He was in great form the last month, but was still one of the players under the pump to keep his spot on the list...

if his shoulder is bad, or even a fractured collarbone, have we seen the last of the big fella? i hope not, but i've got a feeling that will be the case...

he will be on our list next season bc he is important depth.

he is the only player on our list who can take the guerilla forwards in the afl...

Come trade time we need to take a punt on another tall defender from another club like we did with holland.

What have we got to lose ? Sydney got Richards from the Dons and we need to pull off a trade similar.

If his shoulder is up to it and Holland is keen, given the logjam of ordinary footballers to come off our list surely a player who has shown he can pinch hit a both ends of the ground effectively and can take contested pack marks is worth another year. Unbelievable the write. I could name 10 to 12 players that should go before Holland.

I think Rhino called this one right. Dutchy is nowhere near the start of the queue for "DCM's "

All things being equal he ought to get another year's contract...and deservedly so.

i think it depends on the extent of the injury...it looked to me like he was broke the top part of his arm, but ive read dislocated shoulder...something was definitely bent there wasnt it?

I hope that we keep big Ben next season. He is greatly respected by his teammates and can play on the forward line and the backline. Go Dutchy!

Two out of Biz, Ferguson, Holland and Warnock will go, Biz is a dead certainty to go, Warnock is struggling at Sandy and Ferguson looked OK last night. Holland although good isn't getting any younger and a shoulder to a big man could be the end.

Sorry but if we have to keep players on our list for that reason, then we're stuffed!

I think the concern with Dutchy was they couldn't put the shoulder back in right away and he may have a fracture as well. I think your right deanox in that the extent of the inury will determine his spot on the list. In the harsh reality of modern footy can we really afford to keep a 30+ limited skills, immobile KPP that potentially can't do a preseason - even one as brave as Benny?

I can't see Ben Holland on our list next year. As good as he has been for us.

Comments like this need some sort of explanation........................................................

............................................................ otherwise they will just be considered DUMB.

I accept your point of view, I don't agree with it, but how about some reasons!!!!!

GO DEES - Onward and Upward

Is he in our best 22, yes in my opinion, so he should be on the list. His spirit is not too evident in some of our more decorated players.

It looked truly awful on TV.

They ran a whole series of distrubing slow-mo replays of him getting crunched and close-ups of the shoulder - I swear there was a 'straight edge' pressing against the outer skin, and they couldn't get the arm back in the socket.

Looked terrible and they had to get him off to hospital.

Which makes me think - with club doctors accompanying first Holland and then Bell to hospital, who did we have left?

What a nightmare injury run. What are we up to at the moment, twelve out?

I for one think Holland deserves another year, but if he decides to hang up the boots then there is always...

wait for it, you'll love this...

Ben Holland - strength and conditioning. (The guy obivously knows how to build his strength and work on it properly, and lets not forget it is 'Doctor Benny'.)

Shane Woewodin - fitness and preparation. (A midfield equivalent to Holland - whatever people think about his play I haven't heard anyone suggest he isn't a first-rate trainer)

Frankly, I think that's a genuinely good core to the fitness staff.

Now, I'm not on the 'Bohdan is the devil' bandwagon, but I don't think he's a good as we would want and can get.

Seeing Dutchy trudge off the field last night with a shocking injury was a very sad moment. As Rhino pointed out, I think whether or not we see Holland on Melbourne's list this season will depend on how his shoulder mends. Holland has rarely if at all failed Melbourne in his performances this year at either end of the ground, and provided his shoulder recovers, I'd like to see him back at the club next year. Given that the injury was more serious than a straight dislocation, the situation is a little more complicated.

It would be tragic if this is how Holland finishes his career.

I hope his shoulder heals well and he gets another year. I'd rather him than Ferguson or Bizzell.

At least he can play at both ends and take the one forward we can't match-up on, the gorilla!

Surely you couldn't blame Bohdan for ANY of our injuries last night? He is a well qualified man and it's just plain BAD LUCK our injuries run this season. He's as good as you can get.

Totally.

While I believe we need to look towards the Bate & McLean era for our next flag, we simply can't delist everyone.

If we're going to keep someone as more experienced fringe depth, it may as well be Holland - he gives us something we don't have, and has been in very good form. However, he'll be the wrong side of 30 and it won't be a tragey if he's no longer with us next year.

Posted

as there are only a certian number of delistings that can be performed at seasons end I would imagine they would be more likely to be medium sized and smaller players (Ward, Brown etc). as we lack depth in the big man dept

Posted

Dutchy will easily be back next year, plenty of recovery time from here till pre-season. We haven't seen the last of him!

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
