Mods can delete this if they wish, but I'll post a story about little Tom. That celebrity fatty show filmed a segment at GWS training, and Tommy was supposed to run at/through Dipper after a Dipper challenge, I'm told Tom "squibbed it", and Dipper proceeded to take the urine (in a jocular way) calling Tom a [censored] and such. Tom completely cracked the shizzles and stormed off. He had to be apologized for. I'm told sadly that won't go to air. I wouldn't run through Dipper either, at any weight, but what a joyless little boy Tommy is. Probably had flashbacks of bouncing off Phil in the back yard whenst trying to grab a sausage.8 points

I love the payout on Tom. Makes me laugh. I'm not going to "get over it", nor do I want to. I'm going to nurture my bitter feelings toward our former player for at least his footy carreer. I'd advise if you are "over it" you'd best stay clear of threads like this one...7 points

It's doubtful words could express the gratitude I, and I assume most of us, feel towards Sir Jim for what he's done for this Club. All the best Jimma, just get better.5 points

I had my first pre-season soccer training session last night. At the soccer club I was widely ridiculed at the start of last year for saying I would rather lose Tom Scully to GW$ than Jack Watts. Since then my steadfast defense of Jack Watts as a future superstar has become something of a running joke at the club. The boys love nothing better than winding me up about Jack. Anyway, one of the boys at the club was involved in running the Cadbury super team promotion in blacktown last week, where 20 AFL stars ran a clinic for youngsters. Jack Watts was up there, as was Tom Scully. My mate is an avid North Melbourne fan and said he went there expecting Jack Watts to be a tool, but said Jack was an absolute ripping bloke and readily interacted with all the staff organizing the event. Tom on the other hand was aloof and barely spoke to any of the staff and came across as an arrogant nob, kept to himself and didnt really even interact much with the other players up there.5 points

Exactly, this is sport and it's based on emotion - there's no need to let logic and reason interfere.4 points

Thankyou Jimmy, You step down with your head held High, and Dignity shining. For all you have done i and others shall be eternally grateful. The MFC will get stronger because of you. The vision & energy you rejuvenated along with a board who agreed to get dirty and help. You are the Number one Demon going forward Jimmy who will inspire this club to both greatness and dominance again. 13.14.15.16...... Rest up Big Fella & enjoy each day. We will all look forward to seeing you in the Cheer Squad again. The MFC is one hell of a big family...which you will always be so much a part of...The Melbourne Demons Love you Jim Stynes. None of us would have blamed Jim if he stepped down as soon as he was diagnosed, however, he soldiered on and never gave up on us and rebuilt this club when it was at it's knees. The Melbourne Football Club, and all of it's supporters are FOREVER indebted to him, and long after he passes (in hopefully many decades time), he will be remembered as the most influential person in the history of this club. He has done more for this club, than anyone ever has... and all the while, he has been battling his own problems. Words can't really describe this person... he is simply phenomenal. That's all I can really say. Thanks and keep fighting mate!3 points

It's no mystery. The frontrunners for the captaincy according to Caroline Wilson are standouts for the leadership in a large group of mostly immature footballers. Voldemort might have been an early contender but stories of his aloofness while at Melbourne and his public performance during those "dark cloud" days hardly indicate the qualities of credibility and integrity one expects of a leader. The only attribute he has that might commend him for the position is a modicum of ability and an abundance of coin for the toss at the start of each game.3 points

Spot on Paul...Why should i forget significant incidents to do with the MFC?? I shall remember all his career and move forward at the same time. Lies are lies, $6 million is a lot to pay someone who cannot be trusted....so let's all watch this one.2 points

Slainte Jimma, May the road rise up to meet your feet; May the wind be always gentle at your back and the sun shine warm upon your face. May the welcome rains fall softly upon your fields And, until we meet again, may God hold you in the palm of his hand.2 points

What I don't understand is, why are those whio are sick and 'over it" of these T$ discussions still keep punishing themselves by constantly viewing and then posting comments? If they are true to their words then they should not be be seen or heard on this topic.2 points

IF we are unable to get a jumper sponsor by NAB cup, we should slap the Reach Foundation Logo on the front of the jumper, as a token of appreciation for all that Jim has given to the club. A way to say thanks. Then they could sell the jumpers and give the money back to Reach.2 points

Well, I'll be battered on both sides! Throughout the summer the media have been suggesting that GWS would make the AFL's highest paid infant at the very least a co-captain. Suddenly, he's out of favour and others will get the gong - GIANTS SET TO REJECT VOLDEMORT I wonder why?1 point

Nice speech from Cameron - he deserves more credit than what he's given. Also thanked Jim and acknowledged we need to take some important steps forward after a disappointing year on the field. Our integrity was questioned and we took the opportunity to rebuild the football department with a new coach and others who we have attracted. The playing group has significant potential and we have great determination as demonstrated by our president. We've ridden a few bumps and that's part of life in our competition. We wanted to be the first club to appoint our coach and appoint a team around him - Neil Craig and the other new appointments to give our players the best chance to build great careers and our team to be judged by its results.1 point

President forever, even if it's just an honourary position. Jim, you're a star. And you saved our club. Anything more is purely words, and words don't help - the ability to relax and move away from the club, to be with your kids and Sam and to fight this thing are far, far more important than some football club (despite what many of us think!) Get better mate. And I'm sure if you do the board will welcome you back with open arms if you so desire.1 point

As many have written, without Jim's strength, beleif and determination, we wouldn't be supporting the Melbourne Football Club as we know it. And it's becuase of these qualities that has ensured he celebrated another festive season with his family, and I hope there are many more. While Jim was instrumental in ensuring the survival of this Club, he formed a quality group of indians of which I'm sure our next chief will continue on from where Jimmy left. A lot of football clubs of all levels still have the "Most Courageous Award", surely we will have the Jim Stynes Award for such a title at the Club. It's an award EVERY player should strive to have their name engraved on. I know there is the Jim Stynes medal, but Jimmy is the Melbourne Football Club, and always will be.1 point

That's not negative really, considering it's Collingwood and Hawks That's not being negative as we have pies and hawks at Etihad. I'll be the first of many to declare I couldn't give a shite about NAB cup anyway1 point

What a great man, because of Jim we can still head to the MCG every week and watch the Dees. Massive thanks!1 point

Nice story. I never saw Tom "squib" it but I guess that satisfies everyones appetite to deride the little treacherous germ at every opportunity. Let it go FFS, he's forgotten about us, some of you are carrying on like jaded ex lovers.1 point

The "Jack Viney" thread is a good example of how it might work. Old seeing you're going to be single handedly responsible for doubling the work load of the mods I think you should become one!1 point

But unlike the other ex-Demon (that hurt), I will enjoy watching James get some of the footy.1 point

This draft is rated the best since 2001 by those that follow it closely. For me it's a no brainer. We need to activate both. We're not in a position to stockpile quality picks. We need real talent and we need to develop it as quickly as we can.1 point

I had a look at Talking Carlton which has a dedicated board for players and it seems to run reasonably well, albeit with the usual criticism of players and occasional bagging. I'm happy to give the idea a try and will check with Andy (Demonland) to see if he can set it up on a trial basis. Melbourne past and present players only with the usual rules applying. Of course, if things get out of hand, we'll have to press the Moron button on offenders and abandon the project.1 point

Hate and despise it more than anything else in the game except $cully. I want our list of available players to either be playing seniors or reserves - not 30 minutes of one game after which half the time they're dropped for failing to make adequate impact in the middle of the match. These are highly paid professionals and I couldn't give a continental what wonky, rigged stats the league bring out about injuries I want to see them play, not wander up and down the sidelines in a vest and ride exercise bikes. If they want to stamp their legacy on the game and change things for the sake of it (and my god do they enjoy doing that) then I'd rather it be three on the bench with no sub. At least then you know the players who have been named will get a fair run at it. Worst justification for mine is how it's great for teams who have early injuries. Tough luck if you have an injury! It's a game of variables with a rigged draw and a ball that is designed to go any which way at any given time. Especially with four on the bench if you're a good team you won't be put away by losing one guy, and a bit of luck here and there for rubbish teams makes the game more interesting. No chance for a change while rotten politicians like Demetriou are in charge though.1 point

I deleted my vote because the Option that suits my thinking wasn't included. The Sub rule is a step in the right direction but I think it's not Far enough. For me, 2 interchange with a further 2 emergencies, is the way to go.1 point

Good question - right now I reckon GC and Brisbane will win 5 games or more, I'm not confident about Port though - they only get GWS, GC and Brisbane once and GWS and GC are away games. Will be interesting to see if there's any tanking.1 point

I posted this last week, Moloney was to top heavy last year and he looks like a to me that he has addressed this. There is a big difference between muscle mass and strength. Just because you have big arms doesn't mean you are strong. It is all about power to weight ratio, some blokes cant put on weight but it doesn't mean they are not getting stronger.1 point

The only problem is Super 15 isn't equal. The Brumbies are a small market team that will go to a small market (NZ) for a third of the season, an osbcure market (South Africa) another third, and only get the odd game in the big markets. I don't think a Super 15 sponsorship is all that effective at exposing businesses TBH.1 point

I did a bit of net surfing today and I reckon there is something in the story about the rugby sponsorship deal that stopped all of a sudden. The company in question is Huawei. The largest privately owned firm in china. Massive communications company. According to a story in the Australian late last year. The Brumbies had a 4 year 4 million dollar ready to go. It was so far down the track jersey designs were being looked at. In nov 2011 the Brumbies received confirmation that the deal was done and it would represent Huaweis entry into the market. The deal was pulled the week before. Christmas due to " unforeseen circumstances" The article also states the Brumbies were one of several shot listed candidates. Surely we are one of them. . So I'm confident that all we are waiting on is the finer details . I'm assuming cams trip to china showed how much more exposure afl would give them rather than nrl and thst could have been a factor in the deal falling for the brumbies As I said its all assumption at this stage on my end. Nothing more.1 point

Folks I hope nobody minds but this thread has degenerated into a whinge session on a player that transcends its original intention and has become repetitious and boring. I think everyone gets the message that some people have decided, fairly or unfairly (unfairly IMO) that we now have a new whipping boy despite the first NAB CUp game being almost a month away. I believe there's another training session tomorrow but for the time being, I'm applying the Morton button on this subject and closing the thread.1 point
