would like to see both bate and miller across half forward - very hard to match up on...

miller could be the long lead and bate closer to or inside 50....

as for warnock, just an honest trier but does not add any long term solutions to key position players.. is depth if that!!

i would like to see buckley back in the team... he got hammered last time but his run is what we lack out of defence - that and the lack of a presenting forward...

robbo must play deep - not big enough or fit enough to compete across the half forward line!!

as long as dunn is not asked to play in defence - he appeared to be lost at times last week...

also, the stats in todays little rag re the inside 50's - that makes very depressing reading!!

Depressing but enlightening at the same time.

Our backmen need to be given the benefit of the doubt until we get our opponents' Inside 50s down from 62. BTW brisbane had 76 last week against us.

Good team but why would you drop Jamar who played well in the seniors for Meesen who did nothing in the reserves?

Warnock is an honest player and does some nice things - I agree keep him in the team

Warnock deserves another run.

Both Bartram and Bell are badly out of form. A comparison so far this season:

Bell: 6 games, 81.63% efficiency of ball use, 16 tackles, 23 1%ers, 17 clangers, 8 frees given away.

Bartram: 5 games, 73.91% efficiency of ball use, 11 tackles, 14 1%ers, 20 clangers, 9 frees given away.

Bell is in fact one of our most efficient users of the ball - it's just that when he messes up, he seems to mess up critically! I'm in favour of Bell to the midfield where his errors won't be so costly, but back to Sandy first.

Bartram, on the other hand, just messes up. Needs to work on his disposal skills, and a long spell in Sandy.

May as well see what we have before PJ gets back.

Jamar wasn't so outstanding that we shouldn't check Meesen out and he didn't really do nothing.

Spencer did nothing, Meesen did a little bit. Just think, as it is obvious PJ is the best choice, before he comes back we should try Meesen.

Bartram is a tagger.

Putting Bell in the midfield would see much more disastrous mistakes than in defence. You think he looks lost now, when he has one direction to go, imagine when he has to think about even more people than his man!

I laugh at people thinking there's going to be 6-8 changes every week. The team has to have some solidity. Even when coaches flag big changes, and say the kid gloves are coming off, even if they mean it they rarely drop more than 4 players...

Jamar probably played one of his better games for the club. 21 hitouts (most on the ground) but more impressively as another poster pointed out he backed up his ruckwork with clearances and good tackling.

I understand you want to see Meesen before the now automatic selection PJ comes back in but I still think Meesen should earn his spot as Jamar has with solid preseason and Sandy form.

IMO Spencer showed more on the weekend than Meesen. Maybe that was because I expected a lot more from Meesen.

Theres something seriously wrong if MAric isnt selected this week.

The teams should be out soon.

Lets see if Baileys round 6 deadline was all talk. Its his first big test.

I didn't say Bell looks lost and, to be clear, I don't think he looks lost. I said his mistakes are critical - because they give away goals. FWIW, I don't think Bell would be lost in the midfield at all, I think he'd come into his own after some time - but I also agree that DB won't be experimenting in any ongoing fashion during the home and away.

Perhaps you'll agree that Bartram is no more a 'tagger' than Dunn is - which is to say, both have been used as periodic taggers throughout the season. But while Dunn has also spent time across the half-forward flank, Bartram has been used on the rebound out of defence - almost as much as Bell (Bell 17 r50s, Bartram 13 - by contrast, the other two 'taggers', McDonald and Dunn, have 10 and 6 r50s).

To be honest, I don't care where Bell or Bartram play, so long as they play well.

They've both played consistently poor football this season. Bell has been better than Bartram, but has nonetheless regressed from last year. I wouldn't be sorry to see either or both of them dropped. Warnock looked good in defence last week, and while I've only seen Buckley run fast and butcher his kicks, I would not mind seeing him used more extensively on the rebound out of defence in a few more games. He's faster than Bartram but AFAIK can't tag - and neither seem to be able to kick.

Who are we going to kick it to in the FWD line? Jamar? This is terrible news, at least bring in Newton or a Holland. aahhhh. Dropping Dunn willl get us nowhere.

Honestly who can we kick to besides Robertson (who doesn't keep his feet most of the time anyway)? Miller plays up the ground. So we'll have four tall backs playing in Carroll, Rivers, Frawley and Warnock, WTF?

IT HAPPENED

In: Whelan, Bate, Garland, Buckley

Out: Dunn

Much ado about nothing

I don't really think that the big changes were ever going to be about who came in, but who is going to be left out. If these are the ins, but the outs include Bruce and Robertson, then Bailey and Connolly's big review will have amounted to something, at least.

Here's the bench.

Interchange from: M.Bate, D.Bell, S.Buckley, C.Garland, M.Jamar, B.Moloney, M.Warnock

Bate, Jamar and Moloney must be certainties.

Damn, want to see Valsa and Maric running around out there this week.

You'd think Warnock would get another game based on Bails history this season. I think only one player (I'll stand corrected) has been dropped after just one game, Yze. Which would lead me to believe Ding Dong (D Bell) will be playing for sandy this weekend.

Jeez u would of thought Newton would of been right to go this week?

It seems like even if you get suspended at VFL level and your young its tough to crack this 0-6 team lol

I like Warnock last week but till he is absolutely ready to take over Carrolls job then VFL development is the idea.

I want to see Maric too but the kid is still very young and he has not been kicking to many goals in recent weeks for sandy.

I just hope bails gives buckley another go as we really need his dash against these freo kids like palmer and ibbotson or its gonna be another long game.

It won't hurt Belly to have a spell at Sandy.

The red Pav v the real Pav. C'mon Bater.

At the post match last week, Bailey said the only positive to come out of the match was the form of Jamar... Like he really needed to italic bold and underline how crap we are going!

Warnock most definitely deserves another game. Played probably his best match on Sunday.

Whelan will obviously come in after serving his suspension, Valenti may get promoted and if Bate is fit we have to make room for him.

As for omissions, throw a dart, whoever you hit is out with 'suspected eye injury following tragic dart-throwing incident'.

I agree 100%, and love the dart idea too.

I was as surprised as anyone to see Warnock saddle up for the Brisbane game, and then happily surprised to see him put in a solid game.

A few people seem to have missed the fact that Bate has been carefully managed back from injury (hamstring, right?). I dunno about anyone else but I'm happy to see that. It's always bugged me when players get thrown back into the top level before they're 100%. Surely he's ready now though, after two weeks working back through Sandy.

Having Whelan back in will help.

Omissions are harder.

I think Bartram does need a Sandy run, though I'm sure he'll be back soon enough.

Morton may well be getting fatigued - I'd be comfortable with giving him a week or two at Sandy, just to help him understand that he really is at an elite level already.

I'm leaning towards dropping Robertson. I've only seen 'moments' where he's kept his feet and chased and so on. It's been just enough to make me pause and think he might be about to turn things around. But then it's the same deal again the next week.

Miller has to have an impact. Now. I'm giving him this game against Freo and if he still hasn't shown up properly then he's dropped and will be a 'reserve' for the rest of the year or until he can really shape up his form.

Whelan for Bartram, Bate for Robertson and perhaps Buckley for Morton.

anyone else interested by the fact jones is named on a half forward flank, Miller is at full forward and bruce is on ball? while i know positions don't really count at this stage, why switch it up for no reason?

Bailey must have been impressed by Jones ability to kick goals

Garland at FF maybe? He did a few nice things as a forward during the pre season, and his recent form with the Zebs has apparently been ok.

Newton doesn't deserve a game until he has put in a few decent efforts with Sandy.

GAMEDAY: Rd 10 vs West Coast

It's Game Day and the Demons have returned to the site of their drought breaking Premiership to take on the West Coast Eagles in what could very well be a danger game for Narrm at Optus Stadium. A win and a percentage boost will keep the Dees in top four contention whilst a loss will cast doubt on the Dees flag credentials and bring them back to the pack fighting for a spot in the 8 as we fast approach the halfway point of the season.

    WARNING by William from Waalitj

As a long term resident of Waalitj Marawar, I am moved to warn my fellow Narrm fans that a  danger game awaits. The locals are no longer the easybeats who stumbled, fumbled and bumbled their way to the good fortune of gathering the number one draft pick and a generational player in Harley Reid last year. They are definitely better than they were then.   Young Harley has already proven his worth with some stellar performances for a first year kid playing among men. He’s taken hangers, k

OVER YET? by KC from Casey

The Friday evening rush hour clash of two of the VFL’s 2024 minnows, Carlton and the Casey Demons was excruciatingly painful to watch, even if it was for the most part a close encounter. I suppose that since the game had to produce a result (a tie would have done the game some justice), the four points that went to Casey with the win, were fully justified because they went to the best team. In that respect, my opinion is based on the fact that the Blues were a lopsided combination that had

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak
