  1. A couple of observations on today: - We're carrying far too many players that give us nothing, and in some cases are consistently giving us nothing. I'm thinking Bate, Dunn, Bail and Moloney in particular. Too much work is being left to too few; at the moment guys like McKenzie and Howe are carrying more than their fair share of load. - Whatever it is that Neeld is looking for from Blease, I hope he saw it today. I'm fully supportive of him being dropped if he's breaking team rules and not doing as he's told, but gee whiz I'll be bitterly disappointed if he plays at Casey next week while Bate and Dunn close in on being in the top few worst 100 game players for the club of all time. I'm conflicted on this. - I'm a huge fan of the Jared Rivers Forward movement, but Mitch Clark he ain't. He can't mark the ball when he's swamped with three defenders (unlike Clark!) and shouldn't be expected to. It looked to me like we need to set up much more smartly around him; you'd back him to win most one-on-one contests. And make sure the others don't drag their bloke in to the contest! - Joel Macdonald has been a positive since Rivers and Garland exited the back line. He's not the most polished guy in the world and I think he'll always be a peripheral player at best, but he gives a contest. At the moment he's easily best 22.

  2. Anyone else happy with Blease today? I really am, he is not polished but his speed and endeavor is something really valuable. I can see him being a good player for us going forward. Sign him up!

  3. Dumping our captains after one season sends a great message to the playing group... not!! Particularly so close on the heels of the dumping of J McD and Brad Green. In my opinion, and speaking as a Nathan Jones fan, I think that regardless of his qualifications, replacing the current captains would be entirely counter productive and what little morale there is in the playing group would be lost.

  5. The constant slow bombing to the wings did my head in today. Not just because it is boring but it doesn't work with this list. Why is it any time we go through the middle we look good? I'd say because of players like Nicho and blease who can run and spread for us. After the first quarter I would have liked to see Nicho moved up the ground further with Blease on the ball to give us some run. I hate seeing a centre bounce when we have Bate,Mcenzie,Trengove and Beamer/Magner in the midfield. That is way too slow. Watts should have been given some time up forward. After T.Mac went down one of Rivers/Garland should have gone back. Watts on Brown. Pffft. Dunn as a hack backmen suits him but that doesn't mean it is good for us. If Dunn isn't a forward he shouldn't be in the team. Also am sick of seeing 3 of our guys go for a gang tackle or chase the pill and one opposition player stays out and gets a easy handball and has a paddock in front of him. Today just blowed goats.

  6. 61 pt loss with a thrown together second string rabble come regulars. In reality it really isnt that bad. Im wondering why the Lions didnt smash us by more than a 100... But they didnt. Everyone is so quick to get the knives out for Neeld but I think he was quite smart today in a fashion. I know not everyone will see it that way. Im not about to slash a wrist . Yes some players' shortcomings were shown...and good. A few did have a crack, a couple of others went and earnt their possessions. Some stood flat footed. This is all the stuff Neeld wants to see.. Who does what , where and when. Games like this is nothing about this season its all just prep and homework for the next.. Look beyond the fence people.

  7. I think Cook must be blooded next week. Is the only REAL forward left on the list that is fit and plays KPF so bring him in I say!

  8. I am absolutely dumbfounded as to how Moloney is still in this team.

  9. Lazy, pathetic garbage from Moloney. Stop pointing and get on a man. FFS!!!

  11. It really really upsets me that of all the experienced, highly paid players at our club, who have all had absolutely woeful games/seasons/careers, supporters choose to single out and humiliate Spencer. He is a child, he hasn't play in 2 years, and he is coming back from a knee reconstruction. Newsflash: he isn't our problem.

  12. I thought Martin was good. Decent disposal, and very good ruck work.

  13. Martin had 20+ possessions. When was the last time Jamar did that?

  15. Blease is a non Neg! The kid takes the game on, he represents everything we arent - so I see why he clashes with Neeld! Keep Blease at all costs!

  16. Spencer - as soon as I saw him on the ground I knew we were in trouble. Sorry but why???

  19. Get straight up Watts, when you lay a tackle, dont be content, get up, chase the ball - lay another tackle. Its what annoys me about Watts, show some desperation!!

  20. Wow, I didn't expect to win today, but wow, just wow.... Really average effort, and even with my low expectations I'm starting to get angry

  22. the awful truth is that this group of players has zero class/polish between them: Bate Spencer Sellar Bail MacDonald Magner Nicholson Martin bunch of complete hacks really, most sides have 1 or 2 of these in their 22, we have 7 today and thats why we're getting thumped
    3 points
  23. So in the second half, hows about Dunn and Bate go to their proper positions and Rivers and Garland do the same.... I know you're all about experimenting coach, but FFS, how about not being so stubborn with the ones that aren't working?!

  24. How did Nicholson not get paid a free kick?

  25. so we really have to suffer the indignity of having Leigh Matthews constantly fellating Brisbane and showing his clear hatred of us? It is simply unprofessional. I can't believe how they were bagging Watts just then, gee he lost a marking contest to a 200-game/500-goal all australian player because of a miskick that dropped short big friggin whoop. God it makes me sick

  26. Oh no! Blease kicked a goal instead of doing the team thing. Clearly he'll be dropped again this week.

  27. I love the Dees and will till the day I die. Whilst I live in WA I never get to see VFL except for replays but must say things in grassroots footy in WA are on the up. Things are different here as we only have two AFL teams and getting to Subiaco Oval is almost impossible and costs a lot more than going to the "G". For this reason people are flocking back to the WAFL attendances are up this year and the league is a good standard and on their day anyone can beat anyone. I attend a game every week and my kids love it, I speak with others at the footy who also say the same, the kids love being able to run around on the grass banks chase the balls behind the goals and have a kick on the ground at quarter, half and three quarter time. Not to mention for as long as they like after the game while dad has a beer and a chat. Families are realising kids hate having to sit in a seat at Subi for 2 and a half hours without being able to move, Meth Coast supporters are the most uneducated and one eyed front running supporters going around and it's hard work taking your kids to watch them, especially when they are wearing opposition colours. Dockers supporters are a bit better they were brought up on the East v South Freo derbies and have some football smarts. Both WA based AFL clubs have tried to flex their muscles this year demanding to put their own stand alone reserves into the WAFL, it would be the death nell for WAFL. The WAFL in the last 3 to 4 years has got itself back on it's feet but the AFL clubs have tried to bully and create wedges between them. All 9 WAFL clubs have stood up to the big boys and even as late as this week have told the AFL clubs they can keep their players next year. Meth Coast and Freo are wanting to keep their players out of WAFL for the first 6 weeks of the season. IMO the AFL needs to have a reserves competition, they have the money to pay for it and those of us old enough to remember how good it used to to see reserves doing well knowing they would step up in the next couple of years to strengthen the league side http://au.news.yahoo.com/thewest/a/-/breaking/14091049/keep-your-afl-leftovers/ Whilst doing this the fat controller needs to realise its the fans and grassroot people who make this game and they need to pour plenty of funds into country, local, VFL, SANFL & WAFL. Another idea I would like to see come in to stregthen grassroots footy is the increasing of the draft age to 20 years or 50 to 75 games at VFL/WAFL/SANFL. To many unproven kids are getting drafted on what they may be and we also hear the argument of footballers getting injured career ending and having nothing to fall back on. Get them to play 3/4 years at local level whilst completing apprenticeships, finishing uni and/or other courses to give them something to fall back on. We may also see boys coming into AFL with an appreciation of how hard life is for the ordinary worker and when they are given the chance at AFL level they realise it'something they don't wish to give up easy! Also sees boys coming in ready and allows for late developers who weren't stars at schoolboy level.

  28. It's not that he's committed and passion that annoys me, it's the completely absurd, over the top things he said - see the posts by UTAH and Chook above. "I will have a war chest and will declare war on the world"? FFS. I think he's a little unhinged.

  29. He is painted into a corner and is lashing out. They either fork out 800K on Cloke, or lose one of their key mids. Isn't it great !!!

  40. There is a big lesson for us here. Carlton tried to trade into a flag (along with a bit of tanking) with Judd and to a lesser extent Brock. In doing so they let draft picks and some good young players go. It has meant that they don't have enough quality when they get a couple of injuries, they don't have the young players pushing through to fill places as a team like Collingwood do. Football is about team, Judd alone won't win Carlton a flag and Ablett won't win GWS one. Invest in the draft and development and we will build our team, try for the quick fix and we will come unstuck.

  41. There is no evidence whatsoever that tanking has adversely affected Carlton or Melbourne. There's so many millions of other variables that affect how teams play that it's ridiculous to blame it on just one. The truth is that we will never know the impact that tanking had on either club because there is no way of measuring it. The best we can do is guess, which is equal to just making stuff up.

  42. This is starting to sound like a MasterCard ad. MFC season tickets - $400 Myki card to cover transport to and from all games - $60 Finishing higher than Carlton on the ladder - priceless

  43. Before anyone gets too carried away, we still have 10 games left and a couple of the clubs ahead of us are looking decidedly shaky. Picks 3 and 4 could well turn into picks 5 and 6. My feeling is we will be forced to part with our first pick to get Jack Viney and it will be a considered a good get in future years. Pick 6 should still get us a quality midfielder but not necessarily the most explosive player in the draft. However, we should have learnt by now that it's not only important that we get players with natural talent but it's how we develop that talent that counts.

  44. He's posturing and he's being obnoxious but it's all show for the toothless army of Magpie supporters. He gets away with this because it's Collingwood, they're powerful on the field and have heavy financial clout. Another club president might even get a "please explain" letter from Vlad but Eddie knows he can get away with it so he does as he pleases. I wish we were in a position to do that.

  45. I always think this too. But at the end of the day, you can't draft a bloke nobody had seen before and wasn't playing at a recognised level, just because some kid's mum says he is a good player. He is playing some seriously good football this year, and is a walk up start for the AA team unless they pick the same old incumbents they always pick, and make the young players put 2 or 3 good years together.

  46. It's nearly all supporters from all clubs, BH. Apart from a select few, we all have a bit of hypocrisy in us! All part of the passion. Take the Carlton bashing that's going on. Now that they're falling away, the 'tanking' finger gets pointed at them. Yet , when they've been winning and doing well , hardly a word about tanking. It's almost like if you get away with it, it's somehow ok. I'm talking about the football world, not necessarily on this site. Other teams have tanked and won premierships (Pies and Hawks) and not a word of protest! If you tank and fail, you cop it - more hypocrisy.

  47. Melbourne supporters are funny, They'd carry on just like Eddie if another club was in to our best player. And if he were our president they'd love his commitment and passion. Yet they ridicule him for doing exactly what his supporters no doubt want him to do. He's been a fantastic president for that club.
