He has really clean hands, moves really well, even in a bit of traffic, and can take a grab above his head. But it's his right boot that distinguishes him from the rest. It is a dead set laser beam. He can kick quite well on his left as well, but his right boot is sublime.

Stoked with this. By all reports he is top 3 calibre.

I know I sound like an Essendon recruiting manager here, but some even had him picked as the best player in the draft. He is definitely top 2 in terms of playing ability.

OOOH I am getting excited. Am happy with this choice -well done Dees!!!!!!!!!

4 – MELBOURNE – CALE MORTON

Claremont, WA, Tall midfielder/forward, January 18 1990, 191.5cm, 78.7kg

Melbourne won't believe its luck that a player some recruiting managers regard as the best in the draft will slip through to No.4. But that's the way the cards are falling, with Richmond certain to take Trent Cotchin and West Coast likely to pounce on Chris Masten ahead of Morton. Under this scenario, Melbourne will gladly snap up Morton, the youngest brother of Mitch (Richmond) and Jarryd (Hawthorn). The only other player who is a chance for Melbourne at No.4 is East Fremantle's Rhys Palmer.

Bio: A genuine utility, capable of playing onball, off a flank or as a key position forward. Noted for his ability to read the play and strong work rate. He was exceptional for Western Australia during the 2007 NAB AFL U18 Championships, averaging 25 possessions and nine marks per game, earning All-Australian honours and the Larke Medal. Recorded a 15.1 beep test result at the 2007 NAB AFL Draft Camp. From Hale FC.

---------------

We may well have picked the best player from this draft, but what's best about this selection is that he fits our current needs PERFECTLY... Mclean and Jones (and Moloney when fit) as tough inside midfielders, Grimes, McDonald and Bartram as running midfielders both inside and outside and now we can add a classy tall elite runner with sublime skills to replace the loss of Johnstone.

Sensational! Had watched him the Vic Metro v WA U/18's game and was salivating at the prospect of this guy in a Demon's jumper. He really did stand out in that game. It looked more and more likely as the draft approached, but now that it's real, I am stoked. Go Dee's! :D

I wonder if this guy was in the back of CAC's Bailey's minds when Jonno got the march ? Looking forward to seeing this guy in action :) :) A bit of class and "solid thinker " . He ought to address a prob we've had ...some sillyuse of ball.. This guy is EFFECTIVE with his disposals.. My prediction is he'll be in the leadership group in not too many years !! Welcome Cale

Arise, Sir Cale!

But please get one of him in red and blue when it becomes available.

One additional bit of good news is that the Morton family is moving from WA to Victoria now that all three boys play for Victorian clubs.

I just hope that Cale has a longer career at the club than our last Larke Medallist who was Steven Armstrong although Arma did win a premiership medallion.

I posted elsewhere that I hope he doesn't get compared with Travis Johnstone and that he doesn't get the # 16. And let's not get wrapped up in this talk that he will one day become a KPP. Let him develop in his own good time. I think he can become something speeeeshul as Bruce McA is wont to say.

There were a number of Demonland Trackwatchers at Gosch's Paddock this morning to bring you their observations from Preseason Training. KEV MARTIN'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS They were going hard at each other. The sims were in two 15 minute blocks. The second block finished a few minutes early, they gathered and had another 7 minutes at it. I think they were asked to compete, as they would play against an opposition. There was plenty of niggle, between some of them. At the end o

Better late than never … and quite frankly, there’s very little to report other than that training took place at Casey Fields this morning, that Tracc was there nursing his rib injury and that some photographs are on the club’s social media including this one of Clarrie in Raging Bull stance that gives rise for confidence. The other news is that the club has a new train on player in 185cm Dandenong Stingrays midfielder Noah Hibbins-Hargreaves (love the hyphenated name which is just so fitti

Welcome back to Demonland for those like me who have been on vacation. I’m posting this with some trepidation because of a certain amount of uncertainty surrounding the return of preseason training in 2025 after a flurry of weddings including those of our coach, one of our superstar players and a former premiership champion player and bloke, not to mention the recent mysterious incident that occurred on the Mornington Peninsula.  I believe that the team reassembles this morning at Casey Fie

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to
