  1. Absolutely love this all we need to do now is draft Wines with pick 4 and I can spend the rest of the year in peace. I've had an absolutely [censored] year and this is the first bit of good news in it.

  2. UPDATE: Dawes Deal finally completed this afternoon, expect many chips to now fall including Pederson & potential other club deals will flow freely tomorrow Dawes & Lick 58 to Demons Pick 20 & 45 to Pies Other updates (coded - Hot, Luke warm, scuttlebutt) -------------------------------------------------------------------- - Pick 58 may be sent to Roos for Cam Pederson (Rivers compo pick may be offered however Roos may not want to wait for announcement its holding up Macintosh Deal (H) - Jared Rivers has told the club he will join Cats once offer sheet comes through (H) - Demons inquire what Dockers are seeking for Broughton (H) - Farren Ray still in picture after Saints can secure M.Brown from Eagles, may look to Stef Martin for swap with Farren unless other cards fall. Expect update once Cripps deal done (H) - Neeld may get his dream Fwd lineup as Gumbleton to either Dockers, Dogs or Demons (H) - Martin & Gysberts both linked to a complex deal involving 4 teams, more to come on this one as details are sketchy at this stage however it's believed to involve Bombers, Demons, GWS & 1-2 other clubs - 4/5 Clubs have met with Demons to feel out offers for Stef Martin, Demons holding out for word on Ray and above deal to become clearer (H) - Melbourne putting in yards to convince Geelong to part with George Burbury or Jonathan Simpkin Both are Rookie listed & Demons rate them VERY highly (H) - James Strauss has been put on table as potential lure for players with outside speed, after some inquiries early on from Hawks & Pies were initially rejected (SB) - Dylan Roberton's management has mentioned Demons have been in contact (LW) - WCE have met with Cale Morton's Management, Bombers & Swans also showing mild interest (LW) - Jordan Russell has met with 3 VIC clubs & it's clear he will receive an opportunity, Dees seen to hold him as a reserve option if unable to secure another experienced utility type - Matthew Bate back on Bulldogs menu, Lions & GC also keen & potential packaged deal for Ben Jacobs with PA also gaining momentum late today (LW) - Jesse White an interesting topic as it seems Dogs may prefer him to Gumbleton opening door for Demons & Dockers to battle it out should he decide to leave. Neeld not keen on White due to perceived "Lazy" training & prep habits (LW) - Demons have no interest in M.Campbell after seeking word on C.Garlett earlier in Trade Period (LW) - Melbourne have been ruled out of any deal involving Andy Otten (H) - Dees, Swans & Hawks have reportedly entertained the idea of speaking with Dan Connors about a rookie list opportunity, although reports are its long odds at this stage (SB) - Proposed Lucas Cook straight swap with Roos for Garlett and/or Part of Pederson deal now seems unlikely as Lachie Hansen agrees to stay at NM (LW) - Lions & Dockers have reportedly minor interest only as it looks Lucas may be delisted & have to settle for a rookie spot at best (LW) - Ricky Petterd may be traded for a pick in range of 35-45 with up to 6 teams declaring some level of interest, may come done to fitness tests (LW) Believe it or not, barely half the info floating around atm, by far most hectic & openly negotiated trade period in AFL history - Well done AFL for insult getting time frame & addition of FA right to ensure players & teams can finally look to improve their list & find new opportunities! Much more to come when I get some time to digest all the numerous reports, since Dawes deal & Mcintosh deal have been agreed upon, the flood gates are well & truly alive! PS - Mark Neeld, the man walks what he talks - Well done Dees! HOT (more likely) Picks 3 & 13 to GWS for Jesse Hogan & Pick 20 Stefan Martin to Saints (Dogs, Pies, GC also keen in which any pick they send would likely be on traded to saints) for Farren Ray 4th round pick to North Melbourne for Cam Pederson (may be part of bigger deal) Pick 20 to Collingwood for Chris Dawes (likely to include swaps of later picks also) Brent Moloney to Lions as FA Luke Warm: Ben Warren to demons via trade or PSD Cale Morton to WCE for Koby Stevens or to Bombers for David Myers Stefan Martin to pies for Sharrod Wellingham (unlikely due to SW reluctance to stay in VIc) Jared Rivers to Geelong (luke warm now as Cats eyeing Delaney & Jacobs thus have no solid offer to Riv as yet) Ricky Petterd to Collingwood/GC for mid range pick Adelaide making a play to demons for Jordie Mckenzie which will most likely go nowhere Lucas Cook to Bulldogs for Christian Howard (mooted about late today) Neeld has rumoured to have met with the agent of blues Rookie Bell Pick 4 to GC for Josh Caddy (very unlikely as Caddy hasnt met with Dees to date, Dees want live pick with 3 now gone to GWS) Clinton Young to Demons via free agency (will depend on how hard Dees go once observing what other pins drop) Docker Dylan Roberton has met with Demons as has teammate Jay Van Berlo Jesse White's management have sought out demons for a chat, seen as potential Dawes contingency plan Melbourne expected to meet with cut Swan Jared Moore & PA's David Rodan in coming days Scuttlebutt: - Semi-serious talk rumored to have taken place today from 3-4 different stories between dees/blues re: Kane Lucas & Jack Watts Word has it Demons played hands off approach with Watts, to which Blues responded with "fair enough". Tom Bell also discussed with blues still confident of retaining as a rookie - WCE mildly keen on Cale Morton, with bombers & Blues also mentioned - 2 Clubs still making inquiries for Garland, may be entertained if Rivers remains - Lucas Cook has garnered only very light interest, with Saints & Dogs amusing offers - Jamie Bennell has been discussed as potential swap to both WA clubs for a late round pick - Demons to delist up to 11 players depending on trade period success: Macdonald, Bate, Bennell, Cook, Evans, Jetta, Batram, Petterd, Davis & more may go if trades cannot be facilitated with Jetta/Bartram considered to be 50-50 calls. - Despite reports, Demons have no interest in Lachie Hansen or J Giles - Melbourne looking to discuss potential of GC being open to trading Hall, also sussing out GWS' Rhys Cooyou - David Armitage keeps popping up as yet another Demon target WATCH THIS SPACE.. 2012 has begun at breakneck speed & a record amount of trades will be completed! **Disclaimer - All data above is a collated mix from information I come across via many mediums in my corriders at my workspace, I only post things I hear from 2-4 different whispers & for those who dont yet, im sure most understand the AFL trade period is a crazxy time & with the window small only very few mentioned deals get completed.. even deals clubs agree on after days of intense talks can go un-done**

  4. LOL! Over at the GWS shop the "father/son special" gets you a lifetime complimentary pass to Smorgies, and a degenerative knee. And that [censored] costs 6 million dollars.

  5. From the same article: "We're getting good cooperation with Greater Western Sydney so we are very positive we can do something in the near future," Harrington said. The Demons also feel Dawes is up for grabs, although appear unlikely to offer one of their early picks to make the trade happen. "We think we're a good show and we've put a good case forward so far. The player has to buy in as well," Harrington said. "We think we're a good proposition for him. He's indicated positiveness to us." Raises two interesting points: If we get Dawes won't be giving up pick 13. Second point is that the relationship with GWS sounds very professional and productive. Which makes a mockery of the silly predictions that GWS (or for that matter GC) would look to stymie the dees with Viney just out of spite or because Sheedy wants to be mischievous. As i've noted before this is big, big business - too much at stake for games to be played.

  6. I thought the club handled this impeccably from start to finish. Plenty of posters around here should apologise for the nonsense they've flung at the club during this entire saga. Claims that the club have been incompetent have been rife in this thread and only served to prove the ignorance of the fools that posted them.

  7. Excellent. If Morton did go to WCE, watch him end up looking like Q Lynch after 1 pre-season.

  8. Meanwhile, GWS can't find the cash to keep Jonaton Giles, seriously? Tom Scully is the best double agent football has ever seen.

  9. GWS will pretty much just own this draft. Which is fine. I am happy to wait a year for a gun KPP than waste an early pick on Dawes. Long term thinking will make us really successful, rather than just mediocre. I've waited a lifetime for us to not suck, what's another year?

  10. Loved Mitch Clark's tweet to JV "Get the left foot ready bud haha want it hitting me on the [censored] next yr" and Frawley's tweet "JV "at pick 26. What a steal. Welcome to the Club big man" James is not going anywhere. Suddenly cant wait for 2013.

  11. Viney is a competitive beast in the Selwood, J.Lewis, Hodge mode. In fact I've heard some describe him as the most ferocious young player to ever come through the system. The kind of player that is first picked in September, a "culture changer", and decent skills to boot. I don't give a rats' tossbag if we have to take him at 3, he's exactly the kind of young player we need to bring into the club. No brainer IMO. Who cares if O'Rourke runs a better beep test or Grundy tested better in the clean hands test, the guy is clearly worth an early pick and not to mention the lack of integrity of overlooking him after putting 2 years of work in.. If you want any more convincing, we took a guy at pick 1 four years ago who blitzed the Championships, broke records at draft camp and had all the potential in the world. Jack Watts of course. Fast forward and the one thing stopping him from becoming the player he should be is a lack of intensity and competitive instinct. He will never get it (IMO). You can't teach what Viney has. We're lucky. Obviously it's better if we get him at 26, because we'd be making out like bandits. But that's out of our control. The only reason you'd see me in meltdown tomorrow would be if we overlooked him altogether. Luckily that won't happen.

  13. If the gist of your OP that players are unwilling to come to the club because of Neeld's attempt to change the club culture and make the playing group fitter and or defensively accountable then I disagree. And if we are losing players that aren't buying in or not attracting those who will buy in then it is step one in cleansing the list. As Rhino and others allude to, I don't deny that we are not a particularly attractive destination, but it is because our image has taken such a beating through many years of mediocrity and being poorly managed and coached. It will take Craig, Neeld and others soe tie to begin to undo the damage.

  20. The deal with GWS for Hogan needs to appear to be a long protracted tough negotiation.

  21. This time last year we could have throttled them for stealing Tom Whatsisname but look at this! Melbourne and GWS cosying up together to do a deal for pick 3/Jesse Hogan:- Dees circle Hogan I think it's called love.

  23. How many players are attracted to the other clubs? We were interested in a bloke who wants to go to W.A (Wellingham) and were interested in a unproven kid (caddy) who thinks he is gary ablett. Knobs like Denham take it and times it by a million. Don't get sucked in by morons who have an axe to grind.

  24. I must say that this is a very happy day for this little Black Duck. Hogan joining the club over the next day or two will make it a stupendous draft with more to follow. Imo Jack Viney will be a better player than Todd, who made the TOC. It's no exaggeration to say that he's harder, quicker, has a better sidestep and evasive abilities - as mentioned by Micky O - and he's a far better kick. I haven't seen a truly gun left foot mid at Melbourne, which dates back to the 70's, but I expect that that's finally going to change. Yze was a good player and Woewodin had a few decent years, but they were a few rungs below genuine star status and neither impacted games like this inside mid will. And it's selling Viney short to say he's just an extractor, or 'first dibs' footballer, as he's also very proficient on the outside. I've thought about the most likely left footed comparison and the best I can do is Scotty West, who was a terrific player that won 7 B&F's. But even then Viney has some skill sets that should hold him in good stead in that comparison. Btw, I'm not saying he's the messiah, as some will no doubt spout, nor am I putting any pressure on him, as he'll put far more pressure on himself than I ever could, but I reckon he'll become a star midfielder in due course. Best left foot mids I've seen: Black Pendlebury Cable West (178cm) There's also Wayne Johnston and Hodge, but they played more as flankers. I can't really think of any other absolute gun left foot mids, but I'm sure I've missed the odd one. Goodwin comes very close. We've now got our own Joel Selwood.

  25. You probably picked the wrong day to start a naysayer thread. I don't think we will know the sum total of recruiting until the end of the draft/trade period but so far (and it is very early days), this is an area in which Neeld's team has excelled, both last year and this year.

  27. Hello fellow MFC tragics - long time reader of Demonland over the years - however as you can see my contributions have been sparse. Thought I might add my two bobs worth to the JV discussion - thought I might as well. This thread appears to be petering out somewhat don't you think?? If you can all indulge me for just one minute and please excuse what some might call the hyperbole that is going to follow here - make no mistake, today is a truly magnificent day in the life of our much beloved MFC. MFC supporters one and all should rejoice at how events transpired today. In my humble and certainly uneducated view, JV was worth every bit of Pick 3 - to grab him for Pick 26 is a steal. Will be viewed down the track as crime of the century I reckon - particularly if we use our 3 first rounders wisely and strike some gold there too. All in all a great outcome for all of us (poor, long suffering, desperate for even a flicker of hope, light at the end of the tunnel, etc) who have been agonising over the JV matter (for years I suspect for some!!) and now we can all sit back, relax in the knowledge that we have JV in the bag - and 3 first round picks to play with in the upcoming trade/draft. Yep - life is good today. Not that often we can feel this way as MFC supporters so we should all kick back and dream about what might be for next year and beyond - and perhaps some of us might even be tempted by a one or two of the activities mentioned in the attached link - hope it works ok, first attempt at linking! The lyrics pretty much sum up how I've been feeling after hearing the glorious news as I was driving out to Cranbourne this morning to watch a horse I have a small interest in have his first official trial. Horse ran well and we snagged Jack for a second round pick - doesn't get much better than that!! Enjoy!! PS. How remiss of me - welcome to the MFC Jack Viney!! Life Is Good Today.html

  28. I don't really see how it's up for a choice between the two? We're not thinking of trading pick 3 for Chris Dawes so we could, potentially, have both.

  32. I don't know, I'm warming to Dawes, especially for a pick 20 or beyond. We still need someone to split the heat with our lord and saviour Mitch Clark next season. We need to start getting results. Hogan will still take time even in his debut year and more. If Dawes finds some form, we win. If he is a wasted pick 20ish and Hogan over takes him, we still win. If we end up with too many big men in good form, well then there's some trade value in the bank.

  34. If GWS end up with picks 1,2,3 they will most likely select Whitfield, Grundy, and Toumpas. We will then select Wines with 4.

  39. WHy would we give up pick 3 when we could give pick 4, which nobody could outbid us on anyway? Baffling if true. But really hope we get Hogan, he will be to impact games from round 1, 2014. Talk about a ready made AFL body and talent. If its true he grew up a Demon supporter, that just seals the deal.

  40. Day after day that fool Denham of the Australian gets it wrong when it comes to Melbourne - Giants hang on to young ruckman Mark Seaby, Jesse White likely to be shown the door as Swans pursue Kurt Tippett Another epic fail.

  42. I would put my money on Dave Misson being a big advocate for Farren, would have first hand experience of how fit he is.
    3 points
  43. When and where did he confirm that? I still don't get why we would force Wellingham to come to Melbourne when he doesn't want to? What's the point? We are a joke if we trade pick 4 for these two. It reeks of short term gain to bolster Neeld's win-loss ratio. What a disgrace.

  44. Lol I always picture Viney running out for his debut- fit and raring to go- looking good, confident- hitting the bags HARD, and then boom- the ground opens up and swallows him whole. I take a sip of my beer, say "cheers god mate" and normality ensues as I return to my normal state of being a depressed, hopeless dees supporter.

  45. I disagree. While he was one of the best small forward running around early on, i think he has slowed up too much now. Personally i think we put him back behind the ball. And to all the complainers on here, YES it does mean he is going to get a lot of cheap ones out the back from handballs. But all i can say is if i was Mitch Clarke and co leading out from FF, i know whose hands i would want the Sherrin in. They are cheap possession, but it was only 2-3 years ago that he was so damaging he was getting the number one tag each week. Apply that to 2013, will mean Jones, Trengove, Sylvia get more freedom
