  1. I'm sure he's shaking in his boots

  2. I don't get it. We have a young player who clearly has some talent but who also has had a pretty poot run win injuries, now when he's finally starting to show something Melbourne fans are sticking the boot into him? Jesus, we should be celebrating the fact that he's finally putting some games together and understand that he'll be much better for the run and a proper pre-season.

  3. The Casey Scorpions' stats from today's game against Possessions Dave Collins 28, Jack Viney 24, Matthew Bate, Brent Moloney and Mitch Gent 23. Hardball gets Jack Viney 11, Dave Collins 8 and Matthew Bate 6. Tackles Chris Clay 6, Jordan Gysberts and Matthew Bate 5. Inside 50's Tom Corry 7 (on debut) and Dannyw Nicholls 6. Hitouts Luke Hill 32. Co-captain Kyle Matthews in his comeback game had 18 touches, 5 hardball gets & applied plenty of forward pressure!

  4. Pull your head in mate. My question is as valid as any other, not sure why you singled out my post and not the numerous ones requesting the names of goal kickers, the names of who are guarenteed to be posted on a multitude of websites where lesser named players specific starting positions/roles may not. I thank kc for his updates and he is free to answer or not at HIS leisure

  5. I can't fathom why so many posters complain about our inability to develop players After all didn't we take an undersized schoolboy from a melbourne fringe suburb and turn him into a multi-millionaire in only 2 years? I'd say we've had a pretty good development record

  6. The question is how shyzen are we if we can only beat the Giants by 25 points with that spud in the side?

  9. Your postman must be Helen Keller. Seriously, do people read papers these days?! Beams is re-signed and Moloney is a free-agent. So frustrating reading this forum sometimes.

  10. Absolutely. Strauss = 16 games. Cook = 0 games. Next we'll be saying that Rory Taggert is rubbish. These players need support at the games, not people bagging them online.

  11. Not sure what the point is here but on the injury list we haven't had the soft tissue injuries that a club like Essendon is having, mostly structural which you can't blame the him for. Think we will see the benefits of Misson in the next couple of seasons, as for Casey well I guess with the Dees struggling we put more focus on Casey, at least one of our sides has been winning. In the end game it's really not that important.

  12. Supporters may expect success and believe that their club's culture is one of success, but any club's present day culture is determined by their current leadership group, not what happened 30 years before. Supporters expecting, wanting, hoping, demanding is all great, but they're hollow words if the present day leaders of the club can't provide sustained success. I'm too far away to know how strong their leadership group is, but I do know that great leadership and great talent will deliver success. Perhaps they don't have enough of both. No club has had a better era than Melbourne's. Eleven years in a row our club made top 4 with a 75% winning rate; and they won 6 flags from 8 grand finals. How do you think our culture was at that time ? Ultimately a lack of talent and strong leaders post that period ensured a decline. No club is immune from mediocrity if it doesn't have a strong leadership group, or have enough talent. But equally no club is consigned to mediocrity if they recruit/develop enough of the right individuals. In an 18 team competition that's the hard part.

  13. The next best thing after a Demons win is an Essendon loss and this mob have capitulated in fine style after being touted as a flag fancy earlier in the season. Anyone who has mates who bang on and on about Hiiiiiiiirdy and Bombaaaaa will know what I'm talking about. Go to Bomberblitz and follow the meltdown live. It's a guilty pleasure.

  14. Jason Dunstall mentioned today when talking about Howe that he is one of only a few Melbourne players who attacks the ball at speed and without hesitation. When watching a Melbourne game recently with a casual football observer, they made the comment that Melbourne players just stand back and watch. It's embarrassing when young Greene in his first season can continually rack up possessions, at speed and with intent while seasoned Melbourne players choose to just watch. Watts was racking up the ball in the third quarter but he would often stand flat footed after taking a kick. On top of that, after taking a mark he got caught out because his initial reaction was to kick off a standing start near his opponent when he should have quickly ran backwards to give himself time and space to make the best decision. He is not on his own when it comes to this and Neeld mentioned it recently. It's the little things, often only a split second but they are so frustrating because to attack the ball and do the little things (such as running back from the mark) require little skill and no experience.

  16. Can you please explain how the CEO has such an effect on team performance? I mean, should we stick Schwab in the guts next round considering our midfield is so poor?

  17. A lot of strong bodies who run hard both into space and straight at the footy. They understand that footy is a contact sport played by blokes who are supposed to knock over other blokes.

  20. If I must explain (this is Melbourne forum right?) Neitz was a 300 game player and the longest leader at the MFC. He could win a game of his own boot (unlike Maxwell), and he was aggressive while maintaining discipline (unlike Hall). He lead from the front which is exactly what our club has always and continues to need. Wonder what big Jolly things right now with the Pies being sticked in the middle against North? Pity about Swanny isn't it?

  21. why feel sorry for him? he has chased money his whole professional career, all in the name of funding the Mormon church. he is the one who decided to leave the storm for bigger money at the broncos and despite being the second highest paid player there decided to ditch the game he grew up loving and playing to chase even more money, this time in a code that was completely foreign to him. mercenaries such as folau deserve every inch of scrutiny they bring onto themselves

  22. In case it slipped your notice this is how we got in to this mess in the first place; Daniher hung on to players for too long, didn't get rid of players when they were clearly not up to it, and only played a small core of his preferred players. We allowed players with dubious ability to stay on the list for years and we still do, you know who they are and if we had delisted just a couple more each year and turned over the list a bit more we wouldn't be in the situation we now are. How in God's name did we allow Godfrey to get to 100 games; I liked Ward but the same with him. There are some players on the list that have been there for 5 to 6 years and we're still not sure if they can play or not. Some times you have to take drastic action or you just wallow in the bottom of the barrel forever. There is a hard core of players at the club who are getting more experience and these players will be able to take the younger players with them and if we can get a few senior recruits it will round off the list a bit more.

  24. To think the Melbourne loss has cost them the spot in the finals makes me smile! Our only "real" win for the year! No other non expansion club lost to us. Says were shocking, but they will rue that one for a long time.

  27. No, you just have no class. If you started a thread discussing the merits of him as a footballer I'd give you a straight forward assessment. But you don't understand that there's a time and a place. As I said, no class.

  29. To answer the main question which seems to be about Jack Viney, he is going to be a quality AFL footballer. He got plenty of the football in a winning midfield dominated by Beamer, Dave Collins, Gysberts and Bate when he went in there. And young Jack was not overshadowed at the coal face by any of these players including some of the seasoned Collingwood midfielders.

  30. It's actually YDKSFA which is You don't know sweet f all. But Dingaling has made his own acronym up. That seems to be a trend with this particular poster who's found an incredible way to post ridiculous comments with no credibility at all. Never fear fail troll is fail.

  31. Three QuarterTime Casey Scorpions 3.5.23 4.6.30 7.12.54 Collingwood 0.2.2 3.8.26 4.9.33 The Scorps peppered the goals in the final few minutes but could only score points. Tim Smith had a great quarter kicking the first and last goal of the term and another attempt would have been a sensational goal but it hit the base of the goal post. Casey have found some good young prospects in ruckman Luke Hill and young Mitch Gent. Kyle Matthews is going well in his first game and another experienced Scorpion Danny Nicholls has also added to the mix. Pies coming home with the breeze and it will be touch and go but Casey's defence has held firm apart from that brief period before half time.

  32. Great to see him back after that terrible injury last year. I thought he showed a bit before that and I'm looking forward to what he can produce next year after a proper pre season! Loved the other players contacting him for support! One of the best parts of our game!

  34. I don't think we'd be happy with anyone doing that. Highly-rated-by-consensus juniors sometimes just don't live up to expectations. Richard Tambling and Cale Morton case in point. There are countless others.

  35. Needs to improve A LOT.. Strauss and Morton are well and truly in my firing line. ill be zeroing in on Strauss more next year when Morton plays over in the Wafl.

  37. I wasn't too keen on Strauss early on but he seems to have developed a bit and was getting much more aggressive in his play before he broke his leg. I reckon he can play and could turn out to be a pretty good player.

  38. I doubt you'd find two less likely blokes to hold a grudge over friendly fire in a game of footy.

  39. All I can say: the thought of Travis Cloke on a hard lead outside 50. Mark. Swing around on his left foot with a quick, long, penetrating kick into a one on one contest to Mitch Clark makes me salivate. Get all his good attributes and don't need him shooting for goal. Hope it happens....

  40. Have you ever been really tired and twisted an ankle walking up a step or something? Getting fitter will reduce our incidence of injuries of every kind. Even impact injuries. Look at Nathan Jones; excepting the fortuitously-placed broken back at the end of one season, he's had narry a scratch, twinge or snap since his debut. It's no coincidence that he's our fittest player.

  42. The "Shinboner Spirit" is a croc of you know what. It's just a nice tag line. And whether a leadership group enforces a perceived past culture, or is setting new parameters doesn't really matter. Although I'd argue that a club's culture will be determined by the values of its present day leadership group, not the Chinese whispers of yesteryear. The day to day behaviours and decisions driven by present day players will be different from the past. Society is different from the past. Culture isn't static, it evolves as behavioural expectations change. Any culture needs a strong buy in from the playing group and even stronger implementation. Strong leadership with great talent gives the best chance of success.

  43. I would go with Carlton too. We can at least claim the satisfaction that we shattered the bombers arrogant overconfidence and started them down their slippery slide if they miss the finals. The shocked look on their supporters was priceless.

  47. You'd imagine if he did want to coach Melbourne may suit him as we are starting from scratch and whoever does turn this midfield around will look like a dead set legend in the coaching fraternity.

  48. We couldn't had drafted worse if we'd tried. Jetta, Smith, Talia, Martin, Fyfe, Shuey, Darling are just a small list of players somehow passed over by us - for reasons I'm yet to see.. Unlike the OP, I was following TAC and other leagues alike leading up to all drafts and I was absolutely shocked on draft day at our incompetency. 3 players I was over the moon to get where they were picked - Sam Blease, I had him potentially in the top ten that year. Luke Tapscott - I didn't think there was much between him and Trengove, I had Tapscott comfortably rated in the top 10. Jeremy Howe - I liked little of what I seen, he had great skills a great leap and looked to have a touch of spark, I thought it was a good speculative pick. Picks that left me scratching my head - James Strauss, we picked him before Blease which left me scratching my head. At the time, Blease and Shuey had no right to be still on the board, yet we choose James Strauss, I never understood that then - and dont now. Gysberts - I had him after the first round, probably going around 22-23, we stuffed up taking him at 11, there was still A LOT of talent on the board. You look at the talent after Gysberts and just think of not what could've been - but what should've been. Cook - I dont mind Lucas Cook, didn't mind him as a player - but not a first rounder, I thought second round was around the mark and I thought he would've slipped. One thing I never pay much attention to is " we had to choose Gysberts, Cook where we did, or other sides were taking them" The common line that clubs roll out to keep supporters happy. I will add that I would've taken Jack Watts at number 1. Maybe I am bias because he is a Victorian - and I'm probably bias on most Vics, hence why Im really dirty that Shuey - a leader of men and a former Metro captain - is wearing Blue and Gold and we chose James Strauss over him, that is the blunder of all blunders, was then and is now.
