Yep - that's right, let's think outside the square. One of only a handful that has any trade value, straight swap with West Coke for Daniel Kerr or a top 15 pick. It will rejuvenate the careers of both players. To me, Davey has lost his explosive speed and he's reticent to really go hard ever since that horrific hammy tear against the Dogs a couple of years ago. This year has been ordinary, as was 2007.

Bundle up his career highlights on a cd rom and distribute to all clubs now.

Kerr would never come to Melbourne. Davey needs to return to the forward pocket where he has been so damaging in the past. I don't know if he should be traded.

Kerr's a superstar. Will fetch Judd's price.

Davey would fetch a mid to late second rounder. Davey's type of style is everywhere in the AFL.

Is a mid to late 2nd rounder worth Davey, I would say No.

A trade to essendon would probably only be daveys request to be with his brother.

I like Leroy Jetta a fair bit.

Probably just prefer to keep davey, sure he is out of form but he will get there.

If we were to trade Davey for a top 15 pick, there is roughly a 90% fail rate, according to draft 2000, 2001 and 2002. Draft picks are overrated unless in the top 5.

2000 draft

10 Jordan McMahon

11 Trent Sporn

12 Shaun Burgoyne

13 Ashley McGrath

14 Daniel Harris

15 Simon Wiggins

2001

10 Sam Power

11 Richard Cole

12 Brent Reilly

13 Nick Dal Santo

14 Ashley Watson

15 Barry Brooks

2002

10 Jason Laycock

11 Jason Winderlich

12 Jay Schulz

13 Byron Schammer

14 Daniel Bell

15 Nicholas Smith

oh that is outside the square alright... Not sure it will fly. We all love to see players "bulk up" but that seems to have happered old flash. He looks like he has lost his x factor which was his explosive, run down players from behind pace. Loose the muscle gain the pace back. Come on Bohdan sort it!

I can't understand why they don't play him in the forward fifty. His impact has been limited while playing on the ball as he does'nt have the stamina.

Why don't we think outside the square.

Richmond's forward line was predictable and one-dimensional. So they moved Richo out of the forward line and told him to follow the ball. Couple that with a bit of fire and spirit from the charges and they are now being competitive (the Richmond Hawthorn match last Sunday was fantastic).

THINK OUTSIDE THE SQUARE:

HF Sylvia Bate Davey

FF Maric Green Wonaemirri

Why do we need tall blokes? Because we think we do, becasue its always been done. Bate and Green are great contested marks with the proper delivery. Forget Newton, Davey and Robertson. they are now a pipe dream. With Maric, Davey and Wonemarri circling like nurse sharks they could reek havoc.

What harm could it bring?

you need tall blokes in the forward line. Green and Bate are not bad contested marks against people roughly their size. Good luck having a forward line like that against fremantle and hoping Green and Bate can outmark sandilands who would drop down to defence.

I like that forward line MFC4LIFE. Richmond belted Freo with a short fast team. Big blokes are generally slow and if you are 4-5 meters in front of them coz they cannot keep up, there will be no contested mark because you are too quick for them right?

I've always felt Davey was seriously overrated by our own fans and the broader football public. He has serious deficiencies with his marking, and his goals per game average is nothing to write home about, but his importance to the side is greater than that. If he's used in the forwardline, where its painfully obvious he belongs, his speed is a vital part of the very forwardline Bailey is trying to create. Our forwards need to be chasing their opponents, and for years Davey has been left with the task of singlehandedly trying to round up three or four opponents his teammates couldn't be bothered chasing. Davey will be an important part of Bailey's future side.

Wasn't Nathan Jones pick 12? Rioli went to the Hawks last year at around the same pick.

Noone under the age of 24 who has talent will be traded.

I mean seriously, what is the point. if they are young and have talent, then we want them on our list! what's the point in trading davey for pick 15, so we can get a guy only 4 years younger who might turn out to be a nothing.

If people are clever, they should be advocating to trade guyz like Bruce, Robbo and any other 28+ yrs old guy we have.

good move by us trading Johnstone. he's getting his standard 16 possies and a goal every game as brissy and being servicable. he's 28 and by 2 years time he'll be about to retire, while Grimes will be in our starting midfield.

Top 5 or top 10?

2000 was just about the worst draft ever but even then Harris, McGrath and McMahon are more than useful players.

Reckon you've stooged Brent Reilly as well from 01.

2002 was pretty weak as well from memory but Winderlich, when fit, is up there with Davey as Essendon's most important player and Jay Schulz could easily replace Richo if he was a smidgen more consistent (though at this stage I'd still say he's a bit of a flop)

It sickens me that people would like to trade Davey and Green, but insist on keeping Cameron Bruce

The average IQ of those people would be astoundingly low

Lets not throw the baby out with the bath water. Davey is suffering the same as the rest of our better players, and it is a disease that can cripple a team of any sorts, and it is called CONFIDENCE..

It's a whole new world at the MFC right now, i for one am frustrated and sad, but always remain half positive, my glass is always half full,

I think Bob Dylan said it best when he said "The times, they are a changing"

Lets hang in there everyone. Davey is a key assest to the team and the club, and like the Club, he will bounce back!

Davey wouldnt have enough value in the market to make it worth while. We have some players who I think need a change of scenery.

Miller, C.Johnson, Bell, Robertson, Newton, Wheatley and Jamar all may perform at a higher level elsewhere but none would see us get anything of value in return. Its hard trading players when our team is performing at such a low level. My hope is that Bailey can turn them around a bit.

Bruce? Robbo? any other 28 year olds we have? Dutchy? Who'd take them? Balwyn Combined so that they can join 426? Their value is zilch, nought, nada, zip etc..

To get value, you've got to trade value. The TJ trade was a beauty - let's go again whilst Davey is worth something.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

A few new faces joined our veteran Demonland Trackwatchers on a beautiful morning out at Gosch's Paddock for another Preseason Training Session. BLWNBA'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I arrived at around 1015 and the squad was already out on the track. The rehab group consisted of XL, McAdam, Melksham, Spargo and Sestan. Lever was also on restricted duties and appeared to be in runners.  The main group was doing end-to-end transition work in a simulated match situation. Ball mov

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
