I mean, really, how hard is it to draft a superstar? Not even. Draft a player capable of being one.

If he keeps this up. Last night was just ridiculous.

Forwards dont get brownlows thesedays. Specially since opposition teams will dbl team him the rest of the year. Roughhead will be loving it.

But yea hes a freak... and he barracked for the Red & Blue

Lance Franklin and the entire hawks side makes it look plainly obvious CAC and Danners were completely useless.

Posted

Yeah I agree occo. CAC was a real idiot for not drafting Franklin.

We'll ignore the minor detail that he was gone before we even had our first pick. But gee what an idiot!

Posted

Name superstars which we could actually have drafted with our picks then... Think you will find there isn't much we could have done.

Most people talk about Judd, Ablett, Franklin being the three best in the comp. We could not have drafted any of them.

Scapegoating CAC for not getting Franklin is pathetic.

Maybe Axis can post here. He thinks Buddy is overrated.

I think he is too.

Does some absolutely freakish things but also gets a lot of cheap goals sitting out the back of the pack and needs to learn to kick for goal

This was a bit in-house Boi and about a year ago, but thanks for sharing.

The guy is 21 and on his way to kicking over 1,000 goals, but there will always be heroes finding fault. Finding fault, when it comes to footy, is pretty easy to do.

Ha, I saw that you'd posted in this thread H and was almost 100% sure that I knew what you had said!! :D

I don't like Buddy, but he is freakishly talented. The difference now is that he can actually mark the ball.

True, but as you're great at defending young and inexperienced talent such as the Garlands of this world, perhaps you should use such wise judgment on other young players representing other stables. Especially when their talent is prodigious ;)

Won't make a difference. He is too quick on the lead and gets great delivery. You can have 5 blokes chasing him and he'd skill kick goals.

Richmond must be happy they went for Tambling and not Buddy when they were short of KPPs!

I love reminding my Richmond supporting brother about that! Best part about it is that Richmond had two bites at Franklin and still missed, taking Deledio (admittedly he was always going to go #1) and Tambling instead. Great stuff.

I don't remember much about this draft (other than the names of the players) - was Deledio a 'certainty' to go no.1 like Kreuzer was? If not, was Franklin's name mentioned?

We always have good picks in weak drafts.

I think there's actually some inequity there...

You're absolutely right. SOMEHOW we always get the cop-out years when it comes to drafting.

Look at Collingwood. They have the profile to say to the quieter clubs that someone like Tarrant is a star worth a first round pick. Then they end up offloading trash, and ending up with 2 selections in the second superdraft.

If it was US trying to offload Tarrant we would have gotten a late second rounder.

The rich get richer.

And the richer will probably get Rich this year too.... :D

The hawks were nervous about drafting him too.

http://www.realfooty.com.au/news/news/just...ge#contentSwap2

- Buddy struggled badly in more talented company, amid the confines of team structure and plan, and against more physical opposition. As one club official put it: "He spent the entire week ducking his head."

- Buckenara was not overly impressed with what he saw, either. When he went and took a look through the tapes, he was not sure where Franklin would play — he seemed a flanker, not a genuine key position prospect. That was a reason the Hawks overlooked him with their first choice, too.

- In an interview with one club, he was asked what his biggest setback was, and he couldn't think of one. He interrupted another to take four or five phone calls, and get his social life organised.

- Operation "Keep Buddy's Feet On The Ground" is not what it was during his first two years at Hawthorn. Then, the teenager was virtually haperoned by a senior teammate each time he went out after dark.

- At the moment he's worked, but with all the information we had he was almost uncoachable, his self-esteem was so out of control. "His psych testing was off the page. He did whatever he wanted to do, and that's fi ne, but it was an enormous risk. When you've got a high pick, it's a big call. Those sort of personalities fail more often than they work.

If by some chance MFC drafted Buddy, do u reckon he would've fulfilled his talents. 2004 draftee, TJ as a senior player.

Buddy is still a party animal. It's the reason he started at Box Hill last year.

Tambling has shown signs. He's a bit like Wells in that he'll have a couple of good games and you think "there we go" then he just disappears for a month or so

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
