A certain manager of a certain high profile, high draft pick who's contract is up, has told me that it has been confirmed to him by our club that Roos will be coach. This story has played true since I first discussed it on here in May. Now I am waiting to collect my winnings from the dam bookmaker who would only let me bet $20 @ odds of $8. Hope a few others here took my advice. When confirmed this is the best possible news for our Football Club.23 points

Can we have Roos fading in slowly on the Demonland banner? About 50% transparency would be right.21 points

That does seem to fit in with the confident manner of Craig. I must say I have a lot of respect for Neil and the way he has handled himself. Also if Neil gets another gig and resigns from the MFC, his contract of about $400k is saved. If he does get the Lions job I wish him well.11 points

Lets see. $1.6m in 2014 Less $400k for Craig who may get Lions job. That's $1.2m balance. Conservatively lets say an extra 6000 members x$200 =$1.2m. He is now at zero having paid for himself. Hang on I forgot, extra sponsors, more foundation members and old ones topping up, more donors, that could be considerable amounts of money coming into the club. Makes sense on a purely commercial basis anyway you look at it. Hang on I forgot that maybe the team improves under him and then all those income streams keep increasing. Seems pretty sound to me.9 points

My favourite stat: the "every game" player. Jumper numbers 2 and 45 were our only two for the year. Matt Jones proved the worth of ready made midfielders; he slotted right in and looked at home from minute one without needing the "grounding" time the young guys do. There's a lot to be said for having a body that is ready from minute one. If he can add some polish to his game he'll prove to be a real bargain. As for Nathan Jones - I wouldn't expect any less from him now. Not only is he our best midfielder, but he's also easily our most durable player. He's barely missed a game since his debut. While obviously nature plays a part, it's also a testimony to his professionalism and rigorous recovery practice. Well done lads.8 points

Best conducted club went to Essendon VFL. Obviously, they kept Hird & co away from their VFL team.8 points

If Paul Roos does in fact become the coach of the Melbourne Football Club can I suggest a temporary renaming of this board to honor the amazing work of one Peter Jackson? Anyone want to second this proposal?8 points
-
If Roos is a done deal, then I hope Craig gets the Brisbane job. I too have a soft spot for the bloke and just can't see where he would fit in our club with an experienced senior coach at the helm (just being realistic). Thanks Neil. The caretaker job of a struggling club really is the epitome of being on a hiding to nothing, and I think you did well under the circumstances.8 points

What he says OTC will be interesting, i am expecting something along the lines of, " i had a talk with my family and Melbourne is an option, i just have to work out if i really want to coach blah blah blah, it's obvious i have signed and want to give half of my salary to Demonfan26 blah blah blah8 points

I love Demonland. I know when my family is overseas without me, I hate making huge life changing decisions when the possibility exists they may get caught up in a completely unpredictable extreme weather event. This is my nomination for post of the year.7 points

If he pulls out, who's keen for a cult gathering and some poison Gatorade?7 points

We want 3? We are high. Five years is the minimum time it will take to turn this rabble around. Give him 5 years Melbourne. You can always sack him mid-contract, it's our signature move.7 points

Very disappointing to hear that from Brayshaw. When North needed assistance I gave to the cause. If that happens again he can GAGF as far as I'm concerned.7 points

I don't often get much inside info, but I did just get a phone call and the news was "contract is signed". Believe it or don't, I don't know whether I should either. It's all a bit too good to be true. Damn MFCSS, why won't you let me believe?!6 points

My excitement is more that we're getting the best coach available FINALLY. My expectations for next year are still reasonably low.6 points

I'd like to also give Mark Neeld some credit for the players that have been brought into the club under his watch. For every Tom Gillies or Cameron Pederson, there's a Mitch Clark, Chris Dawes, Matt Jones, Dean Terlich, Dean Kent or Jesse Hogan. It's always the done thing to take a dump on everything a sacked coach has done, but I think history will show that Mark Neeld actually did lay some pretty good foundations for the club's future.6 points

Thank You. All indications are that Ross will coach us. I am hearing this from player managers to board members with whom I speak. Melbourne has always been confident they would get their man Roos and this is now close to reality. However, he has not signed yet, things can still go wrong. I remember the Lyon situation last season. Or the Mich Clark situation if you were a Freo supporter. Or the Judd situation where his manager told me after the interview with Melbourne that he was coming to the Dees only for Juddy to change his mind in the following days. As such I am still cautious, a deal is not a deal until the ink has dried.6 points

I don't normally do this....and I don't have it from Paul Roos directly.....but..... I have it from a well connected source that it's done. They are also saying announcement Thursday night.6 points

Need I remind you, that only a week ago...you constantly rammed the fact that Roos had said he will not coach us down our throats and attempted to shut down people who entertained the fact.6 points

It makes me laugh how Channel 7 and others have talked about what is being proposed and how there are sources or sauces and the one thing PJ and others have brought to the club is the ability to do business negotiations in private. this is so unlike previous years. This shows a level of professionalism that gives me great hope for the club. It makes it harder for us supporter mind you but the saying is so true that lose lips sinks ships. Fremantle's poaching of Ross Lyons is a perfect example of getting the business done without having running commentary or it being played out in the media. The outrage many felt over the way it was done was from the media and i reckon the outrage was more in that Ross and Fremantle did it quietly with out any one working it out before they wanted. That's what makes it interesting that Paul Roos was the one to break the news and not MFC which to me speaks volumes about his intent. Loved the reaction of Eddie and Jason on the panel. Can't wait to hear the official news if and when it arrives.5 points

I know, I'd hate to possibly be successful for 5 whole years. 3 is enough. In fact, I'd also offer Frawley a one year contract next year. P.S.-didn't some spud of the Gillies/Pederson persuasion get 3 years? That alone should guarantee Roos a 16 year contract.5 points

I've learnt in times like this to not buy into all the "inside" info. The tips to trust are those out of the blue and unremarkable. I like to think I've got some pretty decent contacts and have been close to the mark many times. But when the bush telegraph is covered in hubris its hard to know what's legit and whats eminated from the mind of 15 year old on Facebook. Literally everything is pointing towards this being a fair accompli. But we wouldn't be Melbourne supporters if the excitement wasn't tempered with some nervous pessimism.5 points

Just like every year for the last 7 or so, all the best stuff for Melbourne supporters happens after round 22* and before round 1 the following year. This year is exceeding every other one so far. *Just for the pedants, Round 23.5 points

Nathan Jones is a little champion. Seriously, I watch him get dragged, scragged and smashed behind play and under packs each and every week. He gets no protection from his teammates or the bias umpires, he didn't even have Jamar in the centre square this year to protect him or tap to his advantage once in a blue moon. That he keeps on getting up and willing himself to go at 100% when most of his teammates barely get out of 2nd gear each week, is amazing. I am sure he carries niggles and injuries, but you just wouldn't know it. He is one of the most professional players I've ever seen at our club. He is one player you can truly be proud of every week. He deserves the captaincy next year (from an outsiders' perspective anyway), and another Bluey.5 points

Yes. i thought it was one of his softer games. He didn't hit bodies when he should have, he didn't chase as hard as he should have and in general he tiptoed around the edges. There are times when you have to hit your opponents body first with your torso when flying for a mark. You do this to better position yourself and have them off balance. Watts avoids this and missed marks he should have taken accordingly. He's a terribly soft footballer. But yes, he's a great set shot for goal.5 points

Trengove - slowly improving Grimes - back is best N.Jones - needs help Watts - soft as butter Toumpas - long way off Viney - tired Frawley - back to best Sylvia - not a midfielder McKenzie - just a battler Dunn- scared of his shadow Garland - dependable these days McDonald - has a crack Sellar - bye Kent - really showing signs Davey - brilliant farewell - brought back memories Gawn - big preseason ahead Howe - needs a position Jetta - preseason form Spencer - backup ruckman M.Jones - quiet Terlich - good first year4 points

Roos rates him, thats enough for me, and im sure that irks some on here. If anyone else kick 4 goals you would all be saying what a great game he had , instead of searching for faults as you do with Watts.4 points

I honestly just want to punch the face of any moron who spouts this rubbish. I have been clenching my teeth at it for 5 years since we drafted Watts. Stop for one second PLEASE and use your god-given brain: 1. Toumpas was rated higher universally and every club would have taken him at pick 3! (just like Morton, Watts etc) 2. We are not in the business of recruiting blokes based on who they are mates with 3. They are 1 year in to 10-12 year careers how stupid are you to pass judgement already 4. Every draft there are players taken at lower picks than others that end up better, it doesn't just go in perfect order you morons 5. How can you determine the impact of the development program/coaching at one club vs another 6. How can you determine the impact of being in a top8 side vs a bottom 2 side? 7. Toomp has actually been OK anyway! He has gotten better as its gone on 8. MOST IMPORTANTLY - WHO CARES? It has happened already and it cannot be changed FFS! What is to be gained by whinging about it constantly, just support your players FCS smarten up, you embarrass all of us4 points
