves his grunt and passion for the jumper. I don't want the [censored] though. Roos thinks our major problem is most of the players don't show heart, so he's trying to bring in players with mongrel and toughness: ala Cross, King etc

  17. Another element to consider is that compo picks could be removed as of next year.

  20. Ok 2 put you all out of your misery I was speaking to a Sandy Dragons official today, he said and I quote " Your Mr Roos has spoken to Nate (Freeman) and said there is no reason why we won't take him at pick 2 unless we traded it before hand!" The word (I have heard) out of the club is that unless we can get Dylan Shiels we are keeping pick 2. So from that it is Shiels or Freeman, a win situation!

  21. The club read this site, I know because after I posted the early info on Roos becoming coach I received an email saying it wasn't entirely true (even though it was) and they said they saw I had posted it on Demonland. They knew who had been told, the staff member fessed up and put 2 and 2 together and then knew who I was. I doubt there will be many other details coming out of the club.

  22. If 'lack of skinny' was your drafting criterion, Fremantle wouldn't have taken Fyfe or Hill, Essendon wouldn't have taken Heppell, Collingwood wouldn't have taken Thomas and Richmond wouldn't have taken Cotchin. I'd die for two or three of those.

  23. Have they? Or has the media portrayed it like that? And their managers are publicly claiming that, because if a trade doesn't get done and they stay, they don't want their client to become public enemy number 1 for the supporters? Alternatively, aren't we aiming for absolute gun players with pick 2? Ones that are presumably happy at their existing clubs? I mean, we're trying to pry a young kid out of a system they have now settled into. They are resilient and they are of good character, otherwise we wouldn't be targeting them. Those very traits make their first instinct not to run away when it gets hard, but to dig in. So should be surprised that its difficult to pry them away? Think about it.

  25. Utter hack is a tad harsh. I think McKenzie is a victim of injuries and utterly poor coaching. Guy can't kick, so he must be a tagger... Please... The one glaring good skill he had early on was his handball in close, people spoke about Scully and Trengove's hands in close, McKenzie was better. Very creative and accurate at both AFL and VFL level early in his career. Then got injuries and made into a pure tagger. He should've been developed as a Cross type, not a Clint Jones.

  28. We took Sylvia and McLean because they were ultra competitive contested ball monsters. How did that work out? As you said our midfield is third world inside and out. Get the best rounded player regardless of their current size. Just get it right.
    4 points
  29. Yeah but there is not necessarily a direct correlation between that and size. Look at Tom McDonald, skinny tall, but has desire for the contest and work load and has proven to play early. Same goes for Fyfe who impacted plenty of games early despite how skinny he was. No doubt more of the midfielders with bigger builds can influence early but if you can't run a 14+ or more beep test you wont get through preseason and get on the park and play early. Nathan Jones had a huge body when he was 18 and was super fit but it took him a long time to adapt to AFL. Look at last years draft. Bulldogs took Stringer who's a huge, strong inside mid in the making but doesn't have near the tank to be much more than a forward. Wines who's still a monster for 18 but not as big was able to be managed through the season to contribute early. Jack Viney who's a little shorter but solid had a few injury issues that stopped him playing a whole season influenced some games but not most really. Give me the best footballer, of which winning the ball and using the ball are probably still the most important attributes and I'll be happy. I don't care if he weighs 75kg or 85kg.

  30. If the deal is decent - and he is willing, then of course you do it. We bemoan our lack of leadership and strong bodies to guide and protect our young players and then when the off-season rolls around we suddenly forget where we are and think we have the luxury of the same decisions that a Richmond makes. Get real. We can use a Brad Sewell for a few years.

  31. I'll be buying my membership for the second year in a row as soon as I find a job. I've got $25 to my name right now. That's the price of the first payment for the armchair membership. Not going to lie, I seriously considered just buying it now. But then, I thought there might be a few things more important than getting my Dees membership early. Like food. And beer.

  32. I tend to disagree. They are short-sighted and motivated by short-term goals. They all want to play in next year's GF. They aren't thinking about the full term of their career. They aren't thinking about being the highest paid player at a weaker club vs a young fringe player at a contender. They aren't thinking about the potential rewards if they do make a move to Melbourne and are part of the resurgence of the side and possibly the first flag in 50+ years. They certainly aren't thinking about what it will bring them post-football.

  34. Hence my trade or re-sign Frawley thread. When a club puts up an unmatchable offer for Frawley next year all we get is an end of first round pick. There's an article on melbournefc quoting Frawley saying it's time the players step up. Well it's time you step up James. Offer him the big contract 5 years 3.5-4 million and tell him he either signs it or we look to trade him now.

  35. I think you do care how your opinion is rated on here as you continue to give it for our consideration. And your reaction to anyone giving a 'rating' on your opinion is not one of indifference... I think Roos will look at McKenzie and wish that the bulk of the list had the intangibles of this bloke. He will still be doing jobs for this club for a few years to come. I agree with DA that his 'job' shouldn't always be as a tagger.

  37. Spot on, BRFE. All those salivating over the likes of Freeman and Crouch, because they've seen a few pictures of them or a YouTube clip, take note. The MFC's drafting philosophies have been cyclical over the past decade or so. Prior to that '03 draft, we lacked a grunt engine room, so the decision was seemingly made to go after well built, stronger players. I'll take well rounded every day, please.

  38. If he wants to break a contract so badly GWS will tell him he can only go to the club with the best offer. Pick 2 will probably be the best offer, they can then work out how to on trade the damn thing for some mature players.

  41. It is a concern, but 4 things interest me. 1. Fremantle are keen to retain him 2. Freo supporters bar none really rate him 3. After virtually no preseason he won Peel Thunder's B&F averaging 26 disposals and regularly being tagged. 4. He's only 21.

  42. This makes no sense to me. Carlton also have a strong midfield and he won't be much better off than at Hawks, particularly as they have just picked up Daisy If Shane was a KPP then the Blues would be a good destination for him. It is also difficult to see them taking the next step to GF participation He could end up at a middle of the road club getting limited game time.

  44. Then if he is out of contract and he chooses us you leverage the PSD to get him for a late pick if any at all.

  45. I am warming to that. Aish is already playing senior footy. Jimmy second year and Viney is a player. Jones and Jones, Trengove. Maybe a Michie and Cross. Blease and a couple more pick ups and maybe a mature VFL player and our side changes. Add a good coach in Roos.
